I was wondering if you can answer this question, how would you add 99+1 on the Abacus? Going from left to right I can't figure it out but if I do it from right to left I can get it. I was taught to do it from left to right.
Since you are adding 1 which is a single digit number the question of from left to right or right to left does not arise as it is just a single digit number. Now let's see how to do it. Take 99 on your abacus ie all heavenly and Earthly beads in one and tens column are touching the answering bar. Done? Now to add one in ones column use big friends for that you need to add one Earthly bead in tens column and subtract 9 from ones column. (Check out my video on big friends if you are confused here.) assuming you understood this much. As we can not add one in tens column as well we have to use big friends again meaning add one in hundreds column and subtract 9 in tens column (and subtract 9 from ones column if not done previously). I hope this solves your query. I will try to make a video on this if you need.
