  • Saint John (Saint Jean in French) is a seaport city of the Atlantic Ocean located on the Bay of Fundy in the province of New Brunswick, Canada. Saint John is the oldest incorporated city in Canada, established by royal charter on May 18, 1785, during the reign of King George III.The port is Canada's third largest port by tonnage with a cargo base that includes dry and liquid bulk, break bulk, containers, and cruise.[9] The city was the most populous in New Brunswick until the 2016 census, when it was overtaken by Moncton. It is currently the second-largest city in the province, with a population of 67,575 over an area of 315.96 km2

    Such an excellent video highlighting all the rich architecture of this city!!! Back when we had the great fire of Saint John in 1877, there was a telegram put out calling all architects and they came from Boston, California, Montreal and all over to help rebuild the city. That’s where we get them rich unique building designs!!!

    I drove through Saint John this past summer (2020) and I was blown away at the beauty and the development. People who talk bad about the city really don't appreciate the level of effort that went into preserving the heritage structures around the city. I understand there are nuances I'm not aware of, but the aesthetic of the city is gorgeous, and I can't wait to go back once my city is out of red phase (Moncton).

      why, I am curious .:-)) I talked to a couple people here on you tube, ,they moved to SJ from Abbotsford , BC few years ago and they said that pollution in SJ is much less than it is in BC, also that it is not an issue like used to be and air is very fresh..They are very happy in SJ..they said the city core has been going through revitalisation, and there are big new projects(summer 2021 and forth) to create more jobs and to reenergise Uptown core..what do you say about this, do you live in SJ?

    • @rps1689

      @@joang.6664 The air quality in Abbotsford is a tad better than Saint John in regards to AQI concentration, but is much more visible than it is in Saint John; Saint John has a stench to it and Abbotsford has little. Also cancer rates and chronic lung conditions are much higher in Saint John.

    • @rps1689
      @rps1689 3 роки тому

      The air in Saint John is an irritant and can be very dangerous to those that have sensitive lungs or chronic conditions. You can smell the city before you arrive to it on highway 7.

      @@rps1689 Hello, thank you for answering my comment, and sounds like what you pointed out is a serious concern for anyone who wants to visit or move to SJ.. I saw your other comments on You tube warning about same.. Myself i am from Vancouver, was looking at affordable options in the East Coast to travel to in next few years..
      That couple from Abbotsford have their own Yt channel where they show videos of SJ and its positive sides..they are very enthusiastic about it..
      So, if I may ask then, what would be a city in Canada that you would recommend by affordability, ecology and friendliness?

    • @rps1689
      @rps1689 3 роки тому +1

      @@joang.6664 Most welcome. It depends if you are a renter or someone that will be buying a home or even paying for a home without need for a mortgage.
      Proportion of renter household income spent of rent is much higher in Moncton, Saint John, and Frederciton that that of some equivalent size places in Ontario and Quebec.
      BC has a much much lower property tax and provincial income tax rate than that of NB plus a lower sales tax.Provincial income tax in NB is about twice the rate of BC's and the property taxes are about seven times more higher. So if you own a home paid for in BC, you are much better off for cost of living especially if you are retired. The home owners grant is much more generous than what NB has to offer and if you are a senior it's awesome; nothing NB could match closely.
      Quebec city is relatively affordable and is one of the best for air quality, eco-friendly transportation, green spaces, and the promotion of sustainability. The only cities in the Maritimes that would come somewhat close to this would be Halifax and Moncton, but affordability would be an issue.
      Have you ever considered Kelowna BC? Very clean and still falls below the cost of living compared to most big cities in Canada.

      @@micheldufenberg4745 There is a nuclear station 50 kilometres south west of the city , but New Brunswick is one of the most economically depressed regions in the country so good jobs are few and far between. Also the city has poor air quality due to an oil refinery and a pulp mill.
      Moncton is a cleaner and larger city, and its capital city is really a small town that lacks services.
      The best place to get jobs in the Nuclear sector would be in Ontario.

    I used to live there. Beware of the air pollution of the city's oil refinery and pulp mil. The city literally stinks. Nice folk, affordable housing, but pricey electricity especially during the very harsh long winters. Good luck finding a doctor let alone getting into a walk-in clinic.
    Too many politicians cozying up to the Irvings getting little done for the electorate.
    A bastion of compliant thought, which has stagnated the province to a great degree in regards to healthcare and economic freedoms.

    • @rps1689
      @rps1689 2 роки тому

      No. It is still one of the least sought after places for Canadians to live for many reasons; and one of the hardest to retain youth and youth in the work place. That being said, young families are leaving their families to move here for "affordable" housing. I haven't met any of them enamoured by the city; just a few realtors and their friends.
      Keep in mind NB only had a net migration of about half of one percent last year.

      Moncton or Fredericton would be much better for air quality and quality of life, though Fredericton only has two walk-in clinics and one of them only has one doctor. The province's healthcare system is broken. The Province's attempt at recruiting doctors has been a dismal failure over the last two years.
