Thanks for watching Meet the Machines: MXR Poly Blue Octave! Be sure to mash the Sweetwater link in the description and snag one for yourself. What piece of gear do you want to see featured next?
I'm battling the perpetual GAS cycle right now. I'm currently feeding the never ending GAS Beast that's never really anything except pacified for maybe three months, and I gotta sell to buy (you know the drill) and really want another Suhr. My Pete Thorn Sig Gold Top was liberated and still hasn't surfaced anywhere (almost 2yrs now) and I'm bummed out, pissed off, and GAS'n BAD! Just not sure which model - or what I even want man. I don't want to get another piece of gear that just becomes more fuel for that perpetual GAS cycle that never ends. Any recommendations?
This is FANTASTIC! Great video Ben. Dude, your channel is just loads of fun and you make me WANT to play. Maybe I'm weird. I watch so many of these type of videos but I'm always coming back to you when I really want to sit down and learn something. Thanks so much for all the Gojira videos! My favorite. Take care Ben . ✌🤘
Holy shit, that Muffin Man segment starting at 13:50 was the gnarliest thing I've heard in awhile and that face when you engaged the phaser was perfect, hahaha. Great demo, Unc!
@@2hi2dye I’ve just been using the adapter it came with into a socket, I have one of those 1 spot adapters chained into 4 other pedals. I don’t have a pedal board atm.
Fantastic opening song! This is the best review/demo of the BOpedal I have seen, and I watched them all, and own the pedal. Each button turn was highlighted by your playing. Subscribed!
By far the best demo for this pedal available..I purchased this pedal from Sweetwater last week. Watching the video will certainly help me dial it in now. The only unforeseen problem that caught me off guard was that it has a fairly high Miliamp draw. 265ma..so this is above a lot of isolated power supply ports. So the only complication is if you want it on your great looking board you may need to discreetly use the supplied power supply or find a current doubler cable and dedicate more than one power supply port. Can’t wait to try some of the settings from your video. Amazing job.
Great video, really clear and simple and loads of fun. The pedal reminds me of the Way Huge Atreides. I had one for a few months and really liked it, but it somehow didn’t end up being useable enough. This seems a clearer and more useful design, VERY tempting!
Thanks Ben, a way informative video so I just decided I'm going to buy one tonight. What I really liked was your playing, you're pretty good, keep at it a guitar brother.
I didn't realize I'd been trying to find this pedal for so long, but now that I have... I had to revisit this video. SO good. _(the pedal and the video)_
You CAN “store” two sounds with and expression pedal: heel down sets first sound, toe down sets second. And it will morph from one to the other w the pedal
I love a lot of different companies when it comes to effect pedals but MXR is my overall favourite as most of the pedals I've owned were made by them. This is the coolest pedal I've seen in a long time. DAMN YOU, BEN! 😀🤘
My first octave pedal was a Pitchfork and I wrote a badass wedding sounding song with it. Octave pedals are great for every style but particularly sounds black metal AF to me!
I bought that pedal but it kind of went into the drawer...It has so much potential with so many different pedal sounds. Thanks for showing me that pedal was worth the buy.
Thanks Uncle Ben. Great video as usual. Yes, allegedly Jimmy Page used a mxr Blue box on the "Fool in the Rain" solo on "In Through the Out Door". I got a blue box but this seems like a modern day version with some very cool improvements. It sounds like the EHX synths/pog pedals tones were added to improve the original blue box's lack of utility with its 2 knobs. While the OG is a one trick pony, this seems like a great multi-function swiss army knife with 4 octaves, a great mxr phaser and fuzz. Seems like a wave of new multifunctional pedals: Jack White has his own three latch octave fuzz (someone watched pedal steel guys using levers, besides Jimmy Page), or the Loomer by Keeley and/or the Way Huge (Paul) Atreides. "Fear is the mind killer"- Dune. Detroit, where Canada is our southern neighbor and we twiddle our knobs.
@@lw1391 Yeah that's it. Thanks. I kept wanting to call it a "Telegraph" which is a road here that Jack would know well. Considering it also looks like a old timey telegraph Morse code tapper it's prolly not a co-inky-dink.

13:19 Getting a lot of Satriani "Engines Of Creation" vibe here. Specifically, the song "The Power Cosmic 2000, Pt. 2" at around 1:05 in the song. Aside from that, I LOVE them spooky tones you were getting at 8:13! Quick, someone bust out the Halloween decorations!
Great playing! Thank you for the demo.👍 And keep in mind that if you have a expression pedal plug into a pedal... It offers you the possibility to actually have the 2 presets you asked for 😜
I have to say Ben could easily be a member of King Diamond or Ghost, as a matter of fact, i would really like to see some videos of uncle Ben analyzing different King Diamond riffs or some of Andy LaRocque's solos and techniques
@@BenEller dude I bought it recently and it's always on one way or another. I was surprised by how organic the pinnacle side is, I thought it would be more compressed an more gainy and I felt let down and happy at the same time for how good it sounds. Interested in your opinion. Keep it up!
Much appreciated Ben but please do us a favor those of us who watch on our cell phones. Please widen the shot so we can see your picking hand is doing and on the inset widen the shot so we can see what buttons you're pushing. I'm kinda old so I my just not know what I'm doing... if so, please advise and put this old timer in his place. Thanks Brother 😊
Back in the 80s I has a Boss supper octave intending to use it on bass. It wasn't appropriate for the group I was with ( I loved John Entwhistle's 12 string tone) and as with much gear what isn't used gets recycled for cash. Here it is 30 years later and a newer smarter more useful pedal came out. I jumped on it. I only wish there wasn't such a volume change when the fuzz came on but you cant please everybody.
Eventide bro!! In combination with a whammy pedal you’re capable of 4 simultaneous voices. I did a Perfect 4th and 5th below, Major 6th above and the octave below on the whammy
UNC!! Be careful! I am worried that you may have shown too much affection to that shiny new mxr and that a certain other pedal we won't mention will get jealous. Please be safe! #GrungePedalJealousy #SkankBanger

Everybody, the song Ben plays at 10:42 is 96 Quite Bitter Beings by CKY
Muffin Man! 🤘🏻😸🤘🏻 I knew you had to be a Zappa fan 👍🏻
This thing would be perfect for the "Fool in the Rain" solo!
I'd like to see an in depth run down on best way to use a compression pedal
Yeah I would too. I don't really know what I am doing.
Buy a compression pedal turn up the compression end of story.
GREAT STUFF BEN YOU ARE THE BEST INSTRUCTIVE TALENT ONLINE AND A DAM GOOD GUITARIST IN YOUR OWN RIGHT!
I never considered getting an octaver but you sold me on this pedal - so many great sounds!
Great Content as Always! The Track was Awesome. 🤘
A nostalgia bomb smacked me in my face!!! gotta add CKY back to the ol playlist. Thanks uncle Ben!
Who needs a keyboard player with this beast! Great review Ben. MXR owes you.
That opening track was great Unlce Ben. 👍 Nailed it.
Very cool little box!! MXR has made such good qaulity stuff for lot years
This could be a fun pedal this is the best video i seen yet on this pedal ,Thanks man.
Wow that's crazy! That pedal is loaded. I could see Ghost using something that for some haunting riffs. Really cool 👍
That Call of Ktulu *chef's kiss*
Dammit, Uncle Ben, i'm trying to save money!!! This thing is right up my alley.
Got this pedal two days ago, it’s a lot of fun to use, it’s good for just fuzz or the mod knob by itself. I dig it.
