This took forever to do - but I hope you find it enjoyable. You can speed up my talking if you don't need as long to view the photos by selecting 1.5x-2x speed on the UA-cam Player - or if there is a particular guitar you're interested in - here are the time stamps! (*, **, *** signify the coolest guitars/stories) The background audio is very quiet so you can listed to your favorite Pink Floyd tracks in a separate tab.

Aside from the guitars just consider what David Gilmour has done. He has spent his entire life entertaining us all with his mastery of the guitar and now he has sold the tools of his trade to make a better world for his children and their children. A truly noble gesture in a world which is becoming more selfish by the day.

It's a shame as he seems a very kind person but unfortunately is indeed a Marxist and atheist. Which means he believes in the Jewish Bolshevic derived politic which is responsible for tens of millions of Russian and Ukrainian Christian deaths not to mention the millions of others who have died under Marxism in China, Southeast Asia and South America. How he, or anyone else, gets past that is incomprehensible to me.

    • @mknewlan67

It was indeed a noble gesture, I just wish I could of helped his gesture by purchasing a couple of these, I’d of had to sell my house so I’ll drool from afar.

damn, lots of rich people who probably don't play at all paying crazy prices to get something Gilmore owned. Just crazy when you think that some of those is the average person's yearly salary X 20.

A lot of these guitars are so old they're becoming museum pieces so it's hard to say what deserves to keep getting played and what deserves to be kept for historic reasons but I dont like the fact that a bunch of football team owners pretty much bought some guitars because they were bored on a Saturday

Dave's got one of the best tones of any guitar player ever. There are very few players whose riffs make the hairs on the back of your neck prickle like some of his can & his riff on Comfortably Numb is still for me the best of all time. When I first wanted to learn how to play, that was the one, along with some of his other's, plus Jimmy Page & maybe Slash's that I most wanted to master. The guy truly merits his legendary status imho. Thanks for putting this together Austin man

    • @scottmantooth8785

if you want to hear an absolutely stunning cover of comfortably numb check out Jamie Dupuis who plays it on a harp guitar: ua-cam.com/video/YRSlwhlTPUE/v-deo.html
as well as many, many other covers that are completely transformed by his brilliant and talented transcription ...set aside a few hours to pick through these...you'll need them

You know it’s a real shame this amazing collection couldn’t be kept together as a set in a museum because it’s not only the story of David Gilmore’s life, it’s the story of the guitar itself. But I hope these guitars will find new lives and new owners who will love them- and who will play them.

    • @henrikpetersson3463

From 1990-94 I played in The Pretty Things with Phil May and Dick Taylor. Phil was loaned the white Steinberger so we could have it as a backup on tour. It sounded great BUT I found it hard not to play a B Barr chord when I thought I was on an A. No headstock was disorientating! It’s worth pointing out that it was used live with Kate Bush for a performance of Running Up That Hill for A Secret Policeman’s Ball show. I was told it was also used for Sorrow on MLOR album.

Thank you for taking the time to put all this information together and post in 1 very detailed video.
You are THE BEST. I've really been learning so much from your videos - which have helped me make some recent buying decisions. When will Gibson learn that guitars ARE NOT automobiles? Don't make so many variations in models from year to year with no real regard to the badges. We don't want the latest and greatest technology as a substitute for what they got right long ago. It's really a challenge to even know what you are buying anymore. A Les Paul Standard should be a Les Paul Standard. You've really helped make some sense out of all the changes over time. Thanks for all that you do!

You make a really good point. Gibson should maybe stick to recreating their classic instruments.
I agree, it's difficult to know what you're looking at when it's a modern Gibson, too many different models, options and flavors.
Keep it simple Gibson, long neck tenon, True ABR-1 Bridge and good woods, then get the quality control up to snuff.

I thought (as an Englishman) that "Jag-Wiiiiiirrrrrrrrre" was the best bit in the video
Trogly says it like "Jag-pause-Uh-Wiiiiiirrrrre" with the smphasis on the prolonged syllable "Wiiiiiiiirrrrre"
Whereas, in England, we say it (correctly) as "Jag-You-Are" but really fast, so it's like "Jag-U-Ar"
Never understood as to 'Why' the Americans can NEVER pronounce Jaguar properly (but it makes me laugh !

Trogly’s guitars. One of your finest videos to date. Awesome job. David Gilmore is one of my favorite guitar players of all time. Who inspired me to pick up a guitar in the first place. Early one was chuck Berry. I’ve always had a passion for the Fender guitar Stratocaster. Love Gibson Less Paul’s, and there acoustics. Always loved the Pink Floyd Band. Except for Roger Water’s. Was a total drag. Thanks for your video’s Trogly. Never miss one of your videos. Peace out.

Back in the mid 2000’s Phil Taylor authored a book chronicling the the mods done to Gilmour’s iconic black Strat. It was appropriately titled, The Black Strat. I believe it was released about the time Fender released its Gilmour signature model.
I don’t know if it represents an exhaustive history but, it’s a very detailed one at the least. Besides a literary telling, it’s also full of photos showing the guitar through the ages as well as images of receipts and invoices.
According to Taylor, Gilmour thought the book was “a daft idea” but, gave him his blessing to proceed with the project. I’m glad he did. I found it fascinating. Highly recommended for Gilmour fans. I believe however, it’s now out of print and finding an affordable copy might take some patience. The prices I found on Amazon are outrageously high
