That is true, I just don’t understand the relevance to the comment on an aftermarket radio install video. PS: this unit is for sale if you are looking at significantly discounted
@ I am not sure you fully understand the context. I understand what this is as I purchased it and made the video. Lol. When I referred to the oem GPS, I was referring to the GPS antennae. This runs independent of the oem gps software via whatever app you like, or you can still get into the OEM GPS app and use intouch if you like as well.
I installed mine based on SquareWheels video. Since I couldn't find the GPS adapter I decided to use the GPS antenna. Which looses it's signal too often when build in behind the unit (and out of sight 🙂). So I found your video when searching for a solution. I'll open up everything again and fix that cable this weekend. Lol to think how close I was on my first try. I left the radio settings on Europe though since you are also helping Europeans with their Infiniti's with this video! Thanks. Quick question. In my first week of usage I couldn't find a way to change the home screen of the unit. May be add some other widgets or something. Did you happen to do that?
Thank you for stopping by and glad you found the video useful. I am not sure, but his car may be a base with no nav. I have those antennas on other cars for aftermarket gps, and they need to see light. I usually run them up to the corner of the dash somewhere by the windshield. I have not figured out any of the splash screen or home screen stuff either. I never really spent any time trying to figure it out to be honest as we use it as a CarPlay device
I found the original GPS cable and connected my Aucar on it. Navigation works much better now. I found that if I change "some" setting from classic to modern I get a different launcher that let's me add widgets and stuff. Might try the carplay too someday as I am still tweaking my unit.
please reply** at first, thank you for that great video My question is, after a few weeks or months of using it is it starts lagging Or is it lagging in any way
Is there a link? I searched it up on Ali express and all I see is one for 150 which seems like a scam because it is significantly cheaper then the one you have
Thanks for watching. You will be pleased to hear that you have MORE adjustability with the onboard EQ that actually makes the Bose more than tolerable to listen to. I have not tweaked too much, but the presets have been a pretty great change. One day when I can sit out in the car for awhile, I will tweak it to my Liking.
My use case my be a little small, but overall it’s pretty decent with quarks. I solely use this device as a CarPlay device from my phone. I found after I purchased and tested that this device supports wireless CarPlay only. There is zero operation with this device and plugging a phone in which is a bummer sometimes. Few minor glitches here and there, but all decently small thus far.
Yes, you need a SIM card from your carrier if you wish to run onboard lte instead of hotspot or tethering. You can do this at any time. It’s just like swapping sims to phones. Now you can remove the sim from your phone instead, but I can’t see a valid use case for that personally
@@PMPerformanceI tried with my mechanic. With advanced obd device. It shows the mistake, but you cannot delete it. I guess it is because of the safety reasons.

