@@ainhoabeitia I haven't read the book, but from what I've seen, those who have and have also watched the show seem impressed. Plus, even if you don't like it as an adaptation and you can separate it from the book, it has stunning visuals, amazing acting, great set design, and the chemistry between the three main characters, but especially Louis and Lestat, is off the charts. They are truly decadent.

Can someone tell me if it's worth to read the books this series is based on? I wasn't really satisfied with the first season (for many reasons, not saying it wasn't good 😉) so I'm afraid the books will give me a heartbreak... Please help me! 🙏🙈
It depends on what you liked about the show and why you were unsatisfied with it. The first book does have some big differences from the show, and isn't exactly a light read since it's told from Louis' point of view who is very melancholy. In the show they specify this is the 2nd interview, the first book outlines the first interview where Louis' is quite bitter towards Lestat. Just as a warning as well that this first season covers half of book 1, reading the whole book will spoil things to come in season 2.
Also some of the other books in the series are undoubtedly more popular amongst fans than Interview with the Vampire, but it needs to be noted that they focus more on Lestat than Louis. Really the Vampire Chronicles might as well be called "the adventures of Lestat" - it is not primarily a love story since Lestat pretty much has a new love interest in each book - this man falls in love very easily. But Louis always stays on his mind and that's who he ends up with in the end. But if you're reading the books primarily as a romance fan that would be less ideal. The showrunners on the other hand have stated their intention to really put the focus on Lestat's and Louis' relationship in the show and will adapt some other book material to fit that, and I think that's the correct choice for the show. But some of the books are just enjoyable as their own thing, romance aside!

@@minswagg5929 Yes Lestat and Louis end up together in the end in the book series. =) It's just that the series isn't primarily about romance, so if that's what someone primarily wants to read then it's difficult to recommend the books. So then watching the show - which will center and focus on Louis and Lestat's relationship more - makes more sense.

Er... well the story will have a happy ending... eventually... but the ending of this season is definitely a sad one. But this is based on a book series so we have a general idea of how the story will go (and the showrunners and cast have confirmed this). It's just a bumpy ride to get there, worth keeping in mind that they are definitely supposed to be a toxic couple to start with and they have to spend some time apart before being good together. So as long as you go into the show with that in mind... this is R-rated for a reason though and isn't a light-hearted and fluffy show. Personally I'd recommend it for the plot alone, it's a fantastic show!
Louis and Lestat are endgame in the vampire Chronicles. So on the show they are going to have a lot of sad moments, but in canon they are the final couple.
I don’t remember them being gay in the book
The only book where it's not explicit they are romantically involved is the first book - Interview with the Vampire - since this book is told from Louis' perspective and he omitted the story of his and Lestat's romance entirely. That's why in the show they have set it up that this is the 2nd interview, where Louis is now being more truthful. But even in Interview with the Vampire this relationship is still implied, even if Louis doesn't speak of them kissing or anything like that.
From the second half of the book, it was implied
Anne herself said that Louis and Lestat were the first same sex parents. As said in the 2nd half it is clear. A lot of things could not be said in 1973. And in The Vampire Lestat he says Louis was his lover. Which could mean a lot of things, we interpret as we like. Most of her vampires were gay or bi, the way they read, to me anyway.
As far as I remember, the book said that Louis was a Creole. However, at that time, the law on the purity of blood worked in Louisiana, so Louis only remotely had to have African or any other roots. In addition, children from the marriage of Europeans with Indians also belong to the Creole. Why can't Louis be half Indian? Why an African? This is an infringement of the rights of Indians! Why are there so many African Americans in cinema, but so few Asians, Indians and representatives of other nationalities. If Europe is so tolerant, then why is not everyone in it equal, but only those who are preferable?
Louis is from France in the book. His family moved to New Orleans when he was a child. He's part of the white bourgeoisie.
There has been a huge push by African Americans to be represented and have their stories told. Keep in mind before the 40s Chinese people were not allowed in America and native Americans did not have American citizenship. The only people recognized in America were white and black people. From then on other groups immigrated to America and never prioritized representation in media (obviously that isn’t a priority). African Americans worked on integrating themselves and their stories into everything and since at one point we represented the largest minority group with citizenship obviously we were the first and only ones to be offered to tell previously mentioned stories.
It’s not purposely done but until fairly recently America was essentially a white and black country.
The question should be directed to white directors and writers instead of getting mad at black people for filling a previously white role.
Oh my god why are you mad? It’s a tv show it’s not that serious. And anyways. Why is it a problem that there are a lot black people in tv? There are a lot of white people too, but, you guys never complain about that. It doesn’t have to be a competition, we can have different races in any film or show.

The 1994 IWTV never had any gay undertones, and for good reasons. This reboot has plenty of them, for this generation at least. Hell, I currently make HARRY POTTER fan-fiction with a custom character. She's a half-human half-vampire auror who's also bisexual.
I'm not sure what you mean by "and for good reasons". However, as far as their sexuality the 1994 movie version got it completely WRONG. This series followed and was based more off the book, in which the Author portrayed them as lovers. She also confirmed on more than one occasion that Louis and Lestat were lovers. If anyone changed anything it was the movie version. The same version that Anne said herself that she initially wasn't too fond of bc Hollywood straight-washed their love story.
