- It was a huge shock once people woke up to the news of GFriend disbandment, as previously it was reported that they were preparing for a comeback and had a planned schedule. Since their disbandment, people kept gathering information on why they were forced to disband. And since HYBE's and Min Hee-jin's feud, the real reason seems to have been revealed.

Source Music’s trademark application was denied as the word GFriend as it’s an English term used daily. As for MHJ and Hybe - my blame for the disbandment sits with Hybe and Source Music. They pushed Lesserfim to debut. GFriend are just another victim of this mess. It’s devastating to know the girls were blindsided by the announcement.
You're right about the dispute between MHJ and Hybe revealing potential reasons for Gfriend's disbandment. BSH probably didn't have faith in Gfriend to become a industry leading girl group like BlackPink. So, he would probably not have wanted to keep investing in them. Gfriend were probably offered a contract that was way below their worth and so they didn't resign or they weren't even offered a renewal at all. We know MHJ likes her idols young so Gfriend was out with her as well.

@@moonlight_orange That was likely to encourage MHJ. She was drove out from SM because they considered her style being overused. Fans were complaining every SM group had the same concept. SM didn't want her style implemented on their new girl group, Aespa. They wanted the AI concept. Context matters, everyone conveniently leaves some parts out.

MHJ probably contributed to the conditions that led to Gfriend's 'disbandment', but I think it was process of Le Sserafim's debut that was the deciding factor. I can't shake the feeling that Sinb was hinting at something in that shot in the Pull Up MV when she was facing down the statue of the 6-winged angel statue (Seraphim).
Well Source/Hybe lost to Sowon in Court over the trademark. Don't be surprised Gfriend comback under BPM or Bill Entertainment.
they didn't lose to her specifically, she wasn't even having a trial for it against hybe, curious where this info came from? the group got the trademark according to the new changed law or something like them, and it belongs to the 6 members, that for their english name, pretty sure source owns their korean name trademark since it was applied and approved years ago.
this seriously hurts me, when i was little, my mom would always play “Glass Bead” for me, i always asked what song it was but both the artist & song name was in korean, (once when my mom was cleaning she was js playing random songs so thats how glass bead came into my life) and glass bead was literally one of the first kpop songs i heard. It was one of my fav childhood songs. it would have made me so happy stanning gfriend…

That Weverse shop listing for only the light stick case is cold asf. Normal businesses would do whatever they can to recoup expenses, so they would leave their inventory open in an attempt to liquidate assets. What Source Music and Hybe did instead was equivalent to saying, "nothing much to see here... pack up your fandom and fuck off."
It seems the truth come out bacause another scandal. Gfriend disbandment was decided between they MHJ and Hybe. Instead have a succesfull active group they decided take the source staff and get ride of Gfriend. They can not handle success, they would keep the three groups.

I don't understand why so much media portrait Min as this powerful entity capable of GGs mass destruction, it's just so ridiculous and wrong why to put a problem that is in a company's fault (in this case) and the common practice of an industry. Watch what the SM is doing to EXO CBX or SM in general, what JYP did to GOT7, YG to GDragon or Woollim to Infinite or Cube to everyone there it is not the weirdo of Min she's meaningless in this industry. Ah and btw all ex members of GFriend are still active so go and check them they're still incredible and awesome.
what pisses me off how most of the girls were never properly promoted by the company individually to build a fandom of their own, although their huge potential, (sinb for example couldve had a decent sized chinese fandom, but even the existing stans of her went inactive by the time), which is good both for group longevity and their careers after gfriend, almost like source music made them dependable of the group and company throughout their career, so that they won't have anywhere to go, while hybe used the hell out of them to get bts stans used to the future changes and slowly killed their careers with making their promos, that for some odd reason were already terrible after they blow up, even worse. the members clearly didn't like the idea of acquisition, bc it was the company they built up with only disadvantages in the iindustry
also i need people to talk more about how viviz practically made the impossible possible with their latest success.

