Because she's normal in the donor conceived community. I'm the extreme outlier in that we've only found us 2 so far. But none of us will ever know how many siblings we have. Nobody keeps accurate records, so it's all up to the luck of the draw of who decides to take a DNA test
I’m donor conceived and there’s only 6 or 7 of us known so far. All women, all with brown-frequently curly-hair. AFAIK my bio father decided in his late 30s-early 40s that he probably wasn’t going to get married or have kids so he thought he’d do something nice for people that wanted children. Seems like a chill dude. I’ll probably never meet him though because there’s really no need for me to. I love my parents (bio mom and “adoptive” dad) so I don’t feel like I’m “missing” a family member. I’ll be adopting children anyway, lmao. No need to track my DNA, it’s not going anywhere.
@@MyBeautifulHealth there was at least one case of a married couple with children finding out they were siblings through the same donor. they were....shocked. to say the least. it's a reason to have genetic testing before marriage or kids.
@lilyhendersonh Because he's actually really freaking smart. I've seen him on the "Downside" podcast and he talked about numbers just making sense to him. That's one of the reasons I followed him because numbers are like that for me too. Random talent that has no real use but still nice to find someone like me 😂
the way he said it, i thought he was like just throwing it out there as a random no. i literally pulled out a calculator to check. that was very impressive.
A lot of people who are good at mental math break it down into easier equations to solve quicker. He probably did 54/2, which could be broken down into (40/2) + (14/2), then moved the decimal point back to the correct place.
I found the in-video subtitles to be quite poor compared with other stand-up comedians’ videos on UA-cam (namely Gianmarco Soresi’s), as they were intermittent and only ever seemed to communicate the bits that were perfectly audible and never the bits that weren’t. 😕
Unfortunately, I think the subtitler couldn't understand or hear her either. Nor could I, with my 100% hearing. The only one I caught that the subtitles missed was when he asked how many siblings she met. She replied, "like 15".
They vet them for genetic conditions, certain undesirable physical traits (there’s a height minimum for example), predispositions to conditions like cancer or diabetes, and I believe criminal record, but they don’t vet politics, and I doubt they vet for the number of times previously donated.
Not really. Most clinics say they only use a donor for a specific amount of families but they aren’t legally required to stick to that limit at a federal level in the US so it’s common for clinics to ignore it if that donor’s sperm sells well. And even if they did stick to the limit, the donor can easily just go to a different clinic once he meets the limit for the first one. Plus stuff gets more complicated when you take into account that donors can donate internationally as well. They’re also not legally required to verify medical history. So lots of donors lie about that stuff in order for their sperm to be accepted. And even if they were honest about it, if they develop medical conditions later on, the clinics aren’t required to get that information to the recipient parent(s) or donor convinced person. (Fertility clinics shouldn’t get to determine who is medically fit to donate because that can very easily slide into full blown eugenics territory really fast, but accurate, up to date medical history absolutely needs to be readily available so recipient parents can make informed choices when choosing donors and so the donor conceived person can get appropriate treatment for any conditions that may have been passed down to them) Sperm and egg donation is a great thing but it really should not be something people are payed to do because it incentivizes people to do it for the wrong reasons. And having donors be known from birth should be the standard for the safety of the donor conceived people. Donor conceived people have died due to the donor’s “right to privacy” being prioritized over the lives of donor conceived people who, just as a reminder, have zero control over how they are conceived. I strongly recommend watching Laura High’s content. She’s a donor conceived person and advocate who works with other donor conceived people, recipient parents, donors, people working in the fertility industry, and others to make the fertility industry safer for everyone. Her podcast is great and she posts a ton of short form content on TikTok as well if that’s more your speed :)

How many people have unknowingly slept with a sibling? 😫
@MyBeautifulHealth We hear more and more stories as time goes on as more people find out they even have unknown half siblings out there

am i the only one distracted by the fact that he's dressed like Shaggy....? not a dis. just randomly wondering where Scooby is.
Scooby went into musical theatre
1:10 I googled it, 2.71 times 20 is actually 54.2 so like, damn
Just divide 54 by 2 and then divide it by 10?
Found you from Gianmarco's podcast and glad I did. You're hilarious.
how tf did he do math that quick
Math is a language. If you speak it often you speak it well and don’t have to take as long to come up with the right words.

54 divided by 2?
@@iuriepripa3171 Yeah, I don't remember any math besides saying 25 older and 25 younger than her.
@@iuriepripa3171 54 divided by 20; which is very slightly trickier.
How'd he get 2.7 that quick?!
54/2 is 27. Mess with some decimals and 54/20 is 2.7
the way he said it, i thought he was like just throwing it out there as a random no. i literally pulled out a calculator to check. that was very impressive.
Some people are just really gifted mathematically I always was able to do all my math work in my head at school
@@zbaran19I heard him say it and was like: perfect example of breaking down a larger number into smaller components. Easy to do in one's head

he should hire an actual subtitler, lol
(not HOH, but auditory processing disorder)
I think its automatic subtitles so the bot wont subtitle what it cant discern.
oh gosh so they really don't vet them before they are allowed to donate.
