  • Josh Gates: "Entering That Cave Was The Worst Decision Of My Life!"
In 1695, Captain Avery, a famous pirate, pulled off a big heist by capturing a Mughal ship, the ‘Ganj-i-Sawai,’ as it was returning pilgrims from the Muslim Hajj. The pirates not only tortured but also killed all the ship’s crew and 600 passengers. Led by Avery, they then made off with gold and silver, including thousands of other coins, said to be worth between 200,000 and 600,000 British pounds, the equivalent of between $40 million and $130 million in today's money. After the heist, Avery disappeared a few years later, and nobody knew where he had gone.
A few Arabian silver coins found in New England might be the only clues left from one of the most famous pirate treasure attacks in history. These coins and shipwreck debris might be the last pieces of evidence of the existence of a very famous pirate and his loot. Because Josh knows that pirates used Cornwall as a possible place to hide their treasure, he and his team from the show "Expedition Unknown" go to Cornwall.
