    Hi Damian. Always amazes me that this great location doesn't get as busy with photographers as somewhere like Perch Rock. I know the parking's not as good and there's a short walk but it's equally as picturesque. Also great for both sunrise and sunset at this time of year. It's always interesting to hear your thoughts on composition and see the results. That was cracking sky - you got some gorgeous colour in your images. Those reflections look great. Glad you got your reward for persevering with this location ! Many thanks for sharing this very enjoyable video.

    One of your best ones yet, Damien. The ones on top of the dunes worked really well to emphasise the lighthouse even though it was very small. My sense of humour as well. Cheers

    Awesome video Damian. Love the colours in the sky. You certainly were the 3rd time lucky. The dune shot works well giving a sense of scale to the area. I can understand why people straighten the lighthouse, but if it is meant to be on an angle then I say leave as it in real life. Thanks for sharing!!!

    • @Drumimages
      @Drumimages  6 років тому

      Cheers Tim. It does look odd when you have a straight horizon and a leaning lighthouse and the desire is to straighten it, but the people who know the place would know!

      Mike, thanks. It is about an hour for me. It is a great place, but I was a bit taken aback by the amount of rubbish left on the beach.

    • @MikeHardisty
      @MikeHardisty 6 років тому +1

      We've been complaining all along that stretch of coast about the amount of rubbish left behind each day and want more pro-active enforcement of littering by the council. There used to be a clean-up squad who would visit early morning in the summer months but I don't know if that still happens.

    Hey Damian, great video, really enjoyed watching this as I suspect i'm now on the same path as you, repeat attempts to get something decent from a location I have visited before perhaps there something about Talacre :) Really enjoyed your varied selection of images from the location and the different vantage points, I think there is something for me to learn right there. you were treated to some superb colours at 09:10, unfortunately my visit on saturday for sunrise really didn't go to plan and the conditions were challenging for a variety of reasons. Some late morning sunlight probably saved the adventure for me. Managed to produce a vlog. So perhaps all ways not lost after all. - -The issue I think I'm going to have is it was first time lucky for me and all future visits will be sadly lacking in either conditions or my own abilities.

    • @Drumimages
      @Drumimages  4 роки тому +1

      Thanks Geoff - can't complain about first time lucky! :) I know what you mean though, there's so many other place to go, do you want to go back to the same place if you think you've already got peak image!

      @@Drumimages repeats visits are fine if the location is quick to get too I suppose. I live in landlocked Worcester and its 2 hours in most directions before I get any sense of wilderness etc. Could always revisit the local duck pond ;)

    Hi Damian! Excellent vlog as usual. As a videographer/cinematographer, I would have to fill in a certain space of time with various angles of shots to accompany some narrative of some sort. That would mean that I would get up high, close and very, very low. Why not try a very close up shot with only part of the lighthouse in shot to contrast with the sky? Or even, make a deal of the shadows left in the footprints in the mud as part of your foreground. Of course, I loved the photos you took and thought that the dunes were an excellent addition. On a separate note, I'm likely going to be home next spring - would love to meet up. If we can, I'll bring my Sony PXW-FS7 or at least my PXW-FS5! Let's do something!

    • @Drumimages

    Another great vlog Damian. I really like the perspective from above on the dunes. The Golden sunlight on the grass is beautiful. Would you consider using a telephoto lens from there to make the lighthouse a bit more prominent?
    I have a question about a technique you use. In live view I see that you lock focus on a subject then reposition the sensor to take an exposure reading. How do you lock in the focus and still have the ability to move the sensor? I use Canon and I don’t think I can do this. Third time lucky-well done!

    • @Drumimages
      @Drumimages  6 років тому

      Thanks Jeff - I wanted the sense of the lighthouse being small in the landscape,so didn't use a longer lens.
      I switch the lens to auto focus and depress the shutter until focus locks, then switch the manual focus and that allows me to move the meter box. What lens are you using, it should have a switch to select manual or autofocus.

    • @jeffogden6060
      @jeffogden6060 6 років тому +1

      Damian Waters photography Thanks Damian. Yes, my lenses do have an AF switch. I didn't notice that you switched it off as you do it quite seamlessly. I generally zoom in, then focus-- either manually or AF then switch off. I think I need to return to 1x magnification before I can regain the exposure box. I'll have to try it. Looking forward to your next vlog!

    Hey Damian. I'd like to ask a question for which there probably isn't a good answer. I often wonder how my post processing time compares to others. The main reason is that wonder about the capture from a full frame camera compared to crop sensor and the initial quality of the image. My suspicion is that a full frame camera provides an initial raw image that requires less time post processing that an APSC camera would. I do realize that the objective is to "get it right in camera" to the degree possible and by doing that, less processing is needed. For me to get similar results to yours from the dunes, I would probably need to bracket and exposure blend. I suspect a full frame camera with greater dynamic range would produce a good image from a single frame. So my question is for shots like those with the dunes, beach and lighthouse, any guess as to how much time you spent editing? Also, was that a single frame?

    • @Drumimages
      @Drumimages  6 років тому

      Thanks Philip, I’d estimate the dune images I probably spent a couple of minutes on. They only really needed some dust spots removing and a little bit of exposure balancing, the lighthouse was a bit brighter than I wanted, so I toned it down a bit. But the reason for that is probably because the scene is actually quite balance overall anyway. The grass and dunes were nicely lit by the sun and that gave an fairly even light across the whole image.
