Dear Joost, this is a most timely presentation: One month ago (to the day), I contacted kaweco with an issue I had with a Vintage Sport - a 12/07 model that I was restoring; now, this is a piston filler, with a friction fit nib & feed; I had bought it pre-owned, but the seal within was worn. The CEO, Michael, kindly gifted me a replacement part from his personal collection (of which, I understand, he possesses over three thousand Kaweco pens); this was an unprecedented & very generous manouevre on his part; I should also mention his Personal assistant, Andrea, who facilitated the entire process - my grateful thanks go out to these two rather special individuals - without whom I would not have been able to complete the restoration, so thank you very much, Joost, Michael & Andrea for not only showing this video, but allowing me to publically demonstrate my gratitude. I have a number of Kaweco's, including an original '30's Dia, a Dia II, & several Sport issues from various eras. No doubt, ODE will have watched this - he has to be the most fervent of collector-users of this fine brand. Take care & stay safe, all, Best, Andrew :)
a long time ago when I was like 10 to 12 years old, I always came home from school with inky fingers because of the cheap pens school gave me, I also wasn't doing good at school and had no motivation nore concentration to get my focus on my homework. As my mother saw this and we visited our local bookstore my mother came up with a beautiful brass KaWeCo fountain pen and she bought it for me. I was in love with it and used it in school every single day, the thing gave me back so much motivation that I passed my tests with straight 10s. I still have and use my KaWeCo Brass Sport till this day, just as I will for the years to come
Kaweco one of my favorite brand. I have 3 kaweco fountain Pens which was purchased at Pen Corner Dubai. However kaweco not yet introduced ink window fountain pen if they introduced it I hope it's will appreciated.
They did! Take a look at some of their vintage "V" models. Eg. V11, V12, V16, V85, ... Ink window plus piston fillers. I wish they would release modern versions of these great pens.
Great video. I have two Kaweco's, a Sport and a Perkeo. They are a pleasure to write with. The quality of fountain pens is well known. However, the inks aren't so popular. They are underrated. I tried the royal blue cartridge that came with the Sport and was very impressed.
To summarise: Kaweco of today has nothing in common with the original Kaweco. Someone purchased the Brand name long after the company has folded. They don’t make any pens. Instead they are assembling the pens manufactured in four different countries (China?) and sell them under Kaweco brand.
That’s what I got out of the video too, all of the parts (except for the nibs) are made outside Germany and then shipped in and assembled in the factory?! This makes the “made in Germany” claims a bit deceptive…
Kaweco is for people who like the Vintage and the classic styles more, even though they also produce modern colors too. However, if you're like me, or you like journaling, or simply a good fountain pen, for every day use, the Kaweco Sport in Burgundy with Gold nib and clip, is the PERFECT way to get into the Kaweco world! They are addictive, so you've been warned! I was way more surprised and satisfied, than I thought I would, even though I had read similar critics and had already seen the craziness with the Kawecos allover the UA-cam!
Thank you for this! I had the good fortune to visit the factory store a few years ago. The staff person was very generous with her time and I am now a committed Kaweco fan. I have "penabled" many people with their products!
To be precise, we didn’t see how they are made. They only showed us the assembly. To see how pens are actually made they would have to travel to the faraway countries and visit the factories.
It is really inspirational how much individual attention goes into these pens ! I discovered the Kaweco Sport in 2009 at the Fine Art Museum of Vienna and gave never looked back ! Definitely my favourite brand !!!
I own 2 KAWECO Sport and I love them deeply. The nibs write so smooth like much more expensive pens do. A real pleasure. I always have a KAWECO Sport in my bag. The only downside is the MINI Converter, wich is useless. U have to refill it all the time, because its so tiny. A piston mechanism for the Sport would be great.
Thank you for sharing your experience with Kaweco. The converter has indeed not that much of an inkcapacity. Luckily Kaweco is working on a piston filler where this can be resolved!

I just bought a Sport but we can see the difference between Kaweco and Lamy. We see Lamy making much of their pens in house while Kaweco gets their parts made in at least four other places and has that very sad "Box made in Germany". That is the closest they could get to saying made in Germany. Other companies will say assembled in ... with foreign and domestic parts. At least the pens are designed by Germans, assembled by Germans, and shipped from Germany. Not bad for a company that has had several ownerships over a long history.
What’s wrong with made in China, you get what you pay for if you speak the language and know who you could trust, unlike eu countries who has such workers, who dare to demand payment, even when they produce Viscontis😂 but with fewer and fewer companies that could be trusted in the west, hopefully Lamy doesn’t lose their soul 😅 also, the made in … just mean the production cost in that country is the highest nowadays, so I get your point, and I truly want to know the name all 4 of those countries 😂

The parts are made outside of Germany from four different sources but just assembled in Germany so it’s not really 100 % made in Germany then.
That is correct
But the most important parts like the nib are made by „Bock“ in Germany. Also the Brass pens are completely made by a german foundry.
I love Kaweco!! I'm a big fan sinds a few weeks. I'm still looking for the Kaweco AL sport Explorer but I'm too late :( .....

The parts of the pens are created in four countries. None of them is China. However, The giftbox (the popular tin box) is made in China.
