Vasily was the perfect vocalist for this one. He's experienced in everything from classical to heavy metal. As a drummer, I've covered this song many times over the past 45 years. Igor is the man.
tyvm for posting. to paraphrase your comment in the reaction, its like watching the video again for the first time. i get such enjoyment from their videos and its always cool to see a reaction video that lets me relive that moment. ☮❤🙏
This is a comment left on the Leonid & Friends website by the Idles of March. @TheIdesOfMarchOfficial @TheIdesOfMarchOfficial 3 years ago (edited) I just heard what is probably the best cover of our chestnut "Vehicle" that I've ever heard in my life! In fact, when I first heard this, I thought it was us! And then I looked at it and saw it was all these other people... It's a real homage to the Ides of March and the sound we created with "Vehicle." We couldn't be prouder that you chose this song. I have to tell you, the guitar solo (Sergey? Serge?) -- he's the only guitar player that's ever copped my lead note-for-note-perfect. The horn section is tight, Vasily is great (strange to hear a little of that accent, but that's just fine!) Anyway, congratulations, Leonid and Friends and Great God in Heaven, we love you! Jim Peterik and The Ides of March
The accuracy of these guys is breathtaking, really. Played sax, flute, and keys back in those days, and I really never realized what an impactful era the bigger bands and arrangements were setting. Enjoy listening with you.....again.
Love the passion in the music they make. Great skill and commitment to the piece they are crafting ..... God bless, Leonid & Friends .... wonderful job as always !!! GBjj
I've been mesmerized but the artistry of this band since they posted their first song on UA-cam. One thing I find consistent is that the man whose band carries his name is rarely featured in the video montages which tells me that he is a true leader, to give his bandmates the front and center attention rather than himself. The truly great ones are always humble.
As you obviously already know, the best leaders have alway NEVER been about self-aggrandizement but derive their joy, the wins from the pleasure of being allowed to play "leader" - in this case - of the band. True Level 5 leaders (See Jim Collins and his book Good to Great) are incredibly intelligent, strong individuals who when praised? Always say, "Well I just got lucky. I had a wonderful team backing me up! " They also eschew notoriety. Preferring to remain behind the scenes, essentially unseen.
If you look at the comments (about the 8th one down) you'll see a comment from The Ides of March Official YT channel - That's Jim Peterik's channel and he writes that this version is the best cover of "our chestnut Vehicle". In fact he thought it was them until he saw that the musicians were other people. He even praised Sergey's guitar playing - that Sergey was the first person ever to get his guitar solo down perfect note for note. That's pretty high praise when the leader of a band calls out any cover version. (l will say that the best cover bands often sound better than the actual group because they are trying to replicate the sound and reproduce the recording, whereas the original group is just playing.)
You will LOVE them live! They have a few different members now, Mikhail and Danhil on vocals and Constantine on guitar. I've seen them 3 times and I can't wait to go again! Watch them do After the love is gone and Got to get ya into my life from EWF and ANY of their Chicago covers! There's My old school from Steely Dan and Ksenia slays on Ain't nobody from Chaka Khan and Superstar from The Carpenters!
Thank you so much Jeff for getting to this morning. I'm looking forward for you to do "One fine day" . I'm trying to get them back to EUGENE OREGON. Ever since Brad played a song for me, I've been hooked and their biggest fan. You'll love the show. ❤.
In a way, this is better than the original. When The Ides of March recorded this, they were all quite young, either still in high school or just out, so the members (especially the horn players) just weren't as mature and polished as Leonid's players are.
Brilliant as always, Jeff. If you need another of their tracks to react try ‘Wishing You Were Here’. Leonid sings lead, but the harmonies are just amazing. Goose bump time!
If you haven't already checked it out, try Question 67&68. It's one of their earliest recordings. You'll enjoy it as much as you have everything so far.
Jeff, you are absolutely the best reactor to these guys! You get it as a musician. I just watched a horrid reaction and I had to come right over here to cleanse the palate!
Jeff, great analysis as always on this band. Leonid in his attention to detail had Vasily wearing the cowboy boots, that often adorned Jim Peterik's feet.
Among the comments on the original L&F video, there was that of one of the original members of 'Ides of March' (I think the guitarist). He wrote that he struggled to understand that it was a cover, and that he particularly appreciated the guitar lick, exactly note for note similar to his own... And naturally he was pleased with the performance.
That was Jim Peterik, the writer of this song. He is a founding member of the band "Survivor", and co-writer of "Eye of the Tiger" for the 1982 film "Rocky III".
Some people consider cover music as a band or artist lacking originality. Others consider cover music as a great form of flattery. Then there's Leonid & Friends...a musical experience that matches or often times exceeds there original counterparts, IMO. The first time I heard Leonid & Friends, I asked a co-worker which Chicago Album he was listening to. Incredible talent. Can't say enough about them and you will get to most of their work, I'm sure. Another "cover" band that's top notch is Foxes & Fossils. While they put a bit of their own spin on some songs, many are spot on. Check out their versions of "Carry On"...CSN cover and "Seven Bridges Road"...Eagles cover, just to mention a couple. A true testament to a "cover" band is praise from the original artists, as here which Ides of March. Crosby, Stills & Nash also praised F & F cover of Suite Judy Blue Eyes.
" Hey I'm the friendly stranger in the black sedan why don't you hop inside my car, I've got picture, candy........" I tried singing this to the girls in high school and i ended up getting a restraining order and kicked out of school
It is so nice, to find a reaction channel, we're the individuals doing the reactions of my generation. Glad to have found you. One band that I don't think you've covered yet, did I think you will enjoy, is a group by the name the Tower of Power, Especially a song called "Down to the Nightclub"
Look on Jeff's channel past reviews. Leonid did "So very hard to go" a true masterpiece, and TOP hit, and the review is syrup. Check it out. Great song to start every day with. So very strong. I love Leonid & Friends it's like being reborn into my teens.
This is the original Team that brought Leonid to the forefront. With lead guitar Sergey Kashirin. One of the first songs I saw them bring in the strings. Not sure why the changes. At first I was mad,. Sergey helped make the group for me. But I have grown to appreciate the changes. Forever a fan. I grew up a Chicago fan...I now have 2 Chicago periods and EWF etc., The carpenters all reborn. So majestic.
@@kens32052 Yes, Sergey (guitar) has a young family and career writing for movies and TV. Serge T (vocals) is in Ukraine and left the band at the beginning of the conflict. Vlad, keyboards, left on his own.
I know this comment isnt about vehicle...but wanted to let you know Jonas Kaufman is known the opera world as a bari-hunk. BTW I'd take a ride in leonids vehicle!
The problem is, this is studio quality, and when they go on the road they don't bring the orchestral instruments with them so it may be a different sound, but still quality.