Ok, needed corrections to the AI voice pronunciations aside, if all of this concerning Min Hee-Jin’s involvement in causing GFREIND’s forced contract termination is true, all that does is add incompetence to the perjorative lexicon that already describes HYBE. The descriptors of HYBE already include deceitfully underhanded, treacherous, and greedy. If true, HYBE just let this loose canon run roughshod all over their groups and subsidiary labels unchecked, for three years!. This only makes HYBE look even worse as they only bothered to conduct an audit of MHJ’s nefarious activities once it started impacting their bottom line. Also, where the h*ll was Source Music’s CEO So Sung-Jin during all of this?? If MHJ was indeed stealing SouMu’s trainees and staff and left SouMu holding the bill, why did he just standby and let it happen? Could he really do nothing to stop this happening to his own copmany? Did he lose all of his power after HYBE’s aquisition of Source Music? These new leaks only leave even more unanswered questions which I’m sure I wouldn’t like. So Sung-Jin has not uttered a peep about the GFRIEND situation in three years, and his continued silence only makes him look worse.

Too many people in a certain fandom want to defend everything HYBE does because in their minds they can't separate their favorite group from the bad actions of a corporation and its leadership They push a misleading narrative that says MHJ arrived at SM, cherry picked the best talent, and then abandoned SM, leaving them destitute and forcing them to form Le Sserafim just to survive. (Note: I'm a fan of both LS and NJ). HYBE's own court filings show a different narrative, clearly laying out both the timeline and many of the facts: MHJ was charged to create a girl group under SM by BigHit (before HYBE became the name of the parent company). She looked at the SM trainees and only found Minji acceptable. MHJ then put together two separate global auditions under the SM brand to fill out the group. She found Hanni from the first one and Danielle and Haerin from the second. She later scouted Hyein online and had her audition. That made the five NJ members. Yes, they were technically all SM trainees at one point due to ADOR not existing yet, but 1) Minji was the only NJ trainee not directly brought to SM by MHJ herself; and 2) ADOR was later founded precisely because Bang disliked MHJ's chosen trainees and her concept for NewJeans. He disagreed with MHJ's vision so much that he went out and signed Sakura and Chaewon and then decided that the group he formed with them would now be the one to debut from SM in 2022. For NewJeans, Bang's decision created a risk that they wouldn't debut at all because 1) they would have to wait until 2023 or longer to debut under SM, and 2) Bang had already established a deep dislike of both the selection of members for NJ and their concept. It was only at this point in time (after Bang had signed Sakura and Chaewon and sidelined NJ ) that MHJ asked to create a separate label. Simply put, it was Bang, not MHJ, that stopped NJ from debuting under SM. And ADOR was created not because MHJ stole SM trainees and was being greedy, but because Bang had written NewJeans off. Again, there are many trying to push a timeline for all of this that tries to paint HYBE in a more positive light, but all the aforementioned facts are from HYBE's own court filings.
I'm sorry that can't be further from the truth 1) if BSH didn't believe in new jeans he wouldn't have created a whole separate label for MHJ and wasted 16 mil on them despite source clearly being against it 2) MHJ did cherry pick those members because those members were selected to be in the new sm girl group (except for hyein ) and sm themselves were against mhj taking those members 3) if BSH was really against he wouldn't have promoted them as bts younger sisters
@@freedomprice9173 The beautiful things abut facts is that they are available for anyone to see, and there's no need to speculate or ability to spin. You're not wrong when you say that Source didn't want NJ trainees to leave, but it was specifically So Sung-jin, SM CEO, who did not want them to leave. He saw the potential in NewJeans that Bang didn't see, but it wasn't So Sung-jin's choice and the fact remained that those trainees were at risk of never debuting because SM could not debut two girl groups in the same year and potentially even a year apart. That is why MHJ agitated for a separate label not connected to SM. An important fact that you seem to be unaware of is that Bang didn't create ADOR. He was chairman of HYBE, not CEO. Park Jimon is the person, who as CEO of HYBE, created ADOR at the request of MHJ, in part to deal with the internal tension between MHJ and Bang over debuting LSF instead of NJ in SM. We have no evidence of whether Bang was for or against ADOR, but it wasn't his call to make. You say "MHJ did cherry pick those members" and that's where the spin comes in because it incorrectly implies that she took existing SM trainees who were earmarked for another group besides hers and turned them into NewJeans. The truth is that the "new sm girl group " to which you refer was to be NewJeans and MHJ was specifically tasked with forming that group. Upon being given that task, she assessed the SM trainees available and picked only one: Minji. MHJ herself then launched the global auditions on behalf SM to find the rest, and she found three in the two sets of auditions as explained in my original post, and later found Hyein. NewJeans' membership was set and they were preparing to debut under SM when Bang decided that he didn't like the membership and direction. He recruited Sakura and Chaewon at that point and decided to create LSF around them, and push NJ to the side. Again, these are facts provided by HYBE; you can read them for yourself. SM CEO So Sung-jin either failed to stop this or couldn't do anything about it. As to your third point, I will point out again that Bang was not CEO of HYBE, but chairman. The CEO answers to the chairman for sure, but in regards to company performance overall, not day to day business decisions. Bang was also no longer CEO of BigHit at that time. Shin Young-jae was already CEO. So the decision to promote NJ's as BTS' little sister would have been made between MHJ, Shin Young-jae, Park Jimon, and the BTS members themselves. Maybe Bang advised, and I am sure he has considerable influence at all Hybe companies (except ADOR), but ultimately promoting NJ as a BTS's sister group would have been called made the aforementioned people, not Bang. Lastly, you show your bias by saying that 16 million was wasted on NewJeans. NewJeans, and thereby ADOR, have been one of the few profitable units of HYBE. NewJeans is not using BTS or HYBE money as is often said. HYBE has long recouped its original investment in ADOR and has made millions in profit since off of NewJeans. Again, everything that I have written and identified as facts, are facts put out directly by HYBE. You can look them up and confirm them for yourself. That's a better practice than relying on biased sources.

