Blueboy, 'The Joy of Living' @ Rough Trade East, London, 17.1.24

The new Sarah Records book, 'These Things Happen' was launched in London at Rough Trade East last week. We were treated to sets by Will of the Harvest Ministers, Heavenly and beloved Blueboy. I've been lucky to see Paul play Blueboy songs over the past decade but this was the first time with fellow band member Gemma and singing lead. Wow, her voice was incredible, so delicate yet strong and clear. They made a beautiful powerhouse duo.
I could have recorded the whole set if I'd had enough phone memory. It was gorgeous gem after gorgeous gem. I've got two songs and I'll record more at their May show in celebration of the album 'Unisex'.
This was their last song and it always makes my eyes prick with tears. And the frenetic guitar action on this one. Oh I can't wait to see them again and it will be with a band!
