Thank you very much! I was trying to read this Serbo-Croatian translation which is in fact great but to be honest it was very hard for me to understand Aristotle. What I find interesting is that Plato I think equated chance with necesessity in Laws! There he says, I believe that man is influenced by techne - his own skill, and by necessity and chance (which to me seemed to be equated together with God). Another very interesting thing is the relationship between End and Finality. Aristotle in Physics plays around with this double meaing of the word and says that's the reason why some people think that death is the real reason why we live. That's why Aristotle jokingly says that an old poet was rather puerile to say that the reason for every birth is death. I tend to agree with the poet (who unfortunately remained anonymous) - accepting death as the final cause is the only way for us to remain humans and not want to be these immortal gods - something Marvin Minsky loved to talk about as he saw no reason not to live 400 years or more.
On Substratum, I think the bronze of the statue is something that came to be, they made the bronze statue, the material exists because they mixed the copper and tin and what comes out is new and persists.
I placed this in a playlist I have dubbed "big brain plz explain" I read this book before I go to bed at night, it interest me, but it is hard to wrap my head around
@@chadahaagphilosophychannel7329 One thing i remember aside form the four causes is the idea that a things purpose is prior to its existence. Very underrated for sure. I'm actually surprised that Aristotle's works were not more predominant in terms of popularity because it's better than so much after it in my opinion.
Aristotle figured nothing about physics. Everything he proclaimed about physics is wrong. You want to heap praise on a true physics genius of ancient Greece? Have a look at Archimedes.
Does mathematical necessity really have no final cause? There is no action in the material sense but there is most surely a lot of action. I am not sure, but it seems like the Greeks would posit the good or beautiful as the final cause of Mathematical truths.
I always laugh when Aristotle is elevated to the level of a genius in physics. He was a complete idiot when it came to physics. everything he said about physics was wrong. He didn't believe in doing experiments to verify if anything he said about physics even made any sense.
Amazing! Much love Chad
Thank you from Colorado!!

Yea aristotle is underread largely due to his difficulty but its well worth the effort to work through his texts
It is kind of sad how Aristotle and figured some things while some people now even argue that the earth is flat.
The earth is flat(!)

mechanics isn't physics or natural philosophy (i.e. whether or not there are atoms)
