    I was running this saw for about 2 hours at about a 30-50% duty cycle ua-cam.com/users/postUgkxfQm1wmg0ItKDLavxj1nXtQY9HP7EF504 and it did a great job. I used the lever for the built in sharpener to clear chip buildup out more than to actually sharpen the chain. It managed to cut some hardwood stumps much larger than it's size without bothering the neighbors with hours of 2 stroke noise.

    You know the single thing I like most about the finished product? It SOUNDS like a mini-chainsaw. From the sound alone, you have a decent chance of guessing at what it is. Even with whatever flaws it might have due to things like having to have the blade in upside down, you cannot deny what it is. Awesome job, dude! In my opinion, the upsidedown blade just gives it more character. (As long as it is used properly, at least. Otherwise it's dangerous as hell.)

    • @johnnyq90
      @johnnyq90  6 років тому +4

      Unfortunately the chain cuts in only one direction if you see closely, and the engine was spinning it in the opposite direction. By flipping the chain, the correct cutting direction is achieved, but in order to cut safely and avoid any kick back, I was cutting with the upper section of the blade where the teeth of chain are faced towards me, pulling the chainsaw in to the wood and not away. I should have made it more clear in the video because many people are now confused.

    • @omeganoconfictos
      @omeganoconfictos 6 років тому +2

      Oh, yeah, I understood. Hence my saying as long as it's used properly. I'm not sure I would want to see the results of someone trying to use it like a regular chainsaw not knowing they needed to cut from the bottom with it...

    • @johnnyq90
      @johnnyq90  6 років тому +79

    This is epic! Well done. Would you want to "nitrofy" the vintage gas powered drill Diresta gave me? Mustie1 has it right now and it looks like the engine needs some work...maybe a replacement is needed...

    • @johnnyq90
      @johnnyq90  6 років тому +8

      Haha that would be awesome but I would never attempt it for 2 reasons:
      1) Model nitro engines will never have the power of the engine that this drill has.
      2) It would be really pity to destroy an antique tool like this.
      It's a really cool toy for real men

    • @HandToolRescue
      @HandToolRescue 6 років тому +4

      Interesting...
      The drill already has a model airplane engine on it, it's just that the carb is the worst design of all time. It's only 20cc. Do they make nitro 20cc engines?

    • @Daydreaminginmono
      @Daydreaminginmono 6 років тому +1

      In some addball applications they do make 20cc nitro engines but only for planes and the like. If you did manage to find one, it would probably be quite expensive and old. You could try to source a carb of a better design and hotrod it on there, that would be the most cost effective solution as carbs come up cheap on fleabay.

    • @largeleif

      It was spinning the correct way before he flipped the chain. Typically you cut with the bottom of the bar. With the direction of rotation the way he has it you're more likely to slip and jab it into your face.

    • @skeletron77
      @skeletron77 6 років тому +6

      AsianPerson3 what have you reverse engineered? EXACTLY! It was an epic waste of time. It took him three 15 minute videos of fabrication to essentially make the same device only less practical, less safe/more dangerous, and to run off of $10 worth of nitro instead of 5 cents worth of electricity. Not only is it an elaborate 7th grade science fair failure, it is also 40 times worse for the environment. What he accomplished in his experiment is what NOT to do to a cordless saw!

    • @LastExile1989
      @LastExile1989 6 років тому +2

      skeletron77 What have I reverse engineered? Lmfao Don't even ask me that. I'm a mechanic by trade. Motorcycles in particular. I learned through my father in law who was certified through Honda back in 1974. I have over 9 years hands on experience. I could run circles around you with 1/4 of the shit I known and have seen. You ever stripped down a 1964 CB 550? Or even seen a 79 yami 850 tripple? I own both and rebuilt them from scratch. Without manufactured parts. You are barking up the wrong tree kid. Get a fucking life.

    • @jeffsims7386
      @jeffsims7386 6 років тому +1

      Yeah, nitro methanol has got to be at least 40 times worse for the environment than batteries made from questionably sourced, wildlife displacing, human condition deteriorating cobalt right? Go child labor!

    • @LastExile1989
      @LastExile1989 6 років тому +2

      Jeff Sims Lmfao another wanna be hippy. The displacement of that motor is so small. Do some research. The epa banned the use of two strokes for recreational use only if the displacement and hp are low. Limiting the field to small rc cars planes and fucking weed eaters. Their carbon footprint is smaller than yours after a noon at McDonalds.

    Magnificently whimsical in several dimensions:
    1. Banggood links the Part 1 video in their listing for the nitro engine.
    2. The combination of high-level engineering, machining and workshop skills you employed to make a tool just about every bit as functional as the battery operated tool you tore apart. But. . . the ultimate prepper mod. When the zombie apocalypse hits, you may be stuck with no electrical power to recharge batteries, but a 55 gallon drum of 16% nitro fuel in your back yard. So you soldier on.

    • @johnnyq90
      @johnnyq90  6 років тому

      The chain cuts in only one direction if you see closely, and the engine was spinning it in the opposite direction.
