The sad thing is that they can't see how wrong it is. I've always thought that Australia seems to be quite racist and this debate proves it. They said in the debate that they tolerate other cultures, not embrace. In this day and age should be the level that we view each other. What is evident is that the panel are at least 25yrs behind when it comes to race and engaging with, and excepting all cultures. I take my hat off to Harry Connick for exposing the sad and backward attitudes of people who
None of this so called expert panel, with the exception of Vince Sorrenti who would have grown up in Australia being called a wog by racist anglo Australians, would have the remotest idea of how damaging casual racism is to ethnic groups, especially black Americans. Prue and the shock are way off the mark on this one but don't even realise it. This was 2009 though when Australia was just starting to wake up to the idea of true multi culturalism. I'm sure she looks back on this clip and cringes in shame when she brings out the doll. Her comments of how we 'give them welfare' was such a typical condescending comment that absolutely encapsulates a racially intolerant society. Vince is completely correct, but he has experienced casual racism himself so knows what it does to people, but the other two just embarrassed themselves.
God forbid Harry Connick Jr. actually speaks out against what he realizes was insensitive and ignorant. If you had any nonwhite panellists on the segment I'm sure they would be able to school you on why this is not acceptable. Vince Sorrenti was correct that the skit had no redeemable qualities to it. Consequently, Prue MacSween you also grew up with White Australia policies. Just because you were not personally offended (especially since it did not apply to you), does not mean other people should not.
It is not right....however I understand how these people think this is ok. Most people in Australia have never even met a black person...not even an Aboriginal. Whilst I have travelled and lived overseas so I understand first hand why this is offensive and oppressive. Meanwhile, I grew up in a place that had no Asians, no Aboriginals, and definitely no black people. I had one friend growing up who was Indian and I found her family fascinating. I had not even met an Aboriginal person until I was 18. American history was not taught in Australian schools, in fact barely more than a couple of pages were dedicated to Aboriginal history. None of this is right and I am happy to say it has come a long long way from this. There wasn’t malice, ONLY ignorance, which is embarrassing. One of the many good things I can say about Australia is that 99% of Australians today, upon finding out they have offended someone and why will firstly be horrified and then secondly go out of their way to understand why so they don’t do it again.
@@amandast100 that is not true in my experience. And I've lived in four countries and speak a foreign language, and am learning another one. Australians are well traveled, but not well cultured. Hell hath no fury like an Aussie accused of racism. As you point out, a lot of this is environment. A lot is cultural and geographical too (Australia is isolated). It does come down to education and awareness, but I'm afraid a lot of Australians still get super sensitive about this when they'd be better being off more empathetic.
prue your heritage is only 200 years that symbol of that doll u carry is the very pincal of racial certification to dehumanise culture and offend the human race and your side kick who makes excuse after excuse .golywog is an offensive as u making it ok..i would like to c u pair say that 2 the aboriginal people! how would u feel ,its called barriers, think before u talk!
@JohnWoo Don't be like that. You're commiting the same unfortunate fallacies as these idiots did. We're not all ignorant, some are, just like in the US. I'm totally against the skit, and these morons yapping on are those with convicted opinions like your Bill O'Reilly. Please understand this for people in Australia, like myself, working to change our country's racism.
I think most missed that they were taking the p*** out of Michael Jackson. I think too tho that times have change what was funny now isn’t. Can you imagine if Kingswood Country was done now
After the war Australian Parliament debated whether Italians were “white” enough to be allowed to emigrate to Australia during the white Australia policy era.
Harry at 0.41 never finished his sentence, "If they turned up lookin' like that in the United States......." (I'll finish it for him)........."they'd be shot dead on suspicion by a policeman." But of course they wouldn't find that racist would they. That's normal over there. In my view, the performers were quite restrained, not a clue about Michael Jackson being born female with the testosterone causing his nose to grow rather uncontrollably and annoyingly to him, it seems. Next they should do a skit on The Spice Boys, tennis thieves - the Williams brothers or Christopher Hyndes of the Pretenders (the name says it all, she/he dancers on stage singing "I'm Special" song just like a man, funny that!). Coincidentally, I just finished watching TV show "Harry" with guest Whoopi Goldberg, sporting his size 12 shoes advising audience to be kind to trangenders. Ha Ha, decepticons !
Marty Barry I am black African and I moved to Australia these peoples cry over not much racism is a dream I have sexy with so many white woman in Australia there’s no racism plenty have sex but no condom it’s against religion
Newsflash: It was offensive 20 years ago, too. So the defense that the guys were on 20 years ago just proves you haven't learned anything in 20 years.
The sad thing is that they can't see how wrong it is.

The best red faces skit ever and it was a tribute to Michael Jackson
Did that lady just brought out a gollywog doll? Jesus Christ! In the UK you can never bring out that thing in the open... Bloody hell...
Harry Connick could not have done anything else.
This is so offensive, I can’t believe anyone could defend it…
It's disturbing to me that they could find people to defend this.
THEY SHOULD HAVE GOT A MIX OF RACES TO DEBATE THIS NOT JUST (MOSTLY) WHITE
Prue is an embarrassment
Very sad that the initial broadcast happened, and very sad they didn't even try to have a balanced discussion about it. 😢
God that Karen was so cringe. I can imagine someone canceling her on Twitter lol

I’m glad we agree that Italians and Greeks aren’t white.
God K-AK is smoking hot
Maybe have a black person to tell you why its offensive? Also tolerant society? Tell that to the aboriginal people

Vince then blames Harry for pointing out this stupidity.
I can’t even with these people!. This nostalgia aka Racism

OK Aussies so do a skit on the Abos - go on - see what happens then -
People are so precious these days they should grow some balls!! Just pathetic !!

You should not project your culture on others... that can be construed as racist too
Italian is not white?
Italians have been white for less than 100 years in the US. lol Australia is a little slow...
After the war Australian Parliament debated whether Italians were “white” enough to be allowed to emigrate to Australia during the white Australia policy era.
Prue needs a date with Michael Meyers.

This is probably worse than the act itself, how is this 2009?
4:57 Is so true
Find this dated and yes racist skit as humour.
