A year ago this time was when I graduated from high school. Unlike a lot of people, I had a very happy, simplified and fun time at school. I had some of the best friends and we lived in this own world of ours, away from the toxicity of this world, away from all the tensions and complexities. Anything ever went wrong, I always had these people to take care of me and we fought through everything together. No obstacle was too big because we all were there to face it up together. It was a cocoon of a world, so shielded, so protected, so happy. Then this fairytale of a phase of life ended and I was thrusted into adulthood. I had to move across the planet to a new country for college and had to leave my friends and family behind to start a new life. I used to always be very optimistic about everything. While I was at school, my friends and I used to spend countless hours thinking about what it would be like to be on our own, how exciting college would be, how we'd be one step closer to achieving all our dreams. Truth is, college has been drastic and brutal. I have never felt so lonely, or so on my own. I feel like I will never be able to recover from this void. I feel like I will never be back in that state of happiness. I will never be as contented as I once was. I am just drifting through life. I am just floating through the moments, hoping that the time passes by, hoping that somehow I manage to pull myself through this and not succumb to this growing pit that constantly calls me to bury myself within. I spent countless nights in school listening to this song and enjoying it for how it sounded, probably never truly understanding what it meant. The lyrics hit harder now that I know what they are talking about. I just wish things would change. I just wish things would get better. I just wish I could go back to that phase of my life.
