Rah (God) also known as Ba'al (Bél) and mount zephon located in the middle east which is the, "temple of the LORD of the north".
Rahxephon literally means, "the bright sun over mount zephon", which is a title essentially meaning, "God of Gods", and, "King of Kings".
Rahxephon is the god of creation and change (time).

Your analysis is cooler than the actual explanation. Yes, "Rah" comes from the Egyptian sun god. However, the creator of the show said that beyond that, the "X" comes from the idea of an unknown factor, and "ephon" actually came from the names of devices that make or transmit sound. "Telephone," "Saxophone," etc.
But your explanation is much MUCH cooler! And it does make me wonder how much deep, mythological stuff ended up in this anime subconsciously.

Rahxephon is like the INFJ's version of Evangelion's whiny INFP inner monologues.

  • @nicobones9608
    @nicobones9608 Рік тому +29

I view Rahxephon as more like a "response" to Evangelion. Evangelion, at its core, is about depression. It features a bleak post-apocalyptic world in which there is no hope, the main character suffers as a child who's in over his head, with a father who hates him, and multiple mother figures who aren't really his mother and he has erotic tension with them.
Rahxephon starts off saying, "The world didn't really end, you just THINK it did because you're trapped in your own little sphere." And the mother who is cold to him turns out to not be his real mother (opposite of Gendo). The blue-haired older woman really is his love interest, because his maturity has been stunted by his surroundings. She is the call for him to become a man, and unlike Shinji, he accepts the call and matures.
Most importantly, whereas Shinji's experience with God (the Eva) is an extremely negative one, Ayato's experience with God (the Rahxephon) turns out to be a positive one, despite some of his ongoing misgivings.

since it was made by anno's friend, I would say that it was a: "this is how you should have done it bro"
and hell, they hired the dude for the rebuild movies, and a lot of the stuff seen in rahxephon went there too,
instead of angels exploding in the shape of a cross of light, now in the rebuilds they explode into blood like in rahxephon, the whole WILLE organization wears the same outfit as the TERRA members, hideaki anno did took note on his friend work and even hired him to work together for the rebuilds

It's not exactly an eva clone, but its first episode sure does everything in its power to make you think it is. (Schoolboy caught in the middle of some weird angelic creature's attack on a city, the short haired Misato lookalike in shades, etc)
People are visually minded so they call shows like Rahxephon, Generator Gawl, Dual, etc Eva clones because of some obvious visual patterns, but Eva's real influence is more subtle than that. Like the way every other series in the late 90s to mid 2000s had to turn into a symbolism-drenched fever dream in the final episode, even if 90% of the show was lighthearted. (e.g. would Outlaw Star have a trippy metaphysical finale if not for Evangelion? probably not)

the thing is that most eva fans don't know any other mecha show except for the normie 3 ones, Gurren lagann, eva and code geass,
How would you know if something had a real impact if you know nothing about its context and predecesors?
anyone who saw 80s mecha can tell you that 99.9% of eva is just a copy of like 9 different series mixed together, with the exact same character arcs and finale as the ones seen in Gundam and Ideon
again, how would you say what was an eva influence and what not? if eva itself was an homage to a lot of mecha shows and specially to yoshiyuki tomino mechas, along with ultraman,
just because it's the only example you know of it, doesn't mean that the japanese dudes that grew up with ultraman and gundam will base everything on evangelion that came out when they were already working in the industry

Just saw the Bones doc on crunchyroll and I needed to watch it. I did think it was very similar to eva. But it's completely different around ep.12 then it becomes a different beast.
It a but flipped eva starts lore quick..and the world is explored more in the beginning. Rahexphone starts slow and quite boring but becomes great. After the black egg resonance ep. I feel it kicks in.
Eva story is less coherent and chopped up. But rahexphone feels coherent but it takes alot longer.
Plus Ayato is a better character then shinji. But haruko is borning misato is better looking and character.
It's a great show both of em. But eva has something about it. Idk maybe because it's eerie...don't get me wrong rahexphone is as eerie in some parts..but angels beat dolem in eerie by a landslide

Another case of 'an EVA clone but' would be Fafner. As for a true EVA clone, to the point it's not even being subtle, that dishonour goes to 'De:Vadasy' - a mecha anime that is not only bad but also depressing.
WARNING (in case you plan on seeing it for yourself): There's a scene where an adult woman s-word assaults a 13 year old boy. Genders be damned, assault is assault and it's wrong. We don't see the act but the anime makes it clear and obvious as to what happened.

Fun video bro I really enjoyed Rahxephon back upon its release well over 20 years ago and it's still too this day one of my favourite animes. Enough I own all physical media and went out of my way to get the manga all the way here in Australia not exactly the place know for its great distribution network.
The similarities to Neon Genesis Evangelion are flesh deep at best a way for people who love to make simple patterns the answer to everything.
But hey at least it got fully animated and released in that kind of 'silver to golden' age before CGI took nearly all mechas shows she took a big old shit on them.
It stands alone I think its worth more than been called a EVA clone.
