Many years ago a friend and myself decided to buy "a big boat". I sailed a Contessa 26 at the time and they don't come much smaller. Ex charter was the answer. We sold our small yachts and scraped together a few pounds and off to Saint Maarten. We bought a very tired but sound Beneteau First 501. Being ex charter she had four en suite cabins, ideal for families. We brought her back to the UK, no the keel did not fall off. Many hours of hard work and a few more pounds and she gave us years of sailing both in the UK and the Med. Ok, back then the quality was just so so. The floors and joinery creeked but so what? If we could have afforded an Oyster or Swan we would have chosen one. At seventy now, I am glad we did what we did. Two generations got many years out of her. I still could not afford an Oyster.
That's an awesome story! 🙂
Nice story. These 'production' boats as they call them get some bad press, but not everyone can afford a Hans Christian etc. They are perfectly safe if you are sensible.
Not long ago a 34 ft yacht was small and pretty cramped inside. It's amazing how volumes have increased and the designs allow more free flowing movement inside. Nicely done ! Thanks for the tour Nick !
It's a pleasure!
I think the amazing thing about the Oceanis is that there are ones first put in the water in the late 80s/early 90s still happily cruising the waters today. Great tour Nick and great boats
That's a nice little monohull, and a pleasant change of pace. Thanks for the tout
Glad you liked it!
Thank you Nick for the sailing twist always enjoy your sailboat videos!!!
Glad you like them!
I love how all the boats Nick tours, from smallest to biggest, all have 8+ champaign flutes on them. I must be hanging around the wrong crowd, because all I've ever seen on my buddy's boats are sleeve of Solo cups. Enjoy seeing the sailboats!
🥂
I absolutely love boats that float!! They’re the best!! Seriously, nice bit of kit all up. I would love to go sailing one day for a few days and live it up on board! Nice job!
I don't know why but there's an elegance boat a sailing yacht that motor boats just can't match.
Thanks for the tour Nick.
Hi Nick, And yes Nick what you say a nice compact family sail boat with 3 sleeping cabins inside one head or the bigger head and 2 cabins also a need idear on the deck a great cockpit with a table and douvle steering wheels at the back looks all very nice Thank you Nick as always what a show
I'm glad that you enjoyed it 🙂
Great boat ,well equipped and good layout. Easy for a couple to sail and brilliant for weekend use.
Brilliant sailing yacht, with no non-sense solutions 🙂 Thanks for the tour 😊
Twice a year I charter an older 34' sailing boat out of Corfu and comparing it to this new Beneteau it is almost difficult to believe they are both 34'. Modern yacht designs give you so much space and i think that the two-cabin layout would probably be perfect on this boat.
Nice sailboat , great for long weekends or coastal trips. Thanks for uploading.
Thanks for watching!
🦘🇦🇺 Great tour thank you Nick. A very nice vessel, if you’re that way inclined. This girl was built for comfort not for speed. I do enjoy immensely, stablizers & vertical sailing rather than diagonal. 🙏
I'm glad you enjoyed it. I tend to favour comfort over speed, so all good. 😃
Lovely boat Nick, unfortunately I know nothing of sailing. I'd still go for the Nordhavn. Tuck myself away with a good book "beer" and enjoy my little ship.😃👍🏴
Fair enough!
Great boat for a nice weekend away, just the wind in your hair and the sound of water against the hull. Thanks for the tour!
Our pleasure!
Great start to the weekend, have a good one nick
Thanks, you too!
I absolutely love these boats. Another great tour. Thank you 🙏
You're very welcome!
Lovely yacht nick was surprised at room in side 3vcabins really nice
With a Bimini over the cockpit these make a great cruising boat for the Mediterranean. Completely understandable why they make such popular charter boats. And the Beneteaus are surprisingly hardy out there. Nice tour!
Great video, great yacht, excellent for families, love it. 🇦🇺 😊
Many thanks!
Great boat and tour, Nick! I like the short format videos you are producing lately but please don't stop the longer tours!
Stay tuned, got one of the longest ever coming soon! 😃
@@AQUAHOLICI'll look forward to it, Nick!
Another nice review, thank you, I hope you a getting over your recent emotional upsets. Good luck, Peter
Thank you 🙂
This was Maggies video to shine! So much airtime LOL. Thanks Nick that's a beautiful sailboat.
I'm glad that you enjoyed it 🙂
A very nice yacht, as always I love the interior they are always nice to look at and well laid out. Great tour Nick thank you.
My pleasure!
Nice little sailboat, I like that these Beneteaus are targetted towards actual people/buyers and not just the super wealthy - they seem to select the materials, gear and production quality to where it makes sailing doable and convenient while still not making their boats unseaworthy. This size is kind of an awkward middle ground that isn't for me (I'd rather something trailerable or else in the 40-47 ft range) but I like seeing how they adapt their layouts into the various sized hulls. Thanks for the tour!
I'm glad that you enjoyed it 🙂
Who is not wealthy and buying a 235k 34 foot sailboat?
@@VoltsAnBolts People that love sailing.
Hi Nick, a nice economical sail yacht. Sadly i still dont understand sailing 🥴 so all would be lost on me 😎 Cheers DougT
Quite amazing what you can get out of a 34’ yacht
Lovely boat nick and good video 👍👍👍👏👏👏⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Thank you!
Always an interesting video ❤ thanks Nick
My pleasure!
Oceanis make sturdy, family or four person boat. Not a racing sailboat but a comfortable with safety on mind. Not a sailboat person but I do like her.
Thanks for the share Nick.
My pleasure!!
I do love sail boats, I worked at beneteau boats in Marion south Carolina in the late 90s early 2000s ,I did deck hardware and built cockpit . Liked the job, didn't get paid worth a damn
What a great little boat!