Not at all. These are all Chinese made. Tesla was apparently the first to adopt a super huge screen in a car. So someone dubbed large screens as “Tesla screens”
Excellent video. I have not purchased a unit yet as I am still taking in information to make sure I know all the plusses and minuses. I am very much interested in knowing what you learn after using the unit for several weeks. I look forward to watching your future video describing what you learned. I have many questions still (e.g. how it interfaces with my phone (hotspot needed?), SIMM card?, internet data access, steering wheel phone and music controls, siris availability, hands off phone/text interaction).
I can answer some of this now: Steering wheel controls and all other controls I found work like stock except the center console dial. That on default is a volume button now for some reason. I did not test lte, but I did test with my phone as a hotspot and worked well. CarPlay works well for the most part. I usually picks up on its own within like 15-30 seconds of the car starting. If you break that process by hitting the home button it can then be a pain for it to launch. When it doesn’t launch, again it’s a pain. My alpine is the same way though, so I think it is just a caveat of Wireless CarPlay. I am sure wired would work better. Hotspot or lte is only needed if you Want the true tablet experience. Or where if you tether from your phone you are using your phone via a huge screen instead of it being a standalone. Hands off text we use CarPlay and Siri. So that works great. If using the tablet itself, there is a voice assistant locally, but I have not had much luck yet in the couple times I tried tinkering with it. I have not tested Sirius xm as of yet because the oem xm antennas are terrible and drop frequently, so I cancelled my membership in this car
@@PMPerformance Thank you so much for the quick reply!!! Is it necessary to use the phone as a hotspot? If the phone is connected to the device via bluetooth, how is the experience different? What is the SIMM cable for that you did not install and the two other internet/wifi cables? I assume these are not needed if you pair your phone with the MK6, right? In some videos I've seen a piggyback cable that had to be connected to the steering wheel for the controls to work. Does the MK6 have these cables, yet the phone, voice response button, and song advance buttons still work?
@@billwhite7551 the lte antennas and lte card holder are if you want to use the tablet standalone and connected to the internet. I can’t justify $15 a month for another line, so I didn’t connect it, knowing I will just use CarPlay. No special connectors needed for the steering controls. The voice button is only mapped to google voice. Not to Siri. You may be able to creatively remap at a later time, but everytime I tried it, Google voice setup screen came up. Otherwise the buttons all work otherwise
Yes, Android is the only open source OS that even makes this possible. As much as I hate to admit it, without Android, we would not have anything nearly as cool tech wise that we do nowadays.
I think I showed this on the first video maybe during the initial test. It bugs out a bit if you use the camera button. If you go in reverse though, it always works, but the camera button has made the view goofy on me a few times
@@PMPerformance thanks for the response. The lines don’t show up in reverse or just using the camera app. I was wondering if there is some kind of config that needs to be done to get them to show up.
@@thetryhards2434 my pleasure man. I help when I can. So there is an area in the settings for the backup lines. If memory serves me it’s in the main settings like where you set for lhd or rhd and the car type
Not at all. The camera quality cannot change. But the picture size blown up that is a 720p image can give you the impression it’s worse. The frame of the image appears the same size to me, so it’s the same poor quality it’s always been. It does come with a new HD camera though for the rear if you Choose to use it
I am not sure why you would think I would have an activation code for your unit? I would reach out to the manufacturer to ask what is trying to be activated and where to get the code.
So my center console screens got messed up and now it just turns on and turns off on its own it never stays on anymore .. if i buy one of these tesla screen will it work or no?
If your top screen is problematic, likely not. That is your DCU and controls a fair amount of things to my understanding. If it is just the physical screen an issue and your cameras and hvac and all that stuff still works, then it is possible I guess. I just can’t garuntee it. What I realized after installing is this Tesla screen is just a piggyback / pretty overlay to the existing system that the DCU controls.
@@PMPerformance yeah the screen camera and all that stuff still works but for some reason the screens never stay on , it keeps on resetting and i been thinking about just switching for one of these but i didn’t know they just go i top of the screen like that
There is a possibility it may work. That’s a tough one to try for $1k-1200 though. I would say if your audio and hvac and cameras are unaffected when the screens go goofy, your chance may be pretty positive though
@@Fly-mg8we yeah i ended up buying a used factory screen from eBay cuz the tesla screen Audio wouldn’t work for some reason due the oem display screen resetting everything 2 minutes

