I feel that the next step in opera is probably Alban Berg’s Wozzeck. Mozart went in a direction that was very difficult to follow. L'enregistrement le plus étonnant que je n'ai jamais entendu ! Un réel
enchantement. Sans prétention et en toute humilité, je peux vous
assurer que je connais cette œuvre dans son intégralité ayant eu le
privilège d'interpréter aussi bien le rôle de Don Giovanni, celui de son
valet, Leporello, mais aussi le rôle du Commandeur, dans différentes
Productions (dont celle de Maurice Béjart à La Monnaie de Bruxelles) et
de connaitre tous les plus brillants enregistrements de ce
Chef d’œuvre absolu. Et bien, à travers cette interprétation
magistrale de Theodor Currentzis, j'ai redécouvert Don Giovanni, revenu
des Enfers. Dorénavant on pourra dire Don Giovanni d'avant Currentzis
et Don Giovanni, de l'après Currentzis ! Mention spéciale et
admirative pour les voix merveilleuses des Interprètes d'une
intelligence confondante. Amis du Lyrique et spécialement de Mozart, ne

There's actually more humor and irony than darkness, so it's not a 'dark dream'. It if was a dark dream the opera would have concluded with Don Giovanni being dragged down to hell, but it doesn't. You have the concluding scene with the characters sort of missing Don Giovanni and the excitement he brought to their lives. That isn't 'dark', it's ironic and funny.
There are two versions of ending.
Actually the whole play shows people chasing and willing to kill a sinful man. And at the end a ghost drags him to hell. There is also humor and irony but the main subject is quite dark.
Me fascina este don Giovanni por sentir la fuerza primera que Tirso imprimió al drama. «Estamos hablando de una comedia negra; en ella hay un ansia de muerte, una cierta líbido, como el que siente vértigo y no se acerca al balcón porque sabe que si se acerca mucho quizá el morbo le pueda llevar a saltar…» (Teodor Currentzis). En la versión de Currentzis pervive un hondo sentido de lo que fue el burlador de Tirso, toreándose a sí mismo más por vivir al extremo en el deseo que por maldad: «Vivo en vos, si en el mar muero. Ya perdí todo el recelo que me pudiera anegar, pues del infierno del mar salgo a vuestro claro cielo. Un espantoso huracán dio con mi nave al través, para arrojarme a esos pies, que abrigo y puerto me dan, y en vuestro divino oriente renazco, y no hay que espantar, pues veis que hay de amar a mar una letra solamente» (don juan/ Tirso). Cual personaje de la tragedia clásica, don Juan obedece a la ley suprema de su líbido, hasta sucumbir al desafío mortal, víctima del vértigo que aquella impone: «¡Válgame Dios! Todo el cuerpo se ha bañado de un sudor helado, y en las entrañas se me ha helado el corazón. Un aliento respiraba, organizando la voz tan frío, que parecía infernal respiración. Cuando me tomó la mano de suerte me la abrasó, que un infierno parecía más que no vital calor. Pero todas son ideas que da a la imaginación el temor; y temer muertos es más villano temor. Si un cuerpo con alma noble, con potencias y razón, y con ira, no se teme, ¿quién cuerpos muertos temió?» (don juan/ Tirso). ¡GRANDIOSO! Este es el Mozart que amo.

What is he adding? Why is he important? What is he creating? I don't think Mozart would be telling this man to do certain things, for all we know Mozart played this better than this man. Mozart would be creating amazing new music to make money..

Teodor is different and all of his work can immediately be distinguished. I don't know why is the hatred against him... For me, Don Giovanni is so boring that only he can make it worth something :) And yes - it is obvious that when presenting he is there for the show, not to conduct - this is actually bragging how well he has done his work.

If Mozart could listen to this. He would deeply despise this perfume designer. Especially for his ideas about Don Giovanni as everybody hero, and Ottavio as insignificant petty man. To say these words means to be very confused about musical dramaturgy of this opera and ideas invested in its libretto. That undoubted fact that the main character sings beautiful music doesn’t mean by standards of the Eighteenth c. that he is good character by any meaning, just that Mozart was genius trying to leave strong impression on every character he intertwined in complex libretto of this opera. I hope, this “maestro” doesn’t turn Donna Anna in petty little insignificant slut.
Besides that, the orchestra as always with this conductor sounds heavy, overly loud, and this awful primitive dynamic without any involvement of nuances and other subtle work with orchestra sound...Static and uniformity without any movement and care of sophisticated and special details in music, both orchestral and vocal, which Mozart was so famous for.
I’m so sorry that many people will get THE first impression of this incomparable masterpiece (who listens classics nowadays?) from the mediocre the best, and ridiculous to say it honest, performance of this conductor with dubious if not doubtful educational background.
For me it becomes clearer and clearer with each performance I stumbled upon in internet, that we are dealing with not-so-rare form of gigantic narcissism in music became known due to petty stunts aiming at stirring attention to his persona.
Trust me as the person who lives in classic music since early age, got solid and long education in it in one of finest educational institutions for longer then Mr K. (At least, I can really present proper and real credentials with SaintPetersburg Conservatory unlike him where I’ve studied and then worked as assistant professor). There is nothing in him worthy of careful analysis and so much attention. If we have all this exaltation it means that classic music in general is in notable decline.

1) If Mozart were still alive, I think it far more likely that he would be charmed by the countless thousands of different performances by different orchestras and opera houses and chamber ensembles of his music centuries after his death, and I doubt he would be too upset if there was one Currentzis after having already heard a Karajan or a Bohm or a Furtwangler.
2) Hero was perhaps the wrong word, more fitting would be “protagonist” for Don Giovanni. That said, he is definitely more interesting than Don Ottavio, which is the point you missed.
3) Even notwithstanding how vindictive the wording “little insignificant slut” is, he is a conductor and an interpreter, meaning he will not deviate from Mozart’s score and Da Ponte’s libretto. He couldn’t change her character if he wanted to, he neither wrote her lines nor is acting out her part.
4) There are a million reasons why the classics are reaching fewer and fewer young people, but I can assure you that the attitude you have taken up here is FAR more harmful than any one recording could ever be in cultivating a young, appreciative audience.
5) Currentzis has literally conducted the Berlin Philharmonic, arguably the greatest orchestra on the planet. Whatever arbitrary academic credentials you are trying to lord over him are rather moot considering he actually has a musical contribution to consider and appreciate, whereas you have none.
Side note: Don Giovanni is not Opera Buffa, it was billed as a Dramma Giocoso (a hybrid of comedy and drama). The titular character is literally dragged to Hell by demons, this is Don Giovanni, not Le Nozze di Figaro.

What he wears is the least of my concerns. After all, when conducting an opera, his back is to the audience, so it can't been seen.
This vest is a historical piece from the national uniform of the Greek combatant of the revolution of 1821. He honours his roots and the struggles of the Greeks for independence and is obviously a symbolic piece. You see, my friend, it is not stupid at all as you said. Ιt's like calling the Scottish kilt stupid! before you criticize something so bad, have the ability to learn first.
