With all the new development going ahead on the riverfront past Hamilton wharves, might the passenger line be extended to Pinkenbah? The lights and crossing gates at Kingsford Smith seem to be operating?
I believe it's on the books but after cross river rail I think Springfield to ipswich rail corridor is next... lots of development out that way and not enough infrastructure... I think one of the proposed plans is to extend the line to the terminal at pinkenba but its nit a priority atm, cross river rail and Ripley are atm and I also think there something planned for sunshine coast aswell.
It's so good that those lower quadrant semaphores around Ascot are still in situ. I have no idea if they even function anymore but they certainly look well maintained.
WHAT A TAKE BACK IN TIME used to travel this line back in the mid to late 60s , bus from REDCLIFFE TO SANDGATE TRAIN TO EAGLE JUNCTION THEN DOWN TO WHAT I THINK WAS MEEANDAH STN then walk to RQGC where i worked school holidays with CHARLIE EARP at the golf club , back in those days when GREG NORMAN was a kid
Awesome! Thanks for putting this up 👍. Shadowed the line by foot today, only got as far as the Heritage trail, as didn't want to venture onto formation. Track etc looks in good order ✔. Can see that's going to be a high development area with lots of freight potential. Great if the line could have an airport freight task to.
Looks like they trialed rigid overhead for. Short section free clay field. I think the line would be perfect as the back bone to a dlr style service connecting to the river front, port, and airport.
I heard the construction materials/supplies for the new train line stations are now going to be kept out at pinkenba so they're reopening the line to run the supllies in that way instead of trucking it all in.
Truly enjoyable vid. Thanks for posting… Do trains still go to Doomben?? Wasn’t there a branch line that used to go down to the wharves across KingsfordSmith drive?? And it also looks like it would have been double tracks for a lot of the start of the trip…. Love your work guys 👍👌❤️❤️
How do you get the section cars down to here, it doesnt look like how high rails have rubber tyres so can be driven down like a car, so did they have to be driven through the suburban network to Clayfield or are they trucked down and put onto the tracks somehow.
when will the line be open again, i remember having a school assembly about the talk of closing the line in 1993!! BTW, can we use it to extend to the cruise terminal by light rail, tram, etc???
Very enjoyable. I’d love to see this line reopen which a bus connection from Pinkenba to the Cruise Terminal.
Outstanding, thank you. Reminds me of the ARHS-Qld RM tour from 2002 when we went up to the end at the BP refinery, over to Gibson Island, etc.
Very enjoyable. I’d love to see this line reopen with a bus connection from Pinkenba to the Cruise Terminal.
Loving these videos

That branch isnt on this video, and has been dug up/disconnected. There is no crossing on KSD anymore.
Great video 👍

they have to be maintained as the line is still in regular use to doomben

Awesome video but I wanted to see the very end of the line or was that it? Haha
Pinkenba yard had a loop road around it and that was the route the cars took.

I'd guess on trailers behind road vehicles to be dropped onto the network where they are allowed to run
Possibly stored at Bowen hills/ Mayne?? 👍👌
A possible electric train depot may go in. Mmmmmmmm.
Reopening tge line and having a shuttle bus to the new cruise terminal is ano brainer and good for the environment.

The line is open to Doomben Monday to Saturday. no Sunday service, doubtful they'd spend the money on a light rail link. It'd be cheaper to run buses
