This field is the ONLY nutritional approach that has actually felt TRUE, useful and made sense in my 50 years of fighting weight gain. It's great to be validated by good research into an area that has been completely neglected. Healing this essential function in our bodies could re-balance our relationship to food and alter how food production serves the human race.

Very nice presentation, I have gone throughout with this lecture and found this is very very interesting topic. Here I would like to ask a question about gut-brain axis, Will the bacteria may be able to treat Parkinson’s disease through gut-brain axis?
He mentions that parkinsons seems to start in the gut. It may be therefore that a very healthy gut prevents to a certain extent parkinsons or likely other diseases, as well as improves the immune system. I have started to make my own natto ((small)soybeans or other legumes fermented for 24 hours at 45°C in an InstantPot, with cheap chinese natto starter from Aliexpress, which works extremely well and easy) I have been eating a lot of it for a month now and my belly feels a lot better. It does seem that the Baccillus Subtillis in the natto works quite differently from other probiotic bacteria and to my impression may be more beneficial and important then the more known lactobaccili. Baccillus Subtilis does not create acid but creates a slimyness that may help to protect the gut lining. Also it creates vast amounts of vitamin K2, for improved immunity and prevention of arterosclerosis and osteoporosis (in conjunction with vitamin D). I'm very happy with this discovery. Also I am planning to start carefully with helminthic therapy, that is cultivating small amounts of american hookworm in the intestines. That would regulate the immunity, thereby preventing auto immune diseases as well as cytokine storms in cases such as Covid-19. It might be a better prevention for epidemics then the current vaccine strategy, that I am not at all against by the way. I suspect helminth therapy, as well as a very healthy microbiome in general, may be essential for the future of a healthy humanity. There is an interesting helminth therapy group on facebook, with experts and other users and patients.
@CH No. Quite right. This is why it is called 'holistic' medicine. It's like vitamins - many of them rely on _other_ vitamins to do their job. I always think of an old Native American Chief called Seatl - after whom the modern-day city of Seattle is named. He is credited with saying; 'Mankind has not woven The Web Of Life; we are but one thread within it. Whatever we do to the Web we do to ourselves. All Things are bound together - all things connect.'

Change your diet and you change your gut microbiome. There are many plant-based doctors who are teaching this as i am. I am noticing that people’s personality changes as they change their diet and increase the microbial diversity in their guts. Hope that helps.
When you look at a small piece of intestine, and you look at your neighbor -- are you amazed to see how much difference there is!? We know that’s worth billions years of organic chemical evolution.
Will eating dirt, natto, pickles, red wine, beans, or yogurt help people with depression get over their depression by improving gut bacteria? Any studies on this?
I have limited experience, I'm not (yet) an educated professional in this field, but I have learned that kefir milk introduces beneficial strains of bacteria and it is a sustainable colony once established. Consuming fiber from fruits and vegetables is helpful for the bacteria to thrive. You can find kefir milk at the grocery store and you can also order kefir grains to make your own. I've been dealing with the big D for many years, I started on kefir milk a week ago and I can tell already that I'm less prone to mood swings and more resilient against stress, I'm excited to see what a full four week course will do. I've also been exercising, using a light box on cloudy days, being proactive about socializing (mostly online with the current pandemic), meditating... I don't think there's ever a single solution, we are complex organisms and our problems are often complex, requiring a multi-pronged approach to addressing them effectively.
The sound quality of these university lectures is ATROCIOUS ! When are these supposedly bright people with an obvious desire to communicate going to learn to record from a mixing board and not from the ALWAYS reverberant room that makes every other word unintelligible.

Such an important lecture.
Excellent information!
Very nice presentation, I have gone throughout with this lecture and found this is very very interesting topic. Here I would like to ask a question about gut-brain axis, Will the bacteria may be able to treat Parkinson’s disease through gut-brain axis?
right at the end he describes how he believes any linear relationship of any one causal agent is unlikely. So no single cure all will work.
Pl go through this also. It says something related to your question.

Does the cleansing prior to a colonoscopy destroy all gut microbiome?
