    Wow. The house on the corner of Walker Street used to be let as holiday flats - my family had the ground floor one for a week during the summer of 1970, when I was aged six. Having gone out to the shop a few doors up at around 7.15 one morning, I decided to take the long way home - via the Gynn, Promenade and Talbot Road - thinking it would give the rest of the family time to get up... Needless to say I returned around nine and found them not only up - but on the point of calling the police to help look for me. I don't remember getting much of a row - they could see that I meant well, and I think they were just relieved.

    My friend and I are platonic gay friends, and we did Blackpool a lot in the 90's! I recall we stayed at The Trades Hotel, and there was a LOT of "Cummings" and goings between guests rooms! We used to love the Pleasure Beach, and does anybody remember Kelly's Cafeteria near North Pier? They used to stand the condiments in the ash trays, so presumably closed down by Environmental Health? 😂😂😂

    I moved away from Blackpool in 2016 and really regret the move. I last lived in the area of this video in 2010, on the corner of Yates St and Lord St, however, I did also live in three flats at the other end of Dickson Rd, in the Gynn/Warley Rd section. You could say Dickson Road is my home, but I could not get over how much it has changed in just the 11 years since I've been gone.

    hi i am a subscriber and really enjoy your videos as i have visited blackpool with my family every year for 30 years. I know this maybe a bit of a strange question but me and the family are coming to blackpool for a week tomorrow and staying at the cliffs, unfortunately they will not let us leave our luggage there. we cant checkin until 3pm due to the covid19. Do you know by any chance anywhere we could leave our luggage for the day at all?

    • @AWalkontheWildSideBlackpool
      @AWalkontheWildSideBlackpool  4 роки тому

      James Alexander That is a good question, however, I don’t know what you can do. I’m sure there must be somewhere that you could leave your luggage. I’m really surprised that a hotel like the Cliffs won’t allow you to leave your luggage there before checking in. That sounds a bit harsh.

    Dickson road was always known for being a bit run down and seedy but really it is the side streets which run off Dickson which are run down and dross, i used to work on Dickson road when Wisemans had their shop there and North railway station was still on the corner, that part was a nice little area then, i can even remember when the Police man in his white jacket and gloves used to direct traffic where Talbot road met at the junction of Dickson road.

    I used to live in a bedsit 92 Dickson Road my parents owned a bed & breakfast across the road 1997-2005. The local shop on the corner used to be called & owned by a Polish guy called Sam. Lulu's cabaret bar used to be called Liberty's & further down the road was a catering agency called Dutton's/Master-staff. The takeaway underneath was allegedly where 14 year old Charlene Downs was murdered, grinded up & used as tile grout. The police messed up big time & no one knows what happened to her or who was responsible. It left a terrible stain. There was never a dull moment on Dickson Road or North shore there was always something happening. When the sun is shining & the weather is hot Blackpool is the best place in England! I have some really good memories of living on Dickson Road thank you for reminding me of them.
    Barm cake is what the rest of England call a teacake. Never a chip or bacon butty but a chip or bacon barm is what you get in Blackpool!
