  • This video is from our September 2014 campaign to Ascension Island where we flew multirotor SUAS (drones) up to 9400 feet AMSL. Funded by NERC, this project involved the Universities of Bristol, Birmingham, Royal Holloway and the Bristol Robotics Laboratory, UK.
The purpose of the flights was to collect atmospheric samples from above the inversion layer in order to measure the methane levels. During the course of the two campaigns during 2014 and 2015 we flew more than one hundred sample missions over a period of four weeks.
Many thanks to all those involved: NERC; RAF & USAF; Police; Met Office and the people of Ascension.
Dr Tom Richardson, Department of Aerospace Engineering, University of Bristol.
