Thanks for that David very interesting, our local Fire Brigade supplies us with smoke alarms one down stairs and one up but the Carbon Monoxide we have to buy ourselves. I have three of the Kidde ones at the moment one in the kitchen one in the combi boiler room and one in the attic and the only time I have heard any of them is when I test them. I hope I never hear them until the batteries start to drop.

Nice test, thanks. I have had two of the el cheapest MC Cheapo ones and have found them to work ok over past 3 years. They sensed high levels and alerted us on two occasions now so very happy for the price
Get through batteries pretty quick though, but let you know well in advance that they are getting low.

From this we see you have a faithful old reliable generator...Seems all the new portable generators here in the US are now fitted with CO sensors / shut offs. Knowing these sensor cells are good for 10 years or less, and tending to use my generator far from repair shops, i tried to find out about spares or replacement and got nowhere. Ended up settling for a leftover old inventory model to avoid the ticking time bomb. Honda was very explicit about it being impossible to bypass the sensor but offered no hint that it would be replaceable or at what cost.
In summary, for the first 10 years a new generator will prevent you from posthumously attaining a Darwin award or testing CO detectors. From then on it won't run so can only hurt you if someone hits you over the head with it. Progress i think its called.

That's right, I remember seeing the new ones with the built in CO gauge. I'm sure someone will be able to come up with a workaround for the sensor. Maybe even one of us. :)

Did the Kidde alarm do anything? I have one on my boat but am not sure now if I should chuck it and get something better...?

If you have any doubt whatsoever about a CO alarm, replace it.

I didn't see it alarm. The thing is effectively a sealed box with a single tiny opening for the horn. I've always wondered how CO is supposed to get into the thing with no air vents.

Kidde still exists and is very popular in Canada... though it may not be the same company, it might just be a name leasing thing.

It still exists in the U.S. as well.

Interesting outcome I thought the X-Sense would have been a lot better as in more sensitive than it was so that one doesn't seem to be value for money at nearly £40.
I just checked my orders on Amazon and I bought the Fire Angel in December 2020 and it cost me £18.99 and now they are £43 that's quite a price rise, problem is my Fire Angel gave up the ghost after just 2 years it was beeping like the CO was high but the display was at zero even putting it outside didn't help so I had to stab it with a screwdriver to murder it😂

Holy shit. The first one I bought was £14. That's a hell of a jump.

Seems the X-sense took and X-cessively long time to do anything, a human could have fallen into their forever sleep by the time it woke up and smelled the COffee... :S
