#44 David Little is one of the kindest people I have ever known. I take time out to visit him whenever time permits me. Man I love hearing the stories of old he tells about high school basketball.
Hmmm, well to bad he couldn't ball like Moses Malone because if Manley would of had Malone I guarantee they win the championship. And whatever happened to Cross after high School
Few teams played against defense that was on their side of court. As a freshman at Wheaton North we played At Lockport tourney. Their 1 3 1 trap wanted you to oass to a corner. You split trap or pass ball asap. In Jr high we had a 3 1 1 halfcourt trap. Same thing let them throw in conner or sude. For a bunch of white guys we beat the crap out of aurora kids. East was the team that played fullcourt press from the get go. They allowed you to inbound and counted on kids panickung. When trap comes split it or pass it. DONT PICK UP YOUR DRIBBLE!!! MAINE SOUTH.just kept the ball in motion and with 3 on 2 just get ball to midfle and dish. At Wheaton North in 78 A East aurora kid who was expelled from east. Played Lang 6,'8 240. Jt 6'3 170. Jt was 15 light him up 28pts. 15 boards 6 7 Asst. 4 5 blocks. If he played sr year at Wheaton. We easily would have gone to 8. He wanted to play with his East auror guys but didnt reLuze he would not play till last 5 games and tourney. Hardin avg 35ppg. But they lost not giving jt ball.
Yeah led after 1st quarter by 3 then Maine South ran them out of gym. I think Quincy was beatdown by the double overtime game against Benet academy. And it was 2nd game..They ran out of gas
Marvin Kapral , Big Joe Moore and Uncle Lamar Jefferson left the year before if Russell had developed a little faster Manley would've had back to back Championships. JS
@@rickykenny4257 I see but those are not the backboards the University of Illinois used for their basketball games and that’s where this game was played. So I guess my question should have been “why did they change the backboards for this and other high school games played there”? I wonder if it was an Illinois high school state rule for backboards to be shaped that way?

Wish I could find the 78-79' East Moline vs. East St Louis Lincoln Quarter Final earlier in the day
Russell Cross was a bad dude
That’s my nephew and yes he was💪🏾
Quincy should have won the State Title that year. They just played like crap against Maine South.

What BS calls. He dunk and was given a technical foul! He didn’t even come down from the dunk. Horrible officiating

Why the elementary school backboards?
That's how most backboards were shaped back then; including at my high school ( St.Micheal's )

@@zvbxThey did this until sometime in mid 80's. Would always swap out the rectangle backboards for the fan shaped ones for the state tournament.
I was wondering why they had half moon backboards at the University of Illinois
