Fierce 5: Behind the Scenes ～Setagaya Public Theatre and Raphaëlle Boitel～【FR/EN/JP】

“Fierce 5” is a collaborative project of young circus artists from France and Japan, with the participating artists leading the next generation of contemporary circus in both countries. This video takes you to behind the scenes of the premier performance at Setagaya Public Theatre in October 2021, including the creating process and the interviews from the artists.
In this production, Cie L’Oublié(e) director Raphaëlle Boitel has selected Japanese circus performers, featuring a wide array of circus techniques including dance, aerial acrobatics, juggling, tightrope walking, and more. “Fierce 5” is based on Cie L’Oublié(e)’s “5es Hurlants” with a thematic exploration of a Japanese idiom “七転び八起き” about perseverance that can be literally translated as “fall down seven times, get up eight times.” This performance is a homage to the world of the circus and the people who live in it. In a world fraught with constant risk, people continually strive to go beyond their limits-- they may slip and fall, but they get right back up again, every single time.
“Fierce 5” was produced by the Japan Foundation for International Creations in Performing Arts 2021. This video focuses on behind the scenes of the creation process from artist interviews to performance which took place at Setagaya Public Theatre in October 2021.

現代サーカス界の次世代を担う若きサーカスアーティストたちによる日仏コラボレーション。2021年10月、世田谷パブリックシアターで実施された初演の舞台裏に迫る。
カンパニー・ルーブリエの代表作として世界中で上演されている『5es Hurlants』をベースに、同演出家であるラファエル・ボワテルと彼女によって選出された日本のサーカスアーティストたちが、ダンス、エアリアル、ジャグリング、綱渡りなどのテクニックを融合し、新たな『フィアース5』を生み出した。
日本のことわざ「七転び八起き」をテーマに、常にリスクと向き合い限界を超えていくサーカスと、そこに生きる人々をオマージュした本作。滑っても、落ちても、転んでも、何度も何度も立ち上がる5名のアーティストの魂の叫びを体感してください。
