- September 13, 2023 marked the 30th anniversary of the signing of the Israel-PLO ‘Declaration of Principles’ - seen at the time as a breakthrough towards peace. But it was a somber anniversary - acknowledging the failure of that peace process to deliver an end to occupation of Palestinian lands, Palestinian statehood, or rights. Within less than a month, the magnitude of that failure burst forth and was clear for all to see. Against the backdrop of the cataclysmic Palestinian-Israeli reality, can a path be charted which brings the core issues to the fore and builds towards genuine peace and security? This plenary will assess the state of crisis and ask: where do we go from here, and what role can be envisaged for external actors?

Thank you for raising the matter of sanctions against Israel. Four decades after SA's banking sanctions experience, the pressure point is no longer in New York, but in Brussels where SWIFT is headquartered. SWIFT links over 10 500 financial institutions in over 200 countries to authenticate inter-bank financial transactions. SWIFT falls under supervision of the Belgian central bank, the National Bank of Belgium. And the Belgian government is already in agreement that sanctions must be imposed on Israel.
A simple SWIFT computer programme could immediately suspend all financial transactions to and from Israeli (IL) banks until a ceasefire is implemented plus negotiations for a new era "between the river and the sea". Such negotiations must obviously include Hamas, which better represents the Palestinian people than the discredited Palestine Authority which is seen as an Israeli stooge.
Doha has proven clear leadership in facing and addressing the issue of Palestinian issue compared to other GCC countries, who are unfortunately acting as the ostrich, hesitant to take the issue openly with their citizens and redidents.

If 85% of the Palestinians killed were Hamas fighters, would you still be calling genocide? It is a sticking point for me that Gaza health does not differentiate between Hamas and civilians in the death toll. I'm sure this is deliberate to garner western sympathy against Israel. It seems most media and online posters assume the Palestinian death toll and civilian death toll are the same things. They are not. What the split is we will probably never know.
So interesting to have a conversation about the Middle East without a major player present "Israel'!
What about Iran? It is the Iran 'supreme leader" who spews hate and death to Israel and supplies weapons and training to Hamas, Houthis and Hezbolla who in turn wage war and terrorism against Israel without giving a cuss about the lives of Palestinians, Lebanese etc. A two-state solution will never work long term until Iran (who is now in bed with Putin) is sorted out.

Where was this forum, when 300,000 innocent Yemenis were slaughtered by Saudi-led coalition? Where were the protests in Muslim countries? Yes, war on Gaza must be condemned. Cutting off food and other essentials were done by Saudis in Yemen too. Children were starved to death.
The Palestinian issue is older and therefore they have gotten better at social media and other ways of raising their issue and plight and forming important alliances. Other groups/wars didn't receive much or hardly any support bc of this reason, such as Yemen, Afghanistan, Ukraine, etc. I hardly saw any videos of harm on social media about Afghans, Ukrainians, Yemenis (other than they are poor and need money), etc., but I see like 10 videos a day about Palestinians. Others need to learn from them.

This is an entirely one-sided panel. None of them condemn the hateful sadistic acts of the Hamas terrorists, none of them even condemn the terrorists themselves. Do they even call them terrorists? They fail to mention that Hamas began this war - and they did so deliberately. Not a single one of them mentions that a "Palestinian" state has never existed in the history of the world (and before yet ANOTHER Arab extremist dictatorship is created, efforts should be focussed on creating a Kurdish state).
None of them talks about the constant and omnipresent problem of Islamist fascism in the Middle East. When one of them was questioned about the malignant role of Iran, he didn't even bother to answer. Of course not: Qatar supports the fascist Islamist dictatorship in Iran, despite the fact that 81% of Iranians want it to be abolished immediately.