Thank you sooooo much for explaining like I’ve never been able to…it’s like hearing these songs again for the first time. Ever since I found out about them a few years ago, I get such joy when I hear them.
I've listened to Leonids cover of this song so many times that Vasily's Russian accent seems perfectly normal to me now.
VEHICLE was one of the most energetic songs ever made. It last forever and it is so newly as it was created.
This man has the old school rocker voice amazing
Vasily was the perfect vocalist for this one. He's experienced in everything from classical to heavy metal. As a drummer, I've covered this song many times over the past 45 years. Igor is the man.
The singer used to be a border guard near Siberia. Never know where good things in life will take you.
Now that’s a cool story!
They’re always spot on with their vocals and instrumentation, love their music.
Trumpet excellence! Props to Andrey Zyl!
Bravo.
They are so darn good.
Wow! Just wow!
Vasily is a straight out, bad assed, rock star!

Right. The vocalist was made to cover this song. Music is so on target and tight, like always with these guys.

Amazing cover! Great reaction. :)
@2:40 when the keyboard Vlad Senchillo looks into the camera... and smiles. He's having a blast.

I completely agree, except I would call them a tribute band over being called a cover band!
Leonid picked out an amazing group of songs to have his band cover... All heavy with horns...!!!
Going to see them May 6th at Bijou in Knoxville Tn. Can not wait