Unusually, I prefer the 2 cabin option. Maybe you could spec the large locker as a “daughter’s boyfriend cabin”!
Superb tour as always.
My friend , does it come with a security package? Ty for your time. Brian
Looks amazing! Would that be suitable for a solo Atlantic crossing?
Lovely boat thank you nick
My pleasure!
Great tour and nice boat!
Thank you very much!
I once spent 3 weeks on a 23’ boat and only 2 of us. But, both being over 6’2” it was cramped and by the end of the trip it was like a prison cell. This however would have been soooo much better. Great layout on deck and below and an ideal size too. Thanks Nick, great tour as usual.
I'm glad that you enjoyed it 🙂
I know you posted the 51.1 review a while ago, but I was reading the specs on their website, and the displacement seemed really light, as on the even larger Oceanis yachts. Do they consider those to be blue water boats or coastal? The size would suggest blue water, but I’m not sure I’d trust such a light displacement boat on the high seas.
Great boat. Great video again
Glad you enjoyed it!
Good afternoon Nick
Good afternoon Michael
Not a fan of sailing yachts as having soup for lunch or trying to drink a wee dram in the Bay of Biscay would probably add to the laundry basket contents. Nah! Nordhavn for me ! But thanks Nick for sharing !
Always a pleasure. 🙂
Help? Does that mean you need to put the swim platform down to deploy the life raft? Any thoughts?
I am not rich but it’s possible that I could afford this. Close to my retirement. Got to learn to sail first but hey got to start some where.
How adorable! Very nautical as well. Thank you! 🍷
You are so welcome!
Nice boat
So Nick, when will we see you crewing on a one of these?
I'd like to try sailing again this year...
But is having just one bathroom really enough when you have that many people on board?
Easily resolved - buy a bigger boat. 😃
Please do a tour of Jeanneau 65
Good video. Thx v much
Is that a Dan Henry on your wrist, Nick?
Sure is! 🙂
Love the new watch Nick! What is it may I ask? ;)
It's a homage to the '80s Porsche Design Chronograph 1. I wanted the real thing buy haven't been able to find/afford one yet: danhenrywatches.com/products/1972-maverick-watch
@@AQUAHOLIC I’ve seen those Dan Henry’s before! They have some nice stuff! Nice work mate. Thank you for the reply. :)
@@AQUAHOLIC Bodie & Doyle watch from The Professionals ! 🙂
@@blackdoublezero YES!! Also Maverick's watch in Top Gun (and Top Gun Maverick), and I recently caught a glimpse of one in Beverly Hills Cop 2, one of the bad guys was wearing one. A stone cold classic and one day I shall have one.
Nick, any chance you might switch to sailing?
I like the idea but I don't have the time. I like to be able to get out and get somewhere, spend an afternoon at anchor (or whatever) and get back. Perhaps if I ever retire...
@@AQUAHOLIC I spent my teen years on center console fishing boats in Florida...I can't imagine dealing with everything that goes into sailing. lol
I always found sailing ship owners scary.
But being tied to the stove can stimulate the imagination. lol.
Easy, Tiger! 😄
Id like to see the other one.
Feel free! 🙂
Fine craft. Roomy, great for families or parties.
I still maintain sailboats are for people who cant manage the fuel dock. Oh well, more diesel for me.
BTW - I kid because my adult (?) son has a sailboat. Thanks for the video - everyone can stop laughing now - rant over...
You're very welcome!!
Those could make anyone want to learn and listen to Christopher Cross with the sun shining on their face.
Nice boat ...BUT..it's a sail boat that's too much hard work...😂..but really nice.could I soup it up with a turbo boosted engine... SSG
7:23 haha
Ordina PD1?
Sadly just a homage to. Maybe one day... danhenrywatches.com/products/1972-maverick-watch
Something that would be helpful would be to see you or someone else actually laying on the beds - they look too small to be two person.
I think there should always be 2 life rafts on a boat, because losing a boat is bad enough but being stuck in a life raft with the wife afterwards no thanks.
I’d be dirty if I got a new boat and the bloody door squeaked like that
Very nice 🫡
You're not compromising much with this boat. Well-used interior volume and a nice social cockpit area. I wouldn't ever buy a sailing yacht, but if I were in the market for one, Beneteau would be my first stop. Thanks for the tour, Nick ,
I'm glad that you enjoyed it 🙂
I think you have a very optimistic view of how much people actually sail. I don't know how it is in the UK, but in my part of the world, sailboats probably only sail half the time. Too much wind, too little wind, wind from the wrong direction, needing to charge the batteries, some of the "crew" don't like heeling over, and so on, and so on. Lots of people buy them without the slightest intent of ever sailing them, as you get the same living space for about 20-30 % of the money compared to a motor boat. Those people likely consider the sail to be emergency equipment.
100% true. I drive motor boat and in 99% of cases sails on sailboats are tucked in and they are crusing with engine
A family yikes😮 I could see that boat getting kind of tight with just 2 people on it let alone a family
Speaking as someone who used to spend a fortnight in the summer holidays cruising on the family Hurley 22 sailboat as a boy, with sister, both parents and a dog, I think it'll probably be alright... 😄
A have a soon-to-be brother in law who lived with his wife and two kids on a 30’ Catalina for a while when the kids were younger, and they still all say that they enjoyed that time in their life.
34th comment!
YES!!! 🥳
My first sailboat was a 8 Ft Jol.
I was 12 years old and ow boy what a fun i had with this boat.
After then i buy a 27 Ft Jol.
But i am lazy and a wooden boat has a lot maintenance.
So i buy motorboats sinds then.😂many thanks for the Tour Nick
