Correction. Hes the protagonist thats a villian. Antagonist is a character against the protagonist. They dont have to be evil plus you cant be a protagonist and a antagonist at the same time.

This reminds me of the story of a artist that had dementia he would always draw self-portraits every year they would cloudy and cloudier and weirder it just became a Big Blob

Kinda disappointed by the use of Heartaches and It's just a burning memory. I wish people could come up with new ways to express confusion/dementia instead of just slapping Caretaker's music onto it.
Tbh - same. If we take that out, the rest of the story is kinda interesting. But oh well, the author/Gramps has to follow trends and whatnot.

The topic has been revealed the moment that music started.
With the amount of internet horror using everywhere at the end of time, it just becomes somewhat funny. Why would some 65 year old man play Garry’s mod, and pick Everywhere at the end of time as the background music? It ruins my immersion if I’m being honest.
Sure, in this it’s there favorite song but I still don’t like it’s overuse as “general purpose creepy song” when everywhere at the end of time already had a story to it, seeing it repurposed so often detracts from the original works value.
That track is overused, I agree. The channel/Tommy could have used some other way to show the "dementia" or "memory loss" element.
I personally would've had Tommy accidentally reveal that he made the channel for the sake of his grandson, a dead boy who loved Garry's Mod, but he goes insane and loses clarity before finally letting go of this denial and thanking everyone for sticking around.
Something to note is that a symptom of dementia is seeing a golden border around your vision, giving the effect of a halo. I believe this is what the halos in some of the videos is supposed to be conveying.
Did you just make that up? There’s nothing saying you have a “golden border” around your vision. And only lewy body dementia has hallucinations

I think ”this sounds different” might mean he accidently choose it’s just a burning memory when he searched for heartaches. He doesn’t quite notice the difference, but knows something is off.
This would be so much cooler if it didnt beat you over the head with obvious hints at the story and left it up to the symbolism

Trollface is an old meme from the 2000s and people have grown up with new memes so people will forget that it existed so it and dementia go together like ham and cheese.

Something I noticed but didn't see you mentioned about the "Tommy takes his wife to work" video is how when he drops off his wife the model for the wife also changes to a different model suggesting he's forgetting even whst model he assigned to his wife.
I remenber seeing hello youtube on r/gmod and not realising something was wrong

Normaly a Gmod arg isnt scary
However one about dementia is terrifying

Gmod ARG's be like : haha so good day lets play something (shadow man , show's him self)lets go camping(shadow arg man dissapears)haha what a fun day! , lets some sleep , (teleports to the bed) sleep time!
Things rad failed to mention (in no particular order) :
1) at 2:14 the gman balloon is the first prop Tommy spawns
2) at 5:11 the guy did jump off the building but you can see him in the foreground. Also the characters models constantly change everytime the scene switches maybe hinting that Tommy doesn't remember the faces of the people around him or himself
3) at 7:40 a black version of the gman balloon appears for a split second behind the wife and at 7:48 you can see the same black balloon in the window for a single frame. At the end the wife is replaced by the mossman balloon but coloured black. So this could mean that the gman balloon represents Tommy and the mossman balloon represents his wife
4) at 7:53 if you couldn't tell the text says "I can't remember where I put my keys"
5) at 8:01 Tommy's wife disappears as the scene changes
6) at 12:04 the wife's text is coloured gray instead of being black (not really a big deal but just something to point out)
7) 12:19 isn't it a bit odd that the "friend" just happened to have a bit of meat to pacify the tiger after Tommy fell into the water?
everytime i hear this song, it hurts me mentally. also with the fact that the old man has memory problems in this video makes it even more depressing. im gonna go watch some memes after this.

I get that it's a reference to the Caretaker, but having a guy who's 65 (born in 1956, a teen in the 70s) claiming that a 1930s song is his favorite is just dumb. It makes Gramps less of a character and more a mishmash of "old timey" tropes.
Honestly, this GMod ARG is the scariest. It's not a spoopy shadow figure barely visible in the background and countable pixels, but a story of a man with dementia, told through videos made in Garry's Mod. The story is shown partially, you know what's going on, but It's not said directly. There's no scarier genre than reality

You know it's not an actual old guy playing because he looks with the mouse and moves at the same time; everyone knows that when old people play videogames they always stop moving, slowly turn to look where they want to go, and only then start walking again.
i dont know if its the video quality but in the first part when he is walking just before he stops I can see some weird thing swinging around for 2 seconds before disapearing behind the building

honestly iceberg sorta things are great but it really seems like theyre all either great or decent at best, really depends on the person researching and reading it and how much the creators know what an iceberg is or should be
There’s two channels I found called GmodGuy2006 and gmodnick06 archives. They both are pretty similar to gmod9fan with one video even doing the concept of crashing a server. They were both made on the same day though and might have ties to each other.

