So glad to see how I’ve dressed for 18 years become a beloved, *known* aesthetic in 2023. This style is very easy to wear modestly and in a flowy style, so when I was a baby bat at 10 my Baptist Christian parents didn’t say much besides that I was dressing in a lot of dark colours. After a bit I told them I was a goth, but since I was modest they really didn’t care, and they like some of the music I listen to because it was what they listened to when they were young. This particular style is probably one of the easiest to start easing into goth fashion with.
Girl, you are one of my absolute favourite YT people 😃 I often rewatch your videos. They are so well researched and visually beautiful. I'm really loving some steampunk influence presently. Which of course fits with all of the goth, dark moody vibes with a twist. Thank you, Mariel. I love your work 😅🖤🩶💜
I feel seen. I am not your usual demographic but I have dressed like this for two decades +. I have seen a few of your uploads varying goth and woodland aesthetic. I named my Etsy collection as Legendcore from the 80s movie legend. So one half of my wardrobe is quite severe edgy black, no frills and silver understated moon jewellery, the other side is very toadcore. I thrift softer aesthetic and just throw them all into dark brown and olive dye with the odd cream pieces. I have acorn, dandelion seed in glass, raven and a dragon eye versions of twig chokers depending on my mood. Generally combat boots. I only started to call it Legendcore for myself because of the very goth villian obsessed with the innocent princess... I'm not a princess but the creatures, elves, sprites and brownies are the flipside. Thanks for this upload as you've clearly studied aesthetics analytically and it helps me understand what the heck of been trying to achieve. I'd love a little shop to promote it (it also runs in the family as my daughter loves frogs, toads, legless newts and my granddaughter loves her mostly glittery long dresses but left alone she loves worms, trees and snails and has been described by her school as the most glamorous tomboy, she is top of the class and spends her spare time on painting to the level above her school age) I am going to show them this. Thank you again.
This aesthetic is me to a T, I'm so glad to see it getting a wider exposure lately cause now there is some really good dark forest/woodland goth stuff out there
huh, interesting for you to mention Mythpunk in the "history" section of the aesthetic! on the literature side of it, I'm not sure it existed before Catherine M. Valente (author of Deathless and some books about Fairyland) came up with it on livejournal in the 2000s. The characteristics definitely fit tho (as far as I'm aware, because I just learned about this cool new aesthetic!)
I think maybe it did exist before then but just didn’t have a name then! It seems to be a pattern that aesthetics start developing before they have an “official” name
I definitely like a LOT of this stuff, though for the life of me I am having some serious difficulty finding exactly the kind of fingerless gloves I'm after :/

Thank you, I appreciate your thoughts and I'm so glad this one resonated with you!! And those accessories sound super cool!
I'm a goth and I got this dark floral dress that I wasn't sure how to style so this was perfect for that, thanks!
I really like this aesthetic!! Like you said it does remind me of goblincore, just more romantic
It really is similar to a romantic version of goblincore!

Very interesting !🥰
Omg this is me!
can you please do romantic gothic.
I’ll look into it!
For brands, I've got recommendations. But mostly for contemporary/current and not costumey small businesses.
I definitely like a LOT of this stuff, though for the life of me I am having some serious difficulty finding exactly the kind of fingerless gloves I'm after :/
what kind of fingerless gloves?
Can you do another video of aesthetics that arent a thing but should be please
Sure! That was a fun one to do :)
