Love the views the negotiator has, he doesn't only want to save the hostages, he wanted to save the hostage-taker. Really a fresh perspective when it comes a hostage scenario.

I live in San Juan City and know Paray or Kuya Arch personally since I go to Greenhills frequently since I was raised in that city. Kuya Arch was just infuriated about him getting fired due to complaints made by people who visit the mall.
During the time he got fired while his financial situation was bad to summarize it here it is:
    - Has a wife (His wife is pregnant during that time)
    - Child
    - If I remember he was in debt too
So there's no reason for him to be fired like that just because of "some" complaints. That's why most of the people who sympathized with him were people from the area (SJC), specifically West Crame which is literally beside the mall. And his team leader kuya Cagais who wasn't mentioned in the video but you know him if you're from Crame wasn't mad at all in fact he got fired even though he helped diffuse the situation.
One of the hostages was also my relative and she told me Kuya Arch wasn't scary at all in fact he was kind to the hostages, and the fact that the hostage that was interviewed at the end only cried due to shock and fear, and in the end sympathized with Kuya Arch because she knew his situation. And when the retired police BGEN said it was never their intention to "eliminate" Kuya Arch and had no SWAT personnel in the vicinity except for the ones who attempted to apprehend him. Well, first things first, the area has a rooftop surrounding the place where Kuya Arch talked to the media, and my cousin who was on-scene (not the hostage) saw SWAT snipers positioned and ready to shoot Kuya Arch if he pulls the gun on his waist. And when Kuya Arch was brought to prison let me inform you all that after a few days/weeks Kuya Arch's "CHILD" died because he was unable to pay for the hospital bills.
The fact that they lack the background and history of the hostage taker is crazy. And to inform you all he's still in San Juan Prison and his trial is being held in Pasig which takes so long. Anyways, if sources online say he was 40 during the hostage-taking, first of all, he ain't that old during the hostage-taking he was still 32, now Kuya Arch should be 35. He should still have 3-4 years in Prison.
Thanks for informing yourself by reading this entire thing I made what @SJ-fz3hr also commented is true and 100% factual.

It’s sad that the corruption is real. Do you know what the complaints about him that got him fired? I don’t think his intentions were to kill hostages or he would’ve killed one or two. His intentions was to publicly expose and shame the government and his security company. That being said, Gofundme should’ve been started by the Phillipino people to help him. His child died in the hospital is all around sad.

I worked as a guard in one of the most successful mall chains and I can testify kung gaano ka liit ang tingin ng mga client sa mga guard. Halos walang day off kasi walang tao kadalasan once or twice a month lang our duty is 12 hour duty. Kailangan mong pumasok 30 minutes early UNPAID for the discussion na paulit ulit naman cyempre sasabihin nila na agency dapat namin ang sumagot doon but get this evey time na dumarating daily time record namin na AUTOMATED Hindi kasama yung 30minutes.
Kaya sana yung mga mayayamang tao dyan please just try to be nice sa mga guard kasi at the end of the day mayayaman parin naman kayo ehh.

I feel what the hostage taker was going through. My husband was a former security guard and unfair and unjust practices really happens inside the security agency. Example: Delayed Salary, No Overtime Pay and Too many overtime work etc. tapos alisin sa work kung ayaw sundin gusto ng supervisor na super demanding.
Very wrong ginawa Niya but that Action shows how injustice can push a person to do wrong. Hopefully, that's an eye opener for security agencies. And hoping every now and then agencies would be monitored.

What he did is wrong, morally and legally but let this be a STRONG reminder to employers. You are managing people not machines. You have to be a leader and not a boss. Mahirap isantabi ang sarili bago ang iba pero bilang supervisor or manager, ikaw ang bridge between the company and your people. You have to make sure that good communication is there. On every corporate decision, hindi lahat tatanggapin yun. It’s a blend of accommodating, compassion and decisive. Also, you have to be just and maintain integrity. Remember, you also leave a legacy sa mga tao mo. Mahirap yung may disgruntled employee ka dahil hindi ka naging just and nawala ang integrity mo.

But, what he said about his backstory really drove home the point that many guards like him are paid starvation wages by security agencies. they are paid minimum salaries. The only people who should have been involved were the negotiator and few few experienced operatives to gather information from escapees. I can't really blame the frustration that people here in the Philippines feel.
I have friends who were supposed to receive a covid bonus because they worked for a certain hospital and they were supposed to get it last year (2022) but here's what happened.
They received only half of the bonus in the middle of the year but it was deducted because of "additional expenses".
The other half? They're still waiting until now and it's going to be 2024 in 2 days.
It's literally survival of the fittest here in the Philippines.
Me? I don't work for anyone anymore. I work for myself. It's hard, but at least I don't have to pretend like I like my boss and supervisors and pretend like they're such amazing people.

