Yes those were pretty bad, but it puts the blast on her sister, it makes her sister look bad, Lilly throughout has presented an image of perfection to everyone, her sister basically humiliated her in front of everyone, and made everyone doubt her as a being sincere, whether the statement was true or not it would make people beg the question whether it in fact was said or not, who knows but now it puts her sister at the center of attention in the worst way possible.
