Great video. Went to the Royal Citadel after basic training as a 29 Cdo hopeful. Sadly got a stress fracture in my left foot so didn’t make it. Plenty of mates who got their green lid though.
Nice info there mate, I joined 8 Bty in Dec 81 and still keep in touch with some old oppo’s, prob wouldn’t recognize it now with all the tech. Times marching on as they say.

If I chose this as my voluntary regiment after trade training, and then failed the commando selection/course, would I then be booted from the army? Or would I just default to my 2nd/3rd regiment choice?

What are the requirements to get into C troop in ITT?
I believe it’s still to volunteer for 7, 29 or 4/73

Physical requirements will come later.
You have to be fit enough to join the royal artillery since you want do 29 commando training until you have completed phase 2. However in phase 2 C troop will get you to the standard you need to be at. But best to be very fit before u join

You’ll have to pass Sandhurst, commission into the Royal Artillery and volunteer for commando training
Can infantry transfer ?
Yeah anyone can transfer to the Royal Artillery, obviously you have to complete the All Arms Commando course before coming into 29 Regiment
Will they be rolled into the Special Operations Brigade?
No!
They are part of 3 Cdo Brigade who have aspirations of the brigade becoming SOF

Special operations is where the funding and opportunities will be. The Navy is already labelling RNC as special operations.
29 have reserve element?
There's a RA reserve bty involved with 3 Commando Brigade, so would be the closest thing to 29 Cdo reserves:
221 (Wessex) Battery, at Royal Artillery Barracks, Larkhill Garrison[6] - The RA Specialist Battery provides gunnery instructors, Naval Gunfire Liaison Officers to 3 Commando Brigade and personnel to support Headquarters of 1DSR Brigade. The battery also helps train the rest of the Royal Artillery by providing instructors and support to courses.

104 RA (289 Commando Troop) is based in Plymouth, next to the Citadel. They're a Reserve Troop supporting 29 Commando.
