Greetings master. We had to dig up a Tree Hibiscus in my backyard today. The tree is probably about 3-4 years old. Many roots were lost, but I still decided to try to make Bonsai. It was your video that inspired me to try growing my own Bonsai. I will be happy to contact you and send photos of this Tree Hibiscus, I hope for your help. Thank you❤

The trunk of tree hibiscus thickens and could have a lot of flowers. You may have a good one!

@@matefarkas5604 Yes. For now, we put him in a bucket of water. It has so few roots that I am afraid it will dry out as soon as we plant it in the soil.

Thumbs up to your response to the comment questioning if bonsai is contrary to nature. People who work with bonsai often have a more intimate connection to nature than others. Another possible reason for browning leaves of maple is level of sodium in the water supply. My private well has a higher than wanted sodium level, but a university outreach representative told me there are municipal water supplies with even higher sodium levels. If all else fails, try to learn the mineral levels in your water supply. I don't grow maples or azaleas.

Milton, I admit that I was critical of an earlier video when you made the comment that you should just throw the plant material that you were then working on, on top of your trash heap. You kindly apologized, and I have never since missed one of your videos. You have a wealth of knowledge to share.

Just bought two olive trees and two junipers bushes to make bonsai out of, I am leaving them in the 5 gallon pots until next spring so as to see how they grow. My other olive tree (7 years old) is doing well. Will repot and trim in fall. Love your videos they always give me a lot of inspiration and ideas to use. Thanks Milton, master of bonsai.

6:10 one thing i learned from peter chan (heron bonsai) that larches and maples can die back because the wire gets pretty cold in the winter. But it probably depends which plant you have and how low the temperatures get during the winter

im not trying to brag but, i like to have my bonsai trees growing slowly, not fast.
i may only be lazy. but i do think that, my bonsai trees become, better, like a stratavarius violine , with denser year rings , and more miniature looking growth, if i grow them slow.

Thank you, I learned a lot from this video as well.
I have a question for you.
Can Acer palmatum semi-hardwood cuttings (taken in midsummer) root? If yes/no, why?
A lot of plants, mostly broadleaf do well with semi hardwood, but I couldn't find anything about Acer palmatum.
Thank you for reading this, have a nice week!

can you talk about here, or maybe make a specific video about those bonsais with huge sharis? the ones that look like silk flowing in the wind. I've seen pictures of some really impressive works and I always wonder what was the "before" state to reach that result

Hi, I would like to thank you for answering our questions. I have been following for a few months, and I’m learning a lot about Bonsais. You have quite a few very old Bonsais with more than 30 and 40 years. I would like to know how you are able to water them for so many years continuously. I’m a beginner in Bonsais, but for me the more complicated thing about Bonsais is making sure that they will always be watered without interruption, so they won’t die on me for missing one day of watering them. How do you make ensure you don’t forget about this? Do you use an automatic watering system? Do you recommend this automatic watering systems? Thanks

    • @MiltonChang-ee6rq
      @MiltonChang-ee6rq 20 днів тому

Ihave never used automated timer. For sure I water them every day, sometims more than once a day...out of love.
Please stayed tuned. I devoted an entire Q&A to watering which should be aired next wednesday.

Question I have, I have tried several yamadori bonsai, 2 failed, 1 is doing okay
What can I do to improve my success rate with them?

    • @MiltonChang-ee6rq

Dig carefully, and do it in cool seasons...and keep them moist all the time.
      You'll get better.
      All common sense.

Do you not think the #1 cause of japanese maple leaves browing this time of yr would be Sun Scalding? I would think and see posted on bonsai boards this time of yr that is causing maple leaves to burn without being in enough shade. Most beginners aren't thinking about shade cloth or putting maples in afternoon shade. I would suggest that before you have people freaking out that they may have root rot or some fungal infections. They make sure there tree isn't frying in the hot sun all day. Fish and Kelp may be excellent fertilizers, but for people who live in rural areas it attract raccoons and could be very dangerous for bonsai. I wouldn't mind having you take a look at some of my trees and help me with designing and styling. That is my biggest weakness. I am getting a lot of trees from a club member who is 94 and wants me to take over his collection and keep them alive. i feel confident in nursing them back to health, but styling is my biggest weakness at 3 yrs in bonsai. he is selling them to me at a great price and it is alot of material but has been somewhat neglected. I like your videos Milton i just think you should consider the most common problems before causing major alarms.

Ha! Animals partially eat trees and plants all the time! How can doing the same thing be "against nature"? Many damaged trees would die if not revived as a bonsai. Many things that are real problems in the world to focus on instead. Please consider donating to a charity that feeds and provides meds for children if you have extra resources. Thank you!