Can I chime in here? I don't consider myself a super hardcore kpop fan, as there's only a few groups that I like, but I've actually been following this dispute closely because I'm an attorney, and just interested in it from a legal perspective. I'm not a South Korean attorney, but I've done enough cases for South Korean clients to know that their court system was modeled off of the US system and operates nearly identically. In cases such as this (where injunctive relief was sought), there is always going to be something called a "Statement of Facts" included in the initial filing. When the opposing party responds to that filing, they will actually have to admit, deny, or claim insufficient knowledge to make a determination in regards to every fact asserted. The facts that neither party disputes then become "stipulated facts," as they are not disputed by either party. I've looked at multiple translations of the documents filed in this case, and the timeline of events is not at all in dispute between Hybe and Min Hee Jin. Indeed, many of the basic facts are not disputed. And your posts capture these undisputed facts quite well. But my mind is absolutely blown at how many people on one side of this issue keep running to a well of facts that are completely different from what both Hybe and Min Hee Jin actually agreed upon in court! But, then again, I do live in a country where my own government makes up facts in order to support a genocide, so whom am I to call out anyone?

I m already a middle aged happily married man when I discovered their MV. I am really impressed by their friendship, their hard work, tenacity and sisterhood. It's such a joy to watch their choreography. I stan all six but umji is always my favourite.

It has been clarify by many reports on how Hybe's subsidiaries work, during the acquisition they would receive an amount of money to cover current and new projects, comebacks and new groups (previously agreed). Source Music payed with Hybe's money, the new group (Nwj or Le sserafim) had nothing to do with GFriend disband.
Most if not all the original fandom know why the disband was and it's because it didn't adjust to two key points on Hybe's business model 1. All the groups have to be top groups in sales and charts in the US and EU. And 2. All groups have to appeal to American audiences and have American influence in music, concepts, style, and etc.
GFriend was a phenomenal group, one of the best choreographic and artistic groups of all generations, that was getting even better with the time but it was extremely appealing to Asian culture and it work everywhere because their talent but it wasn't the top group that the direction of Hybe demanded to SourceM so they ended the group without giving a notice to the members nor anyone else.
Money never was the problem but watching how Hybe treats their subsidiaries's employees I'm not surprise they left.