So far this thing is pretty slick. Quite the learning curve as it is Android but it’s cool. Few quarks and features like Doug Demuro would say. Lol. I will probably do a follow up video showing some lessons learned
Hmmmm, only thing I can think is if the volume is turned down on your phone maybe. I have found just in general with Bluetooth communications, that your phone also controls volume, where when plugged in it doesn’t. So if you turn your phone down for like notifications with the side button, that affects the sound output for Bluetooth notifications/music as well
Great Video!! I was the complainer and my husband installed the Mark 6 this weekend. My unit did not come with a camera, can you give me information on the camera so I can purchase one? Thanks!
I am glad you enjoyed the video and I am sure my wife is glad she isn’t the only complainer. Hahaah. The camera is a generic camera not needed if you have a backup camera. This is likely a 1080p camera though opposed to what is on the car now. My car has 360* so it didn’t make sense to swap one. You can buy these generic cameras anywhere. Amazon for example for probably $20. They are all standard like rca connection.
Thanks, but delivery guy was an idiot. Would you attempt to hand deliver something to someone’s car if you saw them in the car with it turned on? Or would you do your job as normal and deliver on the porch?
@basiclightskin1312 you cannot use Chinese SIM cards. You need to grab a sim from your carrier and activate and plug in. It’s just like adding cellular to a phone or tablet
One of my biggest concerns is longevity. How does anyone know how long these will last before they crap out or start acting like a 3-year-old android phone all slow and what not?
And that is why I made the comments about Android, because we all know the truth. If it means anything, this thing reports as a pixel 3xlI think I saw on some Mac tables on my network. Either the manufacturer stole the identifier, or this is a legit pixel3 xl if that makes you feel better. So hardware wise, it’s probably ok. Software wise, my guess is we won’t ever see a firmware update, but I could be wrong
Android bugginess? I don't know what android phone you use but I've never had any business on an android device and I switched to them from Apple when the galaxy s7 came out. Don't say it's buggy just because you are used to iOS. It's just different.
@@PMPerformance I work in tech as well. In that aspect pretty much all devices are buggy and some how are able to do things that isn't supposed to happen.
@@trsskater do you currently own this unit or similar? My main issue is bad code. Yes it happens on all kinds of things, but generic 3rd party device from China tend to be worse.
@@PMPerformance I don't own this device. But from managing all the cellphone and laptops for my company even with what should be good code has random issues that occur to only 1 out of the 5000 employees we have.
@trsskater laptops and phones can be quite different. Enter the world of IOT support, things get interesting there. I cannot even keep track of how many different nonsense Android things I have encountered over the years. One that comes to mind is Symbol/Zebra scanners. I felt like a total idiot because I could not get one to connect to corporate wifi. I called support and they asked what Country I had the device set to. I confirmed US and they said it would not work and to change to some other country. Low and behold that allowed the device to connect! Makes no sense. Android seems to be particular with wanting all the specific WiFi encryption and security tabs manually populated as well, where everything else just auto negotiates and connects by selecting the said and adding the proper password. This device can be buggy. There are a number of oddities with the hvac turning things on and off depending on function I have never noticed on oem. If my defroster is on, the climate control switches from synced to individual. If you turn off the blower, the seat heater symbols grey out like they are off, but they are still on. Wireless CarPlay can be a hassle sometimes. Mostly when you swap between Bluetooth devices. No matter what you do, the solution is to shut the car off and turn it back on and pray that it connects. It is mostly good, and quite livable but there are “Android oddities” as I like to call them. It’s just rushed code really. Android is not my favorite. I have owned and supported since its inception, so I can speak decently intelligently on the matter. While I do not favor it, I realize it has opened the doors for many cool things and tech and IOT simply would not exist without it.
Because he was an idiot. Why would you come to someone’s car to deliver a package. Just throw it on the porch and be on your way. This is a constant aggravation because if my garage doors are open they go in my garage and place packages and I cannot find them. I had one driver put one on the far side of my house by my boat once 30’ down on the outside of my porch in the grass. So yes I get annoyed when my delivery drivers try to get creative Glad out of the 20+ minute video that is all you got from it.

My main concern with using the OEM GPS, is that the map doesn’t update from the time the vehicle was manufactured.
That is true, I just don’t understand the relevance to the comment on an aftermarket radio install video.

@@PMPerformancewell this is more than just a radio… @ the 15:35 mark you start talking about hooking the unit up to the OEM GPS.
@@Cinema.Carlos Yes the OEM GPS *antenna* not the OEM Navigation application. You seem to have the two confused.
Does it still work well thinking bout gettin one any problems?
Works pretty well. Some limitations, but no real complaints

I solely use this device as a CarPlay device from my phone. I found after I purchased and tested that this device supports wireless CarPlay only.
There is zero operation with this device and plugging a phone in which is a bummer sometimes.

@josephcardenas3060 delay to start or delay of music?
Yes it takes a min or so to connect, but no delay of audio I have ever noticed.
Is Google maps is downloaded for online use?
Yes. You just need to either hotspot your phone, or use a SIM card to use it online.
Do you have to order a new SIM card? Does this Have to be done before install if you want to have cellular service on it in instead of hotspot?
@@timq9425 you can just preside the sim holder and add the sim whenever you decide you want to use it.

Now you can remove the sim from your phone instead, but I can’t see a valid use case for that personally

Just a little curious, why does everybody call this the Tesla screen? Does Tesla make this?
Not at all. These are all Chinese made.
Tesla was apparently the first to adopt a super huge screen in a car. So someone dubbed large screens as “Tesla screens”
What is your final score for the unit from 1 to 10?
For my needs….. 8 is fair
I can answer some of this now:
Steering wheel controls and all other controls I found work like stock except the center console dial.
Hotspot or lte is only needed if you
Want the true tablet experience.

I work in tech for a living. I said what I said ;)
It’s not like I do not have day 1 experience with Android and use Android based devices daily.
Why you act like that towards the delivery driver? Lol You got issues bud
So yes I get annoyed when my delivery drivers try to get creative
