How to Put on a Duvet Cover: The California Roll Way

  • Inspired by the art of making sushi, we are introducing a unique way to stuff a comforter inside a duvet cover. Watch our step by step process of the California Roll: the easiest way to put on a duvet cover all by yourself. More information: www.craneandcan...
    Shop this duvet cover set:
    www.craneandcan...
    Step 1: Take your duvet cover from the dryer and turn it inside out. Lay the duvet cover out on top of your bed. The opening of the duvet cover should be facing away from where you stand.
    Step 2: Take your comforter (or duvet) and place it on top of the duvet cover.
    Step 3: Ensure all corners and edges are aligned neatly. The more aligned they are to one another, the better the end result. If your duvet cover comes with corner ties, tie all interior corner ties of the duvet cover to the loops on the comforter.
    Step 4: Once aligned, stand opposite of the opening of the duvet cover and begin to roll the comforter and duvet cover. Adjust the edges as you roll, making sure they are rolled together.
    Step 5: After everything is completely rolled up, grab hold of one end of the roll. Using the enclosure of the duvet cover, stuff the comforter roll inside. Continue the motion across the entire roll.
    Step 6: Zip up the duvet cover. Position the California Roll on the bed so that the zipper enclosure is aligned with the bottom of the bed.
    Step 7: Start unrolling. The unrolling motion should be a mixture of unrolling and pulling apart the duvet cover from the roll.
    Step 8: Give the duvet cover a few shakes and that’s it!

    Really amazing, I swear. This looked like something impossible and I confess the hardest part for me was TURNING THE DUVET COVER INSIDE-OUT, so I believed there was no hope for me whatsoever to get this thing right. Guess what? It worked beautifully. Thanks for a really awesome video. My new duvet cover is happily installed and it didn't take all that long once I knew what I was doing.

      Exactly!!! I have the same thing and found that to be a challenge, particularly for myself who has rheumatoid arthritis severely in the hands. It takes a little more time and work when the cover isn't completely open all the way.

    • @GrandmaSezSo
      @GrandmaSezSo 4 роки тому +5

      Yep. Same here with the opening stopping short on both ends. Why did they make it like that anyway? If I ever buy another duvet cover the number ONE thing I will be looking for is...does the damn thing open all the way?!

    • @rachymarie
      @rachymarie 4 роки тому +1

      I have a question:
      So my duvet cover is from AliExpress and the zip doesn't go all the way across either, but also the zip is not right on the end of the cover, it's up about half a metre from the end, on the bottom side of the cover.
      Does anyone know if this trick would still work with that?

    • @sweetiespoon5150
      @sweetiespoon5150 2 роки тому

      @@rachymarie I know you asked this months ago, but.... How I would approach this: I would lay this duvet cover flat with the zipper side down (so that you cannot see the zipper side), roll it up like the video shows, but then you are turn it right side out starting at the zipper, rather than like it shows in the video, & tuck the end of the comforter to the corners before unrolling it.

    I'm sure the brilliance in this is being able to do this alone without tediously switching from side to side. For that reason I'll definitely keep this in mind. But, with an additional set of hands, making the bed is usually a lot less mystical lol.

    Congratulations to the contorted mind that devised this piece of magic. It worked a treat, though in following the instructions I nearly rolled my laptop into the sausage with the comforter. I have taken this a staage further - I now iron my cover inside out, ready for the act. Trying to fathom out a similar trick for pillows.

    • @sweetiespoon5150
      @sweetiespoon5150 2 роки тому +1

      I always wash the pillow covers inside out. When I put them back on the pillows, I put my hands inside of the pillow cover down to the corners, grab the corners of the pillow (hands still in the cover) & turn the cover right side out over the top of the pillow. No more dislocated shoulder from shaking the pillows unnecessarily. 👍🏻
