While I live in the county, not the city (which means city cops can't do anything about my fireworks) here in Shaw Heights, we are surrounded by the city. City hall is easy walking distance from my house. It would be nice to not have to worry about carrying, when I go up there to drop off my ballot in November.

Colorado has home rule laws, which might successfully be used to stymie some of these un-Constitutional "laws". Unfortunately, the Colorado Supreme Court has long been making rulings disconnected from either the Colorado or the US Constitutions.
I know federal law bans carrying in federal government buildings, but it would have to be a state-specific law to ban carrying in state/local government buildings.
I'm kind of surprised its Westminster that is doing this because its a pretty liberal suburb of Denver! I would have expected this in a Weld county city but good for Westminster!
So the city wants a law to enforce the second amendment? Isn't the second amendment supposed to dictate law in the first place? Shouldn't they not need a law to say don't violate the Constitution?
Our legislators (and the governor) here in Colorado are pretty stupid. The government is required to operate by the constitution (s) and all elected and appointed personnel are required to take an oath of office, to “protect and defend the constitution”. Then they pass a law denying our rights to keep and bear arms, in government buildings? They are really stupid.
Improves security for whom? Certainly not the well-being of the public why the only reason the crown would ever dictate what guns and where they could be carried by the people who have those items to uphold their freedoms from overstep of the crown would be to ensure the safety of the members of the crowns inner circle
Simple but not total local revocation is to not let the City Police enforce State or Federal Laws If the State or Federal Governments wish to enforce their laws they need to use their own LEO to do it So, it would make the State have to waste resources to police the City to enforce State Laws Bonus as Westminster has a Home Rule Charter
Sad truth is that unless you have a mountain of cash or have the backing of some gun rights group, your rights can be stomped on at anytime and it will be aloud to stand, no matter how wrong. ‘Parking lots” so how do they think you can carry in public if you aren’t allowed to secure you firearm in your vehicle in the parking lot. A lot of these public buildings don’t offer easy or handicap accessible street parking within any reasonable distance. Frankly if you limit carrying in your “government building” then you should be required to do 2 things, 1. Have a secure location to check firearms, 2. Guarantee 100% safety and security on site under say a 1 billion dollar policy for injury or death. As over 90% of mass shootings occur in “gun free zones” the liability should be embraced and HIGH on any zone declaring or ordering it to be gun free. That would be the case anyway if it was truly about “Safety” and not just about CONTROL.
Am I reading that state law correctly in that it says you can't carry into a building where a public meeting is being held? Could they just hold the meeting outside and the state law is moot? Might be a little cold in the winter but they could get a heated tent.
