No. In order to change costumes, you must highlight the character you intend to use and press the Start button, which will bring up the costume selection box. Now, press start again on either costume 1 or 2 to get the corresponding alternative color.
I've seen Baraka and Sektor hit me with pretty sick combos that nearly depleted half my life. There's also Noob when you fight him in the cathedral level. He makes aggressive combos that don't let fight back.

Angie2343 I didn't know another one was coming out. Honestly I haven't watched cable in a looooooooonng time so I'm kind of out of the loop on upcoming shows.
He is in this version of Mortal Kombat. A few of the characters, including Raiden, Baraka, and Mileena, have been stripped of those awesome kombos and overall kickass move sets that made them fierce fighters. But at least on this game, you can make up your own kombos :)
