Your videos have been so helpful to me various times, the most recent being to blow across the wet. So helpful! I am 76 years old, only taking up the flute 3 1/2 years ago. I love playing this instrument! My background- I am a professional pianist with advanced degrees in piano. I also have classical vocal training. No experience whatsoever with any wind instrument. My flute teacher is good, but sometimes I think that she doesn’t know what to do with me because of my other knowledge and experiences. For now, I consider myself an intermediate in flute playing. Your videos and explanations are so helpful!
Wow! So happy that you have found flute. I understand that sometimes with adult students a teacher can flounder because they don’t know exactly where you are coming from. Maybe if you explained your goals to her it might help?
Have you ever seen that Gary Larson cartoon where the guy is yelling at his dog, "Bad dog Ginger! Bad dog Ginger"! And what the dog hears is "Blah blah Ginger! Blah blah Ginger!"? That was me when my teacher used to say that word "embouchure". Maybe I was so happy just to be hitting the note, and I didn't want to jinx it by talking about it. Go figure...Watching your video I am reminded to get out my tuner and practice long tones. And to take the time to tell myself to relax...Im really glad that i have finally realized how important embouchure studies are...but that's another story. I would be interested in your making a video on your own practice. For example, if you were going to have a flute work day, what would your schedule be like? Also some details, like what you pay attention to when doing harmonics, intervals, etc. Hooray Faure'! Thank you ~°~
I think I have some students who probably are Ginger as well! I do remember that Farside! I love the suggestion for videos. Maybe a day in the flute? Great idea.
