    the reason why demi re-recorded 10 old songs as rock versions is because they got incredibly tired of singing them as pop songs, and even stopped performing some of them for years. demi said in recent interviews that re-recording the songs as rock versions made them fall back into love with their older songs in a way that they haven't felt since they were first in the studio recording them.
    in my opinion, the entire 'REVAMPED' album outdoes all the original songs for me because as a lovatic i know how demi has said that their label forced them to become a hyper-feminine popstar after they started out in pop-punk. demi said they were put into leotards and high heels, told to make pop music and do intense choreography from a young age and kinda stuck with it as they grew up, but it wasn't until they watched their friends 'Dead Sara' perform in concert that demi realized they missed making those types of songs and wanted to go back to their pop-punk roots. then came their 2022 album 'HOLY FVCK' which was fully rock. they then recorded the 'REVAMPED' album with their old songs and a few new ones, like their song from earlier this year "SWINE", and another song from earlier this year on the Scream 6 soundtrack "STILL ALIVE".
    they're working on a new album, but "REVAMPED" was made for demi to feel more comfortable performing the songs, and also a love letter to the fans who have stuck around since their debut. to me the rock versions feel so much more like DEMI, especially skyscraper (rock version) and don't forget (rock version) but i get why you're not immediately attracted by the thought of it based off of this performance

    i saw demi on a live chat recently and she said she’s taking vocal lessons. I personally think her tone in the low/mid region might sound shaky as she’s working on a new muscle placement for her vocals in general (and i say this based on the notes she’s been hitting lately being higher than she has ever done before, so that takes a little placement work to be done well). my favorite part on this performance was the last “you and I” ad lib in cool for the summer, where she did a glissando all the way down and even added a vibrato in a closed vowel sound in such a high note. I think she’s improving, but as its a process we might listen to some shaky sounds until it gets “embodied” enough. But personally I’m loving to see Demi trying new sounds and higher notes 😊

    • @ZoeStibiVocalCoach
      @ZoeStibiVocalCoach  Рік тому +9

      That is so cool! I figured she was taking lessons, she sounds much cleaner atm than she ever did. It sounds much less yelly. Loving her new sound though. Thank you for such a detailed comment! ;)

    • @TB317
      @TB317 Рік тому +2

      Yes! It definitely seems like she's done some placement work and made some changes because these belts are incomprehensibly high and very clear and PHRASED which is so impressive. Her technique seems much healthier now and the results show. I do agree that the midrange is a little shaky in parts and they seem to struggle a bit with pitch here but I think that's due in part to the arrangement,and also part in her working "backward" so to speak in adjusting placement from the top of her range, down.

    • @nathanbosworth5362
      @nathanbosworth5362 3 місяці тому

      Yes I agree, I love that she's still open to vocal lessons even though she is one the most talented and strongest powerhouse voices of our generation. Her more recent Give Your Heart A Break she went a whole octave higher on the highest belt note than she ever did before, it was so clean and clear that it almost sounded like her voice was fading away because she went so high. I read she can sing 4-5 octaves which is nearly Whitneh Houston range. Love her voice more than anything.

    I don't think she was screaming those notes like she's yelling like a normal yell without technique. She's mixing it with still much chest voice but headier than she used to. Those were very impressive G5s in Cool For The Summer and it's actually a good song that's being turned to rock version.

  • @restavrattor

    In the early years of her music career, there was more rock in her voice. Including the highest notes. I hope she comes to this point again. Perhaps the pop performance restructured her vocal technique. But damn she's amazing.

      @@ZoeStibiVocalCoachIt doesnt make the singer, but it definitely helps when they have been solidly improving over the years. And her range isnt the only thing thats improved, its the vibrato, the mixing technique, all things she considers and puts work into. She even plays multiple instruments live while singing and still has agility and ease hitting notes (which is strange because in the vmas she has pitch issues while just standing there, maybe an in ear problem)

    Def enjoying the rock versions of her pop songs. The rock versions came about because when in tour for Holy Fvck, demi needed to combine a setlist of pop songs and rock songs from the new album, and it didnt mesh well, so they redid all of their pop songs that they performed so the setlist would be more cohesive LIVE. Then they produced it in the studio because fans LOVED the rock versions, and demi even attempted higher notes and lower notes in the new rock versions so we were all clamoring for it. I think the vocals being more messy and rock was exactly what demi did at the ending for cool for the summer by going for those belts over the guitar (which imo sound awesome, even if theyre not technically the best). I listen to artists like system of a down, so to hear her go back to her roots of rock was such a gift. Also to hear her start belting melodically over the guitars is giving beyonce, rina sawayama, and just made for a awesome sound.

    It's sad that Demi has hearing impairment because of her od and that the VMA'S messed her up by lowering her mic and in top of that was super nervous.
    I don't know if it's possible but if so, she should keep on re educate her hearing because it's so sad that she can't hear rightfully, she almost never had issues with that earlier without sound engineer problem 😒

    I've seen so much praise for this performance, and while I think it's good, as someone who watches all the Demi content that UA-cam shows me, she's killed it last year so many times...but her voice wasn't very strong here, seemed thin and tired compared to other performances, and she struggled at points for sure. Demi has a history of over practicing as well, so I wondered if that was the case due to it being a big performance. To people who haven't watched tons of their other performances in the last year, this probably does sound great and impressive (I've watched other reactions to this and have read lots of comments), but as a Lovatic I kind of cringe because their voice didn't sound as healthy and stable as in other ones. I think the best of last year was the July 4th concert, starts with a W I think. There definitely was more of a yelly sound here, but that also could be intended,too.
    I love all the rock versions. Rockvato was always my favorite. I'm more of a rock person. One thing I don't think I saw mentioned is that redoing the pop songs also was to make them more consistent while performing the new rock music with a live band.

    I do get what you mean about them writing new songs (and they did bc HOLY FVCK) BUT Demi’s original direction for all of their music was Rock. Their label at the time wouldn’t allow them to do it bc they were a Disney kid and they didn’t think it would sell. It felt right for them to re-record these songs as rock versions bc originally they were supposed to be that. I’m loving it as someone who’s been a lovatic since Camp Rock/ Don’t Forget Album (even before then bc I watched them on Barney but obvs didn’t know it was them)

    She’s not screaming. You can definitely not like the tone, but to call it screaming is just scientifically innaccurate.
    Demi consistently sings in that register with that tone at G5 and above. All the way up to B5. That’s literally impossible to do while screaming. You’d destroy your voice in an hour. The fact that she can do it consistently at every show, and for hours within each show, demonstrably proves she’s not screaming
