Holy cow. I was assigned to the testing of the Sgt York at Ft Bliss in 1980-1981... Saw it firing. Needed a secret clearance just to get on the range.

@@JavierMaldonado_n2jkw What'd the inside of the look like then?

    • @JavierMaldonado_n2jkw
      @JavierMaldonado_n2jkw 3 роки тому +3

@@halo64654 It was very futuristic. The center screen had great display. I was inside a German Gephardt an, to me, the icons in the Sgt York were easy to understand.
In my opinion, it was great for SHORAD. The secret proximity round was (is) lethal. 40mm BOFORS are in use today in all kinds of Naval applications.
In my humble opinion, the demise of this weapon system had in part to do with the chassis (M48) and the political climate of the time. In addition, SHORAD Air Defence was going through a lot of changes. Many systems came out in short order. The Army had choices, most of them greater than a slow running M48 based unit. The units it was designed to protect could run circles around it (M1 Abrams and Bradley Fighting Vehicle).

Wow I was a test mechanic on these vehicles on nightshift. Built them in Lake forest Ca. Then we field tested them off Ortega Hwy in San Juan Capistrano. They were really fun to drive. Wish I knew where it us. Really brings back memories.

That is amazing. I almost forgot all about the Sgt. York. I was in the Army back in the 80's when the big scandal hit about this thing being a colossal failure and how tests of the vehicles fire control system were faked and the other bad things we heard about it. I am surprised there are actually some of them left around. Thanks for posting this.

The tracked flatbed in between the two 2.5-ton trucks is an M-548. It is based on the M-113 armored personnel carrier. It is exactly what it looks like: a tracked "truck" that can go where wheeled trucks would get bogged down. They got used for all sorts of things, mostly combat resupply but also carried launchers for anti-personnel mines. There's a few still used in Reserve or Guard units but for the most part I *think* they've been removed from active duty service.

the truck you come to at 10:15 is a 5 ton troop carrier. the one before that one I haven't seen before but I think I also saw a deuce and a half troop carrier earlier. Most of the big trucks come from '42 & up. Leftover surplus from ww2 & Korea. I actually drove a '42 deuce and a half at Camp Casey, Korea back in '97. Right up until flames started shooting out from under the steering wheel! Loved the Army and I think everyone should do two years minimum to not only serve your country but your fellow man. The hell with the politicians, you fight for your neighbors, family-based friends!

Pneumonia and death within a week. Be careful wear a dust mask in close spaces like mines, cabins, old vehicles. Watch for symptoms . I usually thump and rattle shade cover before entering things in the desert (vehicles , brush, etc) so the snakes can rattle back. But all that makes it living. Enjoy!

I have just come back from an amazing two weeks holiday in Corfu and there were loads of abandoned places out there but wasn't able to film any of them as had no room on my phone. The yellow sticker inside the 2nd vehicle says Red River Army Depot, which is outside of Texarkana, Texas in the very northeast corner of the state. Red River is the border between Texas and Oklahoma. That vehicle traveled a long way to end up in the desert in Nevada. I also find it amusing that among the instructions on the door is a considerable amount of info about crossing bodies of water. I doubt they got much practice doing that, unless they were training during flash floods or something... ha!

+Explore With Us, The tracked cargo vehicle looks like a M548 tracked supply vehicle. The two military trucks look like M35a2 2 1/2 ton cargo trucks. I know that another poster indicated that they looked more like 5-ton M939s. While this is possibility, I think you'd seem smaller against them than you are. Unless, of course, you are like 6'2" or so.

Very nice explore and sometimes they build a small series off tank ore truck for special operations ore just for testing off the model.

EWU, You Answered My Previous Vid Question About Posted locations, Yes the Loosers Who Do Vandalism & Even theft.. & Litter, too. & A Suggestion, If you Don't Do so Already, Take Powerfull field Glasses along & Always chech the Long Distance perimeter 2C If Your Being Watched. If you Stumble on Some Ones Secret (Illegal Stash Of What Ever?) Stash, rememeber Theres a lot Of Square miles out there you Could End Up Under! Yes I Know Highly Unlikely, But ALL It takes is ONCE 2B Once Too Many. & Yes the military leaves The Over-Tax-Paid Equipment Any Flippen Place it wants, it Never Gives itself a ticket for littering & They don't metal recycle(Remelt To ReUse) The metal Vehicles Either they just raise our taxes & Make new stuff... Your taxes People!!!! & Go Serach ALL The wasted BILLIONS They Indeed Waste.

It's unfortunate the Sgt. York was never put into mass production. We really do need a new SPAAG, relying on grunts with stingers or patriot systems really wouldn't cut it against an organized air or helo assault. We do have the linebacker, but not enough of them, plus the bushmaster is designed for use against infantry, not aircraft, and is not radar guided like the Sgt York.

It looks like you're walking around on a desert practice live fire range near Twenty Nine Palms.. This area is used as a practice range for trainee fighter pilots training out of
Mira mar, Ca. The old junk your climbing around on are targets.. The area is also used
to train Marine combat infantry units that are stationed at Twenty Nine Palms....

Don't let history die. Photograph the area and the vehicles. Send them to National Geographic. Tell them your story

You guys better be careful with going close to those abandoned military vehicles. You might not be aware that there might be a live fire on going and one of those vehicles might be a target and too bad if you are near it!!! BOOM!!!

EndofUSA it's not a live fire range. Those are few miles down the road.

I live in Arab Saudi and there is abandoned U.F.O structure building which is unfinished cause of some reasons, one of them is they spotted weird figure in there and they closed it. One of the workers are one of my Dad's friend he was gonna work as a painter I recorded it while I was recording something else. If you are interested reply me.

Looks kind of like an aircraft gunnery range. If there is an Air Force or Army base around that might be what it is.
