Wow I'm having the same dilemma I want to paint the brown stone on my fireplace but getting some of the same remarks from comments. My siblings like the nature stone but it dates my new home. I love the look of whitewash and don't see why people are all in a tinsie about painting it lol it's not like your painting over a Picasso. Everyone doesn't like that dated brown or red look of stone and brick others are afraid to do something different at the end of the day it's not that serious.

Question (if you even review comments 3 years later), if I were to dilute the paint with water (as I've seen done in other YT videos) such as 30/70 or 40/60, brush and wipe, will that give me a less intense white look? This looks really good with what you did (without diluting the paint), but I'm thinking I want a bit more of a "natural" white look. Thank you.
Hey there! I'm not certain diluting the paint would work for the result your looking for, but there are some great videos on how to "white wash" brick and stone, which i think is more what you are looking for
It's not ruined. It was a very "bossy" and dated look. This couple wanted to refresh it with a timeless white. A new floor in timeless light to mid tone oak or light maple or LVP would look great. The hard finishes on the kitchen need an updating too. Or it will look disjointed. Tuscan brown is out. Check out Maria Killam for expert design and paint tips.
We used "Behr Masonry, Stucco, and Brick Paint -White". It's like 25 bucks for a gallon at Home Depot and it really worked well. We only needed about 1.5 coats
Oh my GOSH! You have a totally GORGEOUS STONE FIREPLACE - and you are going to paint it? People buy homes because they LOVE that type of look! What about painting the walls an earthy type color that goes with this fireplace stone... and updating that tile flooring where it blends better with the natural stones?
this right here is about the most underrated comment here on utoob. This is not to look down on the hard work that this couple has done. I wish younger people would have to watch the PBS documentary on the destruction of Penn station and development of the eyesore of Madison square garden.... good god a stupid fad will come along and ruin things that have natural beauty.....like your former fireplace which was called a "monstrosity" at the beginning of this video...
Yeah that’s a matter opinion. I have a 300 year old fireplace and no one has offered me any money for it. Granted my old fireplace looks like dirt this one started out alright but it looks better after the paint you can’t act like it doesn’t. You can always use Murat if if you change your mind right?
I'm painting mine in the next 24 hours. I will sell it to you at the bargain price of $500 before I paint it. You have 23 hours to take me up on what we can both agree is far too good of an offer to refuse. I eagerly await your payment.
For those who dislike the end result, we sold this house for 2x what we bought it for in just 2 years time. Sometimes trends change :)
