4:37 "East of Murna, NE" That's actually Merna, with an E. I once took a road trip alond Nebraska Highway 2, which goes through a lot of these villages, and somehow remembered the name. Saw a lot of BNSF coal trains, that week.
At 1:49, Newcastle, Wyo. See that highway overpass back there? When I ran BN trains in the mid '70's on, that overpass was NOT built yet. The significance of that, you ask? Because, the refinery just a few blocks away, loaded fuel (gasoline and jet fuel) 24 hours a day. The truck drivers did NOT want to get stopped at that crossing (essentially where the camera person is standing). There were multiple times I pretty much shiit my pants coming west (as seen here) or east and barely missed these loads of fuel. There were no crossing gates at that time. Law enforcement certainly did not want anything to interfere with the cash flow in and out of their town. We used to have to perform switching across this crossing as well (yards on the right side of frame). The truckers would run your ass over just so they would not have to wait. One night, I literally threw a lit fusee as hard as I could throw it right into the windshield of a fuel truck. I grabbed onto the cut of cars and got out of sight. The past is not always a romantic time.
Many of those 50xx and 51xx cantankerous General Electrics you see were sold to Brazil and shipped south. Some, that survived, are probably still producing slow speeds and annoying smoke pulling ore down there.
Thanks so much for bringing this classic BN Action to UA-cam! This is so cool to see, and it's sad that what used to be BN is now BNSF or abandoned. (Pretty much BN's fault.)
The Settings in this video are Amazing!!
Good looking shots (and power)!! Man, I miss the 90's.

Thank you for pointing that out! We’ll be sure to have that changed when we release the full video on UA-cam.
The BN is by far the best!
Trainzguy 101 You know it! XD
I love seeing former Burlington Northern locomotives!!!
Me too! I miss the BN!
Love the cabooses! I still don't think a freight is a complete train without one.
Reminds me of when I was a kid growing up in northeastern Wyoming.
nice video
i think so but i like it when trains honk more i like the sound of locomotive horns
Awesome video!
Thank you!

Neat story! I can only imagine the stress with those trucks! Thanks again for sharing your stories with us! I appreciate it!!!

Very likely! We've seen some videos of them down there...

Please elaborate
Yes
wow that train at 4:00 is flying only trains i've seen going faster is CSX on the New River in WV
@NS9746 It was, but returned to EMD then back to BN on lease.
The first 4 BN locos look new or just clean.
Most likely just clean. BN took pride in their locomotives back in that time period and cleaned them often. Thank you for watching!
Before BNSF came to be - very nice
Thank you!!!
