    The coat that Washington wore during the Battle of Monongahela was on display at the Valley Forge National Monument Museum several years ago and may still be. It's full of bullet holes - truly remarkable that he could have survived without being wounded.

    Factoid......deserters from Washington's army crossed the Delaware earlier and warned the Hessians at Trenton in the year before this episode would have been in time. Because of the weather, the Hessians thought the deserters were nuts. After crossing the Delaware, taking all night to do so, Washington's army fell upon the Hessians who were caught completely off guard with most still in their quarters trying to keep warm from a storm that began on the previous day, Christmas Day, 1776.

    I was lucky enough to be visiting the Smithsonian Museum on the day they were re-displaying Washington's uniform and cloak which had just finished being refurbished. The worker was wearing white gloves and he turned to us on the rope line and said, "Do you want to see how close we came to losing (the revolution)?" Then he stuck his gloved fingers through two large musket ball holes in Washington's cloak.

  • @ATamandua
    @ATamandua 4 роки тому +40

    At the battle of Monongahela, future President Washington not only ended up with several bullet holes in his cloak, but also had a few horses shot out from under him. Plus, he was having to use his musket/bayonet to tip the rifles of his own men upward so that they wouldn't shoot each other, so chaotic was the battle. Indian sharpshooters, however, had several clear shots at GW. Not one of them met their intended mark.

    I notice this happened after he prayed earnestly. Now the Lord spoke to Samuel with the voice of Eli and to Jesus with Moses and Elijah present. Never ever look for the dead among the living, else like Saul you'll end up with a familiar spirit of death, a death messenger; but if you ever receive a vision, search or ask of what it thinks about the role for humanity and Jesus' triumph over darkness by His death and resurrection and wether He loved and saved the world fully on His part, and conquered darkness + satan... That question will tell you wether or not it's from God.

      Washington must be turning over in his grave knowing that a reality tv show star who is also a liar, a cheater, a racist, a criminal and a Russian, is sitting in the Oval Office. Hated by, not only most Americans, but by other countries as well. He has made America a laughing stock. If you watched anything other than Fox News, you'd know this.

    I have such visions myself, have been near death 17 times and died twice. I drowned at the age of 5 (1948) and killed myself by overdosing that stopped my heart (1969). Yet something or someone is watching over me and I was resuscitated both times after being in that other place. Who is it, what is it that protects me from dying? Some kind of guardian spirit or someone from another planet? Doctors are bewildered trying to treat me for things that are rare. Medicine that helps others have almost killed me because my body rejects it. I am at this time of posting this, fighting for my life. Why you ask, there is a defect in my heart that is so strange, it’s classified as very rare. It’s that rare, not many people have it. It will take a rare procedure to repair it if possible using microsurgery.
    Oh yeah, I used to live a few miles away from Valley Forge. So I visited many times and got the strangest chill, even during the summer. They have small cabins still there where the soldiers stayed that winter. Interesting place to visit, there’s even a beautiful chapel to visit.

    There is considerable historical detail in this episode. Lafayette is shown hobbling on a crutch. He had been wounded through the calf at the Battle of Brandywine Creek in September of that year before the Continental Army camped at Valley Forge.

    Most of this is based purely on myth. However, the part in which Washington is quoted saying he believed he was saved for a great mission in life following his extraordinary survival when he and the regiment he and Gen. Braddock were returning from Ft. Duquesne (what is now in fact Point Park in downtown Pittsburgh) is correct back. Of course, many people who have been snatched from certain death or have near-death experiences conclude they were saved for a purpose. In a case like Washington’s this can understandably be attributed, at least in part, to survivor’s guilt when so many others died.

    "Ancient Aliens" related this story. The Indian was said to have had green skin.
    It is based on a story in the 1880s from a long-lived survivor of Washington's retinue, and included references to visions of the country spreading across the continent, and the seeming prediction of the Civil War. Whether it was a true story or a myth to encourage the nation after the war, people can judge.
