Pakistan's Pashtuns are scheduled to hold a National Assembly or Jirga tomorrow. The Jirga will be held in the Khyber District. But Islamabad is cracking down on the Pashtuns. The Pakistani government has banned the group organising the Jirga, the Pashtun Tahafuz Movement, or PTM. Police forces have attacked Pashtuns making their way to Khyber, and yesterday they even assaulted the jirga venue. Why is Pakistan attacking the Pashtuns instead of talking to them? Why won't Islamabad allow a peaceful assembly? And does Pakistan's military have a role to play in the crackdown?

Do clarify by stating that PTI (Imran Khan's party) is ruling in KPK for the past 3 governments. PTI's Imran Khan champions himself as a vocal for Pakhtuns rights. But he is the instrument in backstabbing his own ethnic group just to please the establishment and to comeback and remain in power. Recently their party in KPK denounced PTM and called them traitors. Seems like the champion of democracy has a very soft heart for Talibans but none for his peaceful public, pakhtuns.
P.S: Police in Khayber is run and controlled by PTI run govt in KPK.

The interesting fact is that the "Pashtun Tribe", living in today's Afghanistan and Pakistan is one of the 12 lost Israelite tribes that converted from Judiasim to Islam around 11 centuries ago.

I think India is more powerful rules .India give right for every provincial language right to their official language like punjab official language is punjabi and English. Others provinces hindi language they have different provincial languages but Pakistani forceing people to learn urdo language this is very difficult for pashtoon people and children to study on this language by international rules every child must have study on their mother language or tongue but pashtoon people language pashto is majority in Pakistan there four provinces in two province people speaking in pashto in pashto language because ptm want their language rights their economy and natural sources all use by army pashtoon people don't have food they are struggling Pakistani army spending on army to compete with India i think this stupidity people don't have but government of Pakistani buying weapons
In India there's some states that don't even learn Hindi like Tamil Nadu and nobody is forcing them.
In India they are called states and in Pakistan they are called provinces. States have way more power to make their own laws except few things.
For example Karnataka state has an active dispute with many neighbours about their border eventhough they are all inside India. There is a lot of power for each state. In Northeast India states like Mizoram and Nagaland have so much extra powers that they can make their own tribal laws and live their own tribal lifestyle without interference from Central Indian Government.
It's not just a gathering, it's a national court. And maybe a referendum to follow
