We should use the CSS3 transition property now in 2014. This code shows how it used to be done before CSS3 animations and transitions were standardized here in 2014. Use transition and animation to animate HTML elements on your pages from now on.

Great tutorial. Works great on the example file but when I tried to implement them into my social networking website, the expand works great but for some reason the retract keeps increasing the div elements height by 20 each loop. It has me really puzzled lol
Hi Adam, When you quickly click retract button immediately after clicking on expand. It will not work out. Animation doesn't work properly. It starts shaking up an down. Please let us know if you have any work around for this.

Great tutorial, but its confusing for noobs if you use the element name as "element" when the word element is also in the syntax of the code.
