That was an interesting comparison with Sims. Whereas in Sims you largely can create your own narrative, Animal Crossing presents a ready-make cast and randomly assigns some of them for you to interact with. This means each player will naturally have a unique yet somewhat curated experience, leading to fun emergent narratives and unique relationships between players and the villagers. Always fun hearing when players have a villager they absolutely adore and spoil, whereas others may have villagers they just despise. Like you pointed out, the fact that the player has so little freedom goes a long way in making the world feel more immersive. Nice analysis!
