@ .. first off, not all hammer drills are battery operated. I have 3 that I use in my work that are 110Volts and they are perfect for light duty work which is what these guys do here. They are not breaking concrete, they are chipping away on compacted dirt with some rocks mixed in. The hammer drills are light weight and will not wear you out even when used for longer periods of time and they are strong enough to chip away the dirt in the cave.

You should do a before and after picture photo. Place the camera in one spot when you start and then when you leave put the camera in that spot so we could have a better idea of how much you did

Matt, tarps/sleds Put heavy duty tarps or plastic snow sleds on the ground and then jackhammer at a higher level and let the debris fall onto the tarp, use shovels to toss anything that missed the tarp/sled on top of the pile, then you can drag it out. May be easier than buckets in some spots!

Correct. When my grandfather passed away, I got a lot of his hand tools. He engraved his initials into some of the wrenches. His pre-WWII bench grinder still works. I was lucky to snag his Remington 341 before my cousins 😂
Yes they are solid but many lack the amps you want for more power For instances a 9 amp tool or 13 amp tool. I always buy tools with most amps. Like a 13 amp skilll saw compared to a 15 amp skilsaw Just those 2 amps make big difference
If you can get it back there look into getting a 185 cfm air compressor, they are mounted on small trailers, and a couple of 10 or 15 pound air spades, they are like small jack hammers, lighter, smaller, and can get in tighter places. Can get pointed, chisel, or shovel bits for them just like a jack hammers
Yea if you carry around a 3mw or better you dont need guns or anything if bears, lions, wolves come at you. Just aim for the eyes and as soon as you get even a touch in the eyes you wont see a damn thing while your eaten alive..

Use that thing to bust off some of the rock to make the opening bigger drill holes all in it with a concrete bit then use the jackhammer to bust it out

How about several section of PVC pipe. Couplers. Screws. Put the gopro on the end, and extend it section by section with a coupler and screws to really get a look back in there. Could make you want to dig more, or it could keep you from wasting hours digging just to see it goes nowhere.

Matt needs to organise a better extraction system [tracks and carriage, like old mines had] and widen the entrance ... good idea to bring someone with mining experience too...

Pro tip. Keep pressure on the bit. If the hammer hits it without the bit against something solid/hard, you'll eventually break the bit.

Also you never tried the icemachine scoop. They come in atleast three different sizes and perfect when using a five gallon bucket.
How about a conveyer belt to get the material out instead of mucking with buckets for the next upgrade?

Nice MailTank brand jackhammer, it will break soon but it is easy to fix. Mine has about 500 hours on it with only 1 change of brushes.
Please be careful about getting close to the cave wall with the jackhammer. The ceiling could start dropping large rocks or worse, collapse.
If you’re needing to bust out some of that rock to get a flatter area. Use the hammer drill and some feathering wedges .
