Wow wow wow. I’ve been checking out videos all over UA-cam for a definitive way to play this song right. Was about to admit defeat but somehow came across your video. I know nothing about you but I know you have absolutely smashed this one! If you do instructional videos at all please do one on this song. I’ve worked out about 2/3 rds of it from your vid but would love to know the rest. Great stuff and keep up the good work!
This song has that infectious Junkanoo rhythm, this song in particular is chock full of tasty licks....it takes tons of right hand loose groove to get it right, and many players dont have it, but youve got it down perfect
@@superdbband Yes!! This is exactly why I came here. I heard this song in the supermarket and looked it up, loved the guitar part that lead me here. Keep up the great work, brother. Loved the playing, could hear the guitar playing very well.
Wow ! ! :-) Some historical info: "Originally, Harry Wayne Casey and Richard Finch of KC & The Sunshine Band were the only two musicians on "Rock Your Baby." After they had the initial track down, they paid Jerome Smith $15 to put a guitar on it." The guitar sound must have been heard by Nile Rodgers :-)
Indeed, it seems like Jerome Smith is not widely known, but seriously, his rhythm guitar work on this song was outstanding! “He died on July 28, 2000, aged 47, when he was crushed by a bulldozer in Miami where he worked as a construction worker.” -Wikipedia
Yeah, Jerome was legendary in the Miami session circles for his funky rhythm playing. He’s all over the Sunshine band stuff. This song also inspired ABBA’s Dancing Queen.
Nailed it. Compliments. Jerome Smith, grossly underrated guitarist. Check out his work on Oceanliners’ Cutting Room. Must have been an influence to Nile Rodgers and Cory Wong.
Thanks! I shall check it out! Love his groove and magical way of playing. He's one of those who isn't the tightest but nevertheless has that wonder to his playing, if you know wat I mean.
HERE IS WHAT I HAVE SO FAR. DOES ANYBODY HAVE BETTER INSIGHTS? ( Especially about the ascending triad inversions (orwhatever is happening) during climactic two measures of Bb on George McCrae long falsetto Eb note ?) We're in 4/4 time, key of Eb. At 0:09 start with two measures on Ab, the IV chord. Then two measures on Eb, the I chord. Repeat this whole entire four measure pattern x 6. (George McCrae starts singing at 4th repetition of this IV to I pattern). At 0:56 Modulate keys ( I think?) by playing vi chord, C minor 7, two measures. F dom 7, two measures. Then two measures of Fmaj 6 voiced with ring finger holding Ab note on "D string" at the sixth fret, middle finger holding C note at 5th fret, pinkie holding root note F at sixth fret, and index holding Ab at 4th fret. The pinkie can be lifted in a pulloff note to remove the sound of a maj6 chord...pulling off down to Bb, where index finger would be back there holding the Bb and keeping the sound of a regular F major chord. *[sorry I cant decipher original poster's way of doing this embellishment? **1:06** - **1:09** ]* Then we have two measures of Bb, with some kind of triad inversions.... The chord leading has melody notes of "D", "Eb", "F" on top, Coda back to the top of the chart.
Thanks! It's a 1988 strat that originally had a floyd rose on it, but I decked it out with standard strat hardware and texas special pickups. Plus a ton of work on the SRV relic...
So, I have something I want to say: you apparently are one of the few on YT who understand that Jerome Smith was not a flashy lead player. He wanted to do whatever the song called for. His style and tone were unique at that time. Thanks for being true!
@@somejohndoe3004 Yes, he was very young when he began his career. He was, to me, an unsung guitar virtuoso. His career with KC and the Sunshine Band unfortunately got pigeonholed as a "disco" player. Lost way too young to a tragic accident. He will always be one of my faves!
I don't have it written down, but the main riff is Ab6 Ab, Eb Ab/Eb, then the middle is Cm, F7, Ab6, then the run up Fm, Gm, Ab, Abadd9. Hope that helps!
This is as close as it’s going to get on UA-cam. I’ll give you the credit for playing it as close as the real thing. Only problem is there’s no transcription or tabs to show what you’re doing.
Ry Haruto. Because there is no transcription or tabs is your problem. You should listen to the music several times, internalise it, watch his hands and you can even slow it right down and the pitch won’t alter. You will become a better player and musician rather than relying on tabs.
I never thought I would see anyone play this song the way you did it. This video is pure gold.
Thank you!

Simplement superbe. Finesse et son impecc.

Incredible job!
Nice job brother
This is incredible!!!!!
What a beautiful tone you extract from your guitar. (Must be an old Fender). Just like the great master Nidel Rogers.
Thanks! It's a 1988 Japanese Strat with Texas Special pickups.
Beatiful!!!! Pickups Texas.
Incredible job 👏 👏 👏
Damn that sounds great
awesome
Incroyable ! Merci !

Who is this guy, super D, I have been watching this video over and over!
This is JM [Jean-Michel] from Super db. Thanks for watching and glad you enjoyed!
always wanted to see how its play this is really orsum thank you
Lovely!
Fantastic. Only a well worn guitar could get that rhythm. I get the rhythm I have to work on the chords. Well done.
Fantastic work
Beautiful!!
KC's Sun Shine Band Guitar Player whom was the original player died in a Bull Dozer Accident in South Florida.
Great stuff, man. I have been trying to play this for a long time and almost had it, but you totally got it.
Hello guitarist Super DB. What an excellent performance. Wonderful. Thanks for your demo. I will try to do the same. Very good.
Excellent truly the best guitar of this song on UA-cam. Can you do a tutorial please❤
Outstanding !!
Thank you!
He played the SH!T out of that!!! To a TEE*
Fine bro 😊

Congrats, You basically nailed it. Sound, feel, rhythm and harmonies are excellent. There are others on YT who s:uck a lot.

Is this kind of rhythm playing to difficult to tab, I can't find a tab for this song anywhere?
Nice

Great feedback, thanks for mentioning the name of that briliant guitarist, I didn't know him. :)
Just read Jerome was 20 yo when he recorded Rock your baby 🤯

is that the original SRV guitar? sure looks like it.
Haha it's a copy I painted/abused from what was a black metallic 1988 japanese strat.
Nice! What effects do you use for such a sound? Little bit of compression, eq'ing (decrease lows) and slight reverb?
Precisely! Real challenge to get the woody yet very trebly tone of the original without it sounding harsh.
Superbe !! Do you have detailled chords somewhere other than Dm and so basic stuffs ? ;)
I don't have it written down, but the main riff is Ab6 Ab, Eb Ab/Eb, then the middle is Cm, F7, Ab6, then the run up Fm, Gm, Ab, Abadd9. Hope that helps!
@@superdbband Thank you, I will try that.
would you be able to add the chords for us beginners??? it would be very much appreciated!!!!

A tutorial, the cords explained......please?
Rhythum Nation
KC and Rick paid $15 for the guitar. That was the ENTIRE cost to produce this record.
Try that on a Les Paul. Wouldn't be nearly as tonically pleasing.
So true ! Great comment.
Amazing, really amazing bro!!!!