Sad to see that a person was pushed to his limits and did what he did because how our society works. Don't get me wrong, Paray should still be liable on what he did. But, our system/policies are made by humans, and it should be in favor of the wellness and well-being of people. However, this is not the case and that pushed Paray to do this and after all he did, nothing has changed.
My uncles are security guards, and they would work 12 hours per shift and if their buddy can't go to work they'll be covering that shift too. Imagine security guards in the Philippines are holding guns, but they lack proper rest and sleep and on top of that they are underpaid and most often contractuals.

I worked as a security guard for 10 years and I've witness and experience myself how poorly we are treated by the agency and the company that we are serving. Here in the Philippines, as a security guard, we rarely get respect from people that we are protecting, and most are annoyed with the security protocols we are implementing. Only few people appreciate the work and effort we put to it that's why I resigned and got a new career.

    - the negotiations that calmed Alchie down were mostly thanks to the hostages inside. In her opinion the police and mayor just prolonged the situation.
    - the bosses that publicly apologized werent fired
    - the mall’s security agency was fired, all guard were replaced.
    - Alchie asked for Jollibee for the hostages, but were only given bread from mercury (store next to the exit). Then police had jollibee after 😂

also it's not a good idea to always give in sa mga demand ng hostage-taker as it will only make him more demanding, the officers need to maintain a control in the situation even when they have to lie just to think that they gave him what he asked for.

The Greenhills area (GH Mall, V-Mall, Promenade, and Shoppesville) is like having Sim Lim, Bugis, Funan, and Plaza Singapura crammed into 16 hectares. Compared to the clusterfuck of 2010 in Luneta, this was much better handled.
The problem with Luneta was that way too many people wanted to handle the situation their way: The idiot Mayor of Manila who used to be the chief of Police and acted as if he’s still running the Police, the media at a time when they empowered themselves to broadcast everything to everyone including the perpetrator who saw everything on the bus TV, the Vice Mayor of Manila who had no business being there but decided to pull strings to get some demands of the perpetrator met, and the Police themselves who should be running the negotiations but were relegated to spectators behind politicians and the media.
For Greenhills, there was just breaking news in the morning … no news coverage throughout the entire day… and it ended with most people forgetting that it actually happened. It also helped that the San Juan Mayor is a young, first timer with no intention of looking like a hero.

i remembered the time when the media broadcasts the position of the SWAT snipers to the hostage taker, when I saw on TV that they've broadcasted the snipers I just face palmed thinking this shit's going to blow up real bad, the current chief of police, the mayor and all their underlings have the gall to go to a posh resto because "it's time to have lunch, our fatasses are tired because our brain is 20% smaller than normal". the police strike team at that time doesn't even consider the bus' structure, where to enter and where to ambush, they tried breaking the glass and throw a smoke grenade and miss the hole like a moron, probably due to panic because the gunman started executing everyone on the bus when he saw on the news his brother and son getting dragged like an animal

I think Raffy should not blame the main negotiator during the luneta bus incident, its mostly the fault of the media broadcasting on real time, the swat position while the hostage taker watch in the bus tv that agitated him the more. The media should have a consensus on the proper way to handle reporting during hostage crisis to help rather than escalate tension.

In this case, the next hostage taker now knows that there will be a lot of cops in civilian clothes around him no matter what the negotiators say. I think, these negotiators and police men just betrayed the trust of the next hostage takers. They just made the life of the next negotiator harder.
It was clear that the hostage taker was calm and was ready to surrender to face the consequences of his actions but some police men are not willing to let go of their opportunity to make name for themselves even if it takes inappropriate action.

Very good job Mr Mayor and General Yebra (Ret). In the US, all police departments have trained hostage negotiators at the US FBI Academy. I hope more will receive this specialized training in the Philippines. In addition, please issue body cameras and body armor protection to all of your PNP. God Bless all of the victims 🙏

This so sooo crooked! The Negotiator,SHOULD NOT HAVE BEEN DEMOTED for the luneta hostage event! He cannot control what the hostage taker would have done. Even if you gove EVERYTHING the hostage taker wants, there is ABSOLUTELY NO GUARANTEE he will do what the people on the other side of that line wants!!!

I do agree with you but that's just how it is, you have the most critical role even though you're not the one who fcked up you're still going to be on the chopping block. responsibilities go up when you take huge risk jobs like these. just think of a new recruit fcking up his job and you're his supervisor, his fck ups is your fck ups.

I don’t think the guys intent was to kill any hostages. His intent was to expose the corruption of his security company. If he hadn’t done this publicly, nobody would know how the security officers go through and the hardships. He was in a lot of pain and it was the only way he will be heard. That saddest part is his colleagues understood where he’s coming from and can’t speak out due to retaliation.

    • @Xynic48

The hostage taker in the luneta hostage crisis also didnt have any intention to harm in the beginning. In fact, he assured the hostages at first that he is just doing this so his voice will be heard. The hostages thought they will be released soon and they can still do some shopping. But because it was handled badly, the wost case scenario happened.
