Great, but paired with running JBV1 is a must IMO, then you get frequency and more. But nice to have options.:) Btw, Appreciate all you do! Always an instant thumbs up from me.👍
Why would you need GPS in 2024 when all K band from doors and other nuisances can be filtered? I haven't seen a cop (at least in Texas) use K band in 3+ years!
@@MrTechnicks GPS to automatically toggle to highway mode. GPS to not alert under a certain speed like Uniden's Q-Ride settings. Some places use K still and filtering may have a negative effect for some. Having an auto-mute memory option is nice. If Uniden has it. V1 should have it.
First: thank you for very good information video's on detectors. I used to have one when I was a teenager but not since and I'm 48 now so times are changed and had to catch up on the technology change and you have been perfect for that. So the question I have is can you answer here or do a video on why displaying the frequency is so important. You all may think this is a stupid question but last time I played with a RD no one cared about that. Is there common frequencies that everyone know (except me) that we ignore and it's common knowledge or do you just like the extra information. Because of your videos I'm also leaning for the Uniden R4 since I live in Kingman AZ and the town is only 30K population and I usually drive on long stretches of highway with rolling hills and NO houses and according to all your reviews it's the best at very long rang over hill detection.
I suppose it's ok for someone who doesn't want to use an app. But at that price, no thanks. I'm happy with the 3rd party apps (or even V1's own app) and they have more functionality for little to no cost.
Will there ever be a significant paradigm shift in how radar devices are implemented in cars? I would be happy with an interface or hardware repackaging even if the performance didn't improve.
Hey vortex, I have an unrelated question I was just wondering since I live in southern Alberta if it would be fine to run K narrow on my R4 instead of k wide the only k threats in my area are raptor Rp1s which I heard transmit between 24.125 and 24.150 or if I should just keep my r4 on k wide
I just bought a fast car and am in the market for a decent radar detector. What do you recommend? I would like a simple but effective unit. By that I mean I dont want to spend hours learning how to use it. I would like to plug it in and make some minor adjustments/settings and be on my way. Is there such a thing? I can afford an expensive unit however they seem to be the most complicated and what I am trying to avoid. I dont plan to hot rod often and I only drive fast if the situation lends itself.
The only CarPlay/Android Auto support is with Escort and their CarPlay stuff is next to useless. For a motorcycle, including app options, start here: ua-cam.com/video/qOh53QjTWbY/v-deo.htmlsi=fCsL5Mlmg3t85sIl
I guess this is the Uniden user in me used to a proper OLED pixel display talking, but this type of 7 segment driven few button interfaces seem so 90s style dated. You'd think they'd design a proper matrix display at least as an add-on 🤷🏽♂
@VortexRadar Thank you. I have seen many of your dash cam videos. I have the Viofo bookmarked as my top pick, but I was specifically curious about remote viewing ability.
Ariel, there is an app for the Escort M1 Dashcam but I have the M2. Nothing I can find says they’re compatible. I tried unsuccessfully to use. Any thoughts? Thanks.
Im looking to buy a device in the new year. I've not had one before, so I'm open to some good suggestions. It's for use in the UK. Any input is appreciated. Asking for a fren.
R8W if you want maximum sensitivity. Redline 360C if you want the least annoying detector out of the box. I've owned both. Currently running the R8w and do miss how quiet the redline was out of the box. Its filtering was superior by a long shot, and I would still get plenty of warning on KA (miles out even in clutter environments). I only sold it because a buddy offered to buy it, and wanted some thing with WIFI and jammer capability. The R8W is really annoying out of the box and needs a LOT of tweaking to get it to shut up. The range is overkill I'd say. And it picks up every single BSM out there. It's so bad I'm considering turning off K completely. Yes, this is even after using all recommended settings per vortex and forums. I'm honestly not sure I'm going to keep it, but I"m slowly getting it fine tuned to my local area, and it's nearly as quiet as my redline. TL;DR Redline 360C if you just want to slap it onto the windshield and have it work without driving you nuts. R8W if you are extremely paranoid and want to know if cops are farting around 3 miles away.
I have been using them for over 20 years now. When I couldn't upgrade my old version anymore I bought the new model and it's working even better than the old one. No more fake alerts and I can connect it straight to my phone and see every detail about detection. I speed all the time and I've only gotten one speeding ticket in my life, when I drove back in high school from my friend's house to my house 6 blocks away and didn't turn my radar on. 9 over. Cop car number 402, old guy, I remember it like yesterday!
Too little too late. Using the JBV1 on my phone. Also it really should be wireless and run on a couple of batteries. Passport used to have a battery powered detector back in the 1990s and I loved it. 30 years later and V1 still doesn't get it. (But I do love the detector.)
I presume you’re referring to the R8? Not sure why people keep forgetting to specify. Anyways, while I’m on vacation, the forums are the best place to discuss. www.rdforum.org/threads/143400/#post-1961196
Good point. They could have used hte BT functionality for it to communicate. As someone else stated, it is high time V1 added GPS as well. I still have the Gen 1 with ESP but have been looking at new detectors. While trading that one in gives me a good discount, I still keep being steered more towards Uniden. Hopefully V1 will come out with a slightly revised unit that has an LCD screen with the other features we would like to see.
To me, the utilization of this device would be an “In-Peripheral” quick-look before having to try and change road focus to my iPhone for more information. I realize it would still need a power cord or changeable/chargeable internal battery.
Facts, but these fangirls would still cry and say that their beloved V1 is great even though there's little to no proof of that outdated junk working in the real world. 😂
@@ar_2015Chill buddy, you are the one acting like a crying girl answering a lot of comments and calling others fangirls…if V1 is not your thing, good for you and be happy but stop the whining.

GPS and MRCD/T integration would make this a viable second unit for my other car. Here in NYC it's all MRCT and Ka

Thanks for covering the Gen 1 V1 as well.
I still have two of those.
I can’t justify the upgrade cost to the Gen 2 yet.
Just ordered mine!
I would pay for this added functionality if it could be done thru the V1 app using CarPlay.
Interesting , happy holidays vortex

Nice add on....im gonna check my truck and see if there would be any place to mount it.
Wonder if Uniden will ever release theirs for the R7/R8

V1 should make some different mounting solutions. Remote mounting the main unit is a huge advantage.

I just got a uniden r8w and it came with a little scratch on the horn. Will this affect anything?
Nice but wish one didn’t need to tether things to add functionality that others have had built in for quite some time now.

OLEDs are pretty, but they are harder to read in direct sunlight, plus they eventually lead to burn-in. Trade-offs.
Thanks 👍
Do you have any videos or information on dash cams that you can view remotely from your phone?
