needing to do a 924s Porsche belt and waterpump replacement, this channel knows to explain things better than most so imma reference the tips and process here to my Porsche. thanks as always guy's.
Great video. However I mimicked you and started the engine to test the timing belt without the washer and bolt on the crank shaft gear. The gear pushed out, the belt fell off and I had to redo a lot. Might want to mention that can happen and not test until those parts ore re-installed,
Suggestion, draining the radiator. At the 01:15 mark, he has you remove the radiator cap first, then the drain plug. May I recommend removing the drain plug first (over the pan), THEN open the radiator cap. This way the fluid won't come gushing out all over you. If the top of the radiator is capped, the fluid will come out slowly, until you crack the cap open. Plus you can regulate the flow by placing the cap back on to slow it down, less splashing. WARING: Antifreeze is poisonous but is sweet tasting. Keep your pets away from it and any spill over. Dispose of it at your local garage. Also, when addressing the water pump, if you remove the engine mount bracket that has the 2 large bolts, at marker 00:55 and 03:25 (at his left hand ), removing that bracket opens up the whole area, making accessing the water pump much easier. PLUS, it allows you to easily clean the engine block surface of the remaining stuck on gasket. Just remember to put it back on BEFORE you place the new timing belt back on. I do have a question, how does one torque the crank bolt to 120 ft-lbs with a normal torque wrench. I could find no way to lock the pulley in place to properly torque it, so I just rammed it on with my impact gun, just like he did. If one doesn't have an impact gun for the crank bolt, I don't know how this procedure could be done.
One crucial criticism, at 9:00, After tightening the tensioner pulley, I definitely would NOT have started the engine without first manually turning the engine 2 complete revolutions in the direction the engine normally turns and double checking that both timing marks still line up. It is very easy and common to put the timing belt onto the pulleys while the tension is loose, then discover after everything is tightened up, you're a tooth off.
Take the two 14 mm bolts out of the power steering pump and move the pump over to the dipstick area this gives a lot more room to remove and clean the gasket area.
Great video, you explained how to do this job, and showed it very well. I don't want to do the work, but I totally could referencing this video. Thank you very much.
I'm elbow-deep into the job right now due to a failed water pump. I don't recommend Gates, by the way, I've now had them fail prematurely in two cars. Anyhow, these videos make it "easy" insofar as they have all the instructions for the big-ass lego set that this is. But the job itself is super sucky in a cold Minnesota winter just because it's so time consuming. I understand why this job costs $800.
I saw part 1 an now part 2, the video's are very good and vey explanetory, thank you guy's I always watch yours video's when I doing something to my car's & truck's👍👍👍👍
Very similar to the 2010 Accent 1.6 liter procedure I did. Great video! Much easier than a Mitsubishi Lancer 2.0 liter. I've done 3 of those. Thanx again!
Baldomero Rojas they started the engine to make sure it would start, running an engine for that short amount of time won’t damage anything. Not enough time to heat up
Another reason to start it is to listen to the engine when it finally slows down to idle. Let it settle down and run for a minute or two. If the timing belt is too tight, you'll hear it "whine". (See my other comment about adjusting the belt.) I usually do this before putting the timing covers on and anything else* back together in case I need to readjust it. *But make sure you put the crank pulley back on with the little belt guide washer in between.
@1A Auto: Repair Tips & Secrets Only Mechanics Know 1A Auto The crank pulley moved a little bit (1 tooth) off the alignment mark while putting the new belt on, no idea how that happened, both were aligned perfectly prior to install the new belt. The cam though hasn’t moved at all (still you can see the red mark through the hole) I know I am in trouble now! Because if get the belt off and move the crack pulley separately I am going to bend the valves for sure. please advice
+Wicked Weeds Yes you can replace the water pump without replacing the serpentine belt. If the belt is worn, and it breaks while you are driving, you can damage a lot of other components in that area. Typically the price of a serpentine belt is relatively inexpensive. You will have to remove the belt to replace the water pump anyway. Since you are likely going to have to purchase a new pump, we do recommend that you purchase a belt at the same time.
I just Had the water pump Replaced less then 3 weeks ago should I have had the Timing Belt Replaced too the car is a 2005. Hyundai Elantra now the car won't Start it has Fire and it is getting fuel just won't start.
If some of the other parts are worn out, it's not a bad idea to replace them when they are worn out while you already have them off. It'll save you time and money in the long run, and possibly even a tow bill. Hope this helps you out. Have a great day! 1aauto.com 888-844-3393
Do you always have to replace the water pump when replacing timing belt, power steering and alternator? And one more, all this I'm going to do on my 2000 Tiburon, I see it has three belts what's the other one? Is there a video for it?
You don't have to replace it if it's in good condition, however if it has a lot of miles on it, while you're in there you may want to replace it as a preventative maintenance repair. The third bold (I think) that you're asking about was to drain the antifreeze, we didn't remove it because it was really rusty. Here's a link to the 2000 Hyundai Tuburon parts that we carry on our website. 1aauto.com 888-844-3393
Help please! the crank pulley moved a little bit ( 1tooth) while I was trying to put the new timing belt on. The cam shaft pulley still dead center where you can see the red mark through the whole. Now how can I realign the crank pulley to where it was? Should I just remove the belt and rotate it indefinitely CW till I get it aligned again? Or that’s going to damage the engine
I don't have access to an impact gun, can I use leverage to remove the bolt from the crank bolt? Also, how much torque on the engine mount when reinstalling it. Please let me hear from you and thank you so much for this excellent video. I have a 2.4 I4 Santa Fe that I desperately need to work on. Thanks again.
Lesson learned for me before you start that thing up like that better put that crankshaft plate and bolt on there. Freaking key way flew out on me and bent the dang valves.
My car need timing belt and water pump replacement. However, the mechanic shop around in my town would do it for around $700 to $1000. I can't afford it. My car has 137,000 miles on it and it desperately need them very soon. I found the water pump and timing belt online and can get them for about $120, but I have to have someone to do it for me and I have to pay for the labor. I can't do it myself since it's a big job for me. :-( Is there a better way?
I-I better pay someone else to do this job... Because man this sure looks like a lot of work. I also wanted to check the oil pump by myself because it looks like I have a leak, but that I don't know how to do it.
+cotelo Thank you for checking us out. We agree that replacing the timing set is a labor intensive job and we recommend a professional repair shop doing the work if available. The oil pump is attached to the engine block, and in most cases the timing chain or belt will need to be removed to gain access.
In most cases while doing the timing belt the water pump is replaced at the same time (as well as the tension pulley): The water pump and tension pulley are generally not expensive so you might as well do them at the same time since you're going through all the labor to do the belt.