Ironically, if the protagonist is meant to be 65 in 2021, they'd be born in 1956. Assuming that their musical tastes developed in their teens - a survey showed that our musical tastes peak in our teen years - then they'd find what music they like the most in the late Sixties or early Seventies. That would be stuff like the Beatles, the Doors, Monkees, Rolling Stones, etc. Al Bowlly - who was sampled by the Caretaker in Everywhere at the End of Time - was a musician who made the bulk of his music in the 40s - the Gaming Gramps character wouldn't even be born when Al Bowlly's music was most popular, so it doesn't make much sense that he would put it in his videos.
It really sucks how much Everywhere at the End of Time has been overused to cheaply shoehorn dementia into media. As Corin said in another comment, not every old person listened to that music, and using EATEOT as a way to show "look guys, this person has dementia!" is cheap and lazy.
Also, the 'no signal' colour bars is even more overused - why would that show in a digital video?

A lot of people get their music tastes from their parents, I was born in the 2000's but most of the music I listen to I'd from the 70's to 90's because that's what my father showed me when I was growing up. So it isn't too strange for someone born in the 50's to enjoy music from decades before them.
But yeah, everywhere at the end of time is very overused

A lot of people, and presumably the creator, weren’t very big fans of the ARG, considering how awful it is. But he’s now gone on to make SurvivorOfAll, which is a much better ARG.
I don't know why, but this is the first Arg to make me feel kind of uncomfortable

Okay, I liked the idea and I found it quite original from living ragdolls and goofy shadow guys, but I was then made quickly disappointed by the use of Heartaches, really wished the creator could've been original with it instead of using the funny dementia song
Speaking of Gmod Args, have you heard about Gunslingerpro 2009?
Unlike the other Gmod Args, the channel of Gunslingerpro2009 focuses on the player/owner of the channel making either Machinima-style videos or Tutorial videos on Gmod. The main difference is that, instead of Half-Life 2 models, the player uses Team Fortress 2 models for his videos.
However, that is when the normalcy ends, because after the first video, that's when things start to take a sinister and ominous turn for the worst.
As it is revealed that the TF2 ragdolls are alive and that they are afraid of the player.
I won't say anything else aside from the fact that Gunslingerpro2009 stands out from the rest of the Gmod ARGs due to how unique it is, and how it incorporates the "show, don't tell" narrative into its videos.
This is something that you should definitely check out for yourself.

The version of heartaches they use is actually a fan version that slowly goes in and out of heartaches and the version of heartaches in The Caretaker, I personally think it made it feel more cheesy but I digress

The weird thing is, I remember finding the Gaming Gramps channel linked in a UA-cam comment chain around the time the first videos were uploaded. “Tommy” replied to someone saying something like “Hi guys, my name is Tommy, I’m 65 and I spend my time making Garry’s Mod videos” and added a link to his channel. I had no idea it was an ARG, I thought it was just an old man making GMod videos for fun.
That's because it isn't an ARG; there's no gameplay.

The best gmod ARG I've seen so far is gunslinger pro because of the originality of the story and the details of the video (the use of kinect for more realistic animation is really creative)

Classic GM Videos and GunslingerPro are the best ARGS. Classic GM has an spooky feeling,but GunslingerPro lets you know that something is wrong(sorry for my bad eng)

Personally, I think they should have stuck with the initial "something happened irl while I was recording" idea, instead of this. Maybe they could've even used Gmod chat to communicate, like typing "Hello youtube, my grandson showed me this game" etc to talk to the audience, since there's no way he'd know how to use camera and pose tools. Then, as the videos progress, you could have him start to forget things like what key opens chat, accidentally opening team chat instead, or maybe even console, and just resorting to typing in that instead, with the constant "unknown command" responding back to everything he says, only further adding to the sense of confusion being implied irl, until he's forgotten how to even launch the game, and decides to just communicate via notepad instead. Still wouldn't explain how he'd manage to record and upload the videos, but it'd sure as hell make more sense than randomly inserting split-second creepy images every now and then.

i had an idea for an ARG once that was more about the meta real life happenings of a brother uploading his older brothers old youtube videos post mortem and slowly uncovering his declining mental state and the reasons behind it, but its honestly really hard to make a story like that thats both immersive and engaging. like, theres a lot that goes into it and a lot will get missed before people start realizing its an ARG. like for example, there was supposed to be a part where the older brother makes a gmod video to celebrate his 21st birthday, then laments in the description about being unable to drink due to medication(sorta as a way to subtly narrow down what problems this guy has that need medicating), but all of that would be wasted effort if someone doesnt even bother to read the description. tho with my idea i was kinda backed into a corner where the videos at the start had to be completely normal gmod videos with a believable level of polish for some depressed 20 year old to have made back in roughly 2010 or 2011.