You make it look so easy to replace timing belt/water pump. Thanks
Thank you for posting. Planning this project for my 06 w/120,000 miles. Ordering for you guys.

good video but i’m currently trying to put the water pump back and it would’ve helped if you guys showed where each bolt went :(

Hey when you lift the engine with your jack where exactly did you place it for support
Great video! But man, are they much better now. 😂😂
Taking the old pump out is easier when you remove the power steering pulley
This will also work for all 2.0L 4cyl Hyundai Tiburons/Tuscani/Coupes (03-08).
I only need to do the water pump so do I have to take everything thing off aswell
Is it necessary to remove all those timing belt components to replace the water pump
I just Had the water pump Replaced less then 3 weeks ago should I have had the Timing Belt Replaced too the car is a 2005. Hyundai Elantra now the car won't Start it has Fire and it is getting fuel just won't start.
Do you Have to pull the timing in order to replace the water pump?
Do you need to remove the timing belt to do the water pump?
This is definitely an all weekend job. The timing belt alone! Why not replace the water pump if you have to take that much off already!

Remove part of the belt and turn the crank until its aligned

what type of coolant do Hyundai take ..can I use Honda coolant..??? its aluminum internals also...
+Lito I would refer to your service manual to find that information. All models are different, so it is important you use the correct fluid.
Just pull the lower radiator hose to get the coolant out, my gosh, seriously 1A auto? You guys are better than this!
What is the estimated time of repair for timing belt? I'd appreciate some answers
For others and future reference, book time varies from 2.60 to 4 hours.
Great video! Well made, very informative and easy to follow!

is $380 the total cost or just the labor? appreciate your response

Great Video!!!
So you're telling me to remove my water pump...I have to do all this?
In most cases while doing the timing belt the water pump is replaced at the same time (as well as the tension pulley): The water pump and tension pulley are generally not expensive so you might as well do them at the same time since you're going through all the labor to do the belt.
Good video but damn,,,so much sh&$ has to come off the motor I mite as well spend another her hr and just rebuild the motor! Lol
